Yeah, I briefly met him in the summer of 1995 (if it's the same actor/Christopher Douglas). He used to be in One Life To Live (an American soap opera, for you overseas EDAs), and I met him at a Soap Opera function thingy I went to with a few friends in New York City. (Oddly enough, it was the same week I first heard Jewel sing, when I saw Clueless on the same trip to NYC) I clearly remember the gals were going absolutely ga-ga over this guy......he was one of them long haired soap opera hunks :-) I found this doing a web search....this is the dude http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/1423/chris.html Remember though, it's just a rumor. I want to learn how to play any songs by Jewel, Matchbox20, Alanis Morresette, or(maybe) Tori Amos, although most of her music is piano. Is there a Tori Amos list? If so, please e-mail me. I just finished reading my mail and someone said that they know some people who are not on the list because they like Jewel, rather they are here because of the friends they have met. I was just wondering if the people this statement applys to could e-mail me. I want to get an idea of how many people fit into this category. Thanks for reading this. I get the feeling that some of you are worried that it will not live up to your, or society as a whole, expectations. People seem to be saying way too much negative things about Jewel and you don't even know what the album will sound like. We shouldn't base judgements on assumptions. Or is it that you are afraid that Jewel will not be the way you want her to be, it is obvious that she will change, everyone changes and Jewel is no different. So why don't people stop critisizing based on assumptions and start being more compassionate. I hope I didn't offend anyone, I just wanted to let people know how I feel. Take it easy and be cool Troy The confused Angel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 11:58:05 -0700 From: Rhino Subject: This is reality... Hi peeps, Ok, I don't usually play into these arguments, but I had to voice my opinion here. First off, why do I love Jewel? I don't LOVE Jewel per se, I only know what I've seen on TV and in concert. Do I like Jewel for being an inspiration and giving of herself to the music world? YES! Do I think she's beautiful and intelligent? YES! Do I like the title of her new album, "Hands"? NO! Is that ok? YES! See what I'm getting at? We can all be disappointed with Jewel at one time or another. After all, she is a fellow human, and as fallible as the rest of us, right? YES! Will I go out and buy her new CD? YOU BET! To me, reality is being able to recognize the things that bother us, to help us focus on the things that we like about her. I'm very excited about the new album, the tracks, etc. But I think "Hands" is a very cheesy title for what appears to be a great compilation of songs! "Spirit" wasn't all that great, but a heck of a lot better than "Hands". It's just my opinion, and I know many of you share it, and some don't. But if we were all the same this world would be a VERY boring place!! And this list would be very boring if we all just threw rose petals down for Jewel and didn't express any true emotion!! Just my 2 cents... I hope you all realize that and don't take it to be a flaming... I like Hands, they are very useful for many things, including typing this message (I guess I could do it with my tongue, but it would take alot longer, my keyboard probably wouldn't taste very good, and it isn't good for the electronics.). Okay, seriously, I personally like the title "Hands". I mean, Jewel has often said that "hands manifest thought", how actions are meaningful and all. Maybe this album manifests some of her musical thought. (since she delayed this second album for so long, partly because she didn't think her Bearsvulle recordings showed where she was at as an artist now). besides, your "hands" are "pieces of you", so..... (sorry, I just noticed that while typing and thought I'd share it) Anyways, Have a great day, Everyday!!! The other part is the hands, which reflects and symbolizes (to me again...) what we do, and the way it affects the world, what we construct and build and create not for us but for everyone else, good or bad (but preferably good...) So, for me, the title of the new album just becomed a different expression of the same self, one that is about not just ourselves (like our souls) but about others (like caressing and, sorry, killing...) For me the title could be superficial, or commercial, or bohemian. But it is "meaningful and general enough to evoke great, beautiful things". Have you ever realized how important are hands for us to participate and let our impront on this world? To me, hands is great, so it would be spirit. victor SDA ps: one thing that i felt from the title(s) (the record and some of the songs) was that she has changed. and i like her changing. i feel her very close, and it is like feeling someone dearly beloved growing along, maturing, getting older. For change is the way life has to tell us that we're living it.... ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #503 ***************************
