Some of you may remember some of the stories I did for MSNBC about Jewel at Rockfest, Lilith Fair, etc. Well, the new magazine I'm editing has just released its music issue, and one of the pieces is my essay previewing "Spirit." http://www.impressionmag.com/changer.html Hope ya like it, along with the rest of the magazine. I don't want to offend anybody these are just some thoughts that I would like to share. Nobody has to go and vote for Jewel but I'm sure that the person who posted that thought that the people on the Jewel list would be voting for Jewel, I mean we get like 40 e-mails a day on her so you would think that she's one of your favorite artists but I'm sure that there are a few cases that aren't like that. Another thing that I would like to point out is that there isn't or at least shouldn't be an "in-crowd" on the list. Some people post more than others but thats their choice. Anybody can have an angel name or not it's intirley up to you! Personally I think they are neat! Peace to everybody! ~morning star~ PS--If any BC angels have heard "hands" on the radio please e-mail me! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Oct 1998 03:47:52 -0700 From: Vicky Subject: Re: Nobody HAS to vote!!!!! No one should be blamed or flamed for urging people to vote for Jewel. This is a Jewel list after all. Everyone on this list must love or at least appreciate Jewel and her music, if not, why got on the list in the first place? The point is, there's nothing wrong for a Jewel fan to post messages and ask people to vote for Jewel. No one has to go and really do so if they don't want to, but don't say it's wrong to vote for Jewel or wanting others to do so..it's not fair. also, i didn't know there was an "in-crowd." i thought everybody was the same, just Jewel fans who love Jewel. Anyway, just my opinion. - -Vicky the taiwanese angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Oct 1998 07:13:17 -0700 From: "Marcus Ngo" Subject: Jewel News: JC: A CD with Jewel Hi all Eda's! I know many of you have already heard it obviously, but for those who haven't, you'll be happy to know that many stations should have their promo copies of the single this weekend. So requests for it should be a lot easier beginning early next week. Hi, Angels, i'm kinda bummed out...=( i just called the radio station in my city and requested "Hands". i've NEVER heard it here! The DJ said he knew what song i was talking about but couldn't play it on the radio because it wasn't on the charts yet...well, DUH! That's why i'm calling--to support Jewel and help it hit high on the charts! (Yes, i'm a bit frustrated...) So as of now, i still haven't heard "Hands"..i'm feeling so deprived... =( i don't know what else to do about that radio station...i think since i live in between Dayton and Indianapolis, i'll switch radio stations! karyn idiosyncratic angel /\o/\ "/ \" - "You can be Henry Miller, and i'll be Anais Nin. I'm very grateful to all of you for trying to describe the song as much as possible and it's so nice to see that all of you really make such an effort to keep everyone as updated as possible. I wish I could contribute in a way, but being here in Germany makes me the one who needs to be updated, so I never know anything ahead of time. Let's hope that Hands makes it real big! I'd love to hear it, but I can only imagine that it's as brilliant as Jewel's previous stuff. Alright...so skip ahead if you don't want to read another stupid post about hearing "Hands." So my boyfriend in CA called and played it for me on the phone. I was really excited, but I could barely hear it b/c of 1) about 2,000 miles, 2) static, 3) a telephone line. I went to Cilla's house (prism14960@aol.com) to update her on my freaky dream of the week, and I told her I heard Hands. She went off on her usual tangent about how Jewel never comes to N.O., and it's not gonna play here...yadda yadda yadda. Well, we decided to listen to the radio...no sign of Hands. So we went downstairs to eat...turned on the radion down there...no sign of Hands. While jumbling around for a few minutes, my friend Laura, suddenly made this one of a kind, odd noise, and said, "The radio guy said Jewel's new song in a couple of minutes!" So we race upstairs, put a tape in a tape player...and wait through the Backstreet Boys, Shania Twain, and that stupid f*cking All Saints song (sorry if I offend) till it finally came on, and I wound up clutched to Cilla's inner thigh. (lol...uh, yea =)) So we sat in silence, then afterwards, I walked behind Cilla and hugged her from behind for a few mintes saying "We heard Hands together!" (Only few of you will understand why this was such a sweet moment for us...and you're more than welcome to ask if I know you and haven't told you...I'll give you the short version.) So...yea, it was fun =) Then we taped it for me =) Love, Jamie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Oct 1998 20:40:57, -0500 From: HCCZ70D@prodigy.com ( SARAH MERRITT) Subject: I heard "Hands" it is so nice I was coming home from my tennis game today (and ;( we lost) but then on the bus on the way home, the radio was on and I heard all these stupid songs come on, then I heard a familiar voice, and I listened very closely because the music was not very loud. I thought it was Jewel so I yelled "turn it up!" and the bus driver did and I ran up to the front seat to listen and it was "Hands"! It is so nice, I think I like it, it sounds sort of celtic, jewel's vocal inflection. but I like it, I'm going to request it from that station whenever I get the chance, now that I know they've got it. ;) how nice. sarah ____ "My heart has four empty rooms three wait for lightning one waits for you." - - Jewel ******************************************************* visit sarah's realm of sordid optimism at http://www.geocities. com/SouthBeach/Cove/6457 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Oct 1998 21:00:51 -0500 (CDT) From: Willis Reynolds Subject: Hands at SIUC/ANWA I too have heard hands twice since Friday on CILFM in Carbondale, IL. I haven't seen anyone mention it being played in such a small market like Carbondale. I forget the frequency, but if anyone realy wants to know they can e-mail me. I'm not sure I understand why the single is being released this way. Won't this hurts its' rating on the charts? Since only a few stations can play it, Hands won't get as much air time which equals a lower position on the charts. Or, if the early air play doensn't "officialy" count yet then many stations will have lost enthusiasim for it by the official release date. Doesn't Jewel also run the risk of getting less air time on resentful radio stations who haven't got it yet? I just don't see how this could help Jewel in the long run. Also, I had stopped reading ANWA when I got to the poems about breaking up. I was having trouble with my girlfriend, and I geuss I couldn't handle those poems just them. I recently went back to it because I did just break up with my girlfriend, and those poems have a much bigger effect on me now. There are some great poems in that book, and it has realy helped me through this hard time. I'm glad she wrote it, and I'm glad I bought it. I hope no one minds me sharing that breifly.
