There's been a lot more than 6 or 8 posts which I find rude and I'm not that sensitive. Yes, the responses have been awesome, but the negative one's tend to outway the positive one's even if it is 95-5. Negative posts tend to get more of a reaction than positive one's. But after a while every post that was title something about Bob Marley I didn't read. It get's old, especially for the newbies coming into all of this. Like I said before when I first joined I was shocked at some of the posts. It didn't make sense why people would spend their time writing posts talking bad about Jewel. Yet again I'm all for people's opinions, that's why I'm here to talk to other EDA's and hear their opinions. But when people insult Jewel and her decisions I find that distracting, like she doesn't know what she's doing or something. People get almost obsessive. People know if they post something everyone is going to read it. Stating your opinion great, but discouraging people in advance without hearing a finished product I find rude! Basically my point was this is a Jewel Fan Club of sorts, fans of Jewel sign up for this in the hopes to get positive and encouraging news about the artist that we all love "Jewel". Adia _________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 01:09:03 -0400 From: David Beery Subject: JC: Jewel at Ray's Coffee House and NJC: San Jose.. Hello, Back when Jewel attended the Interlochen Fine Arts Academy she played at a coffee house in Traverse City, MI. once during her last days in the area. While at Interlochen Jewel posed for several arts classes, a drawing and a sculpture class I believe. While posing she would often compose music, sing and practice playing her guitar. Remember she had just began to play guitar at Interlochen. Any way Jewel invited the arts instructor(I do not have her name handy at the moment..) to listen to her play at Rays. The instructor was quoted as saying that the music was so good and emotional that she began to cry during the performance. Not to long ago I finally had a chance to talk to someone at Ray's Coffee House. I spoke with a man who had heard of Jewel playing there but did not see her. I guess he was not working at Ray's at the time. He did mention several interesting things, mainly who I should talk to, but the thing that really stood out to me was this: The owner of Rays's Coffee House is not one who likes the teen scene in Traverse City, so Ray's is primarily an adult coffee house. It is also a quite place where live music is rare and far between. Because of these facts he said that wither Jewel had made an impression on the owner that she lit Jewel play unlike may of the other people who have asked, or one of the people that were working that day allowed her to play. His thought is that one of the workers(I think is name is Mike Calahan.. a local musician) allowed her to play. Unfortunately, the owner normally works the early morning shift when I am asleep so I have never been able to follow up on things. One of these nights I will catch Mike during a brake when one of his bands plays at the Union Street Station and talk to him. Any way, I found that to be interesting.. Now for some NJC: Are there any EDA's around the San Jose, CA. Area? I will be there for a week of training at Hybrid next week. I will have a couple nights free and I would like to meet some more EDA's after having so much fun a BV'98. Speaking of which.. Next year.. please come to BV'99!! If you have come, come again.. if you have not come, please do! You will have a great time. drum@traverse.net or ab109@tcnet.org between 9/26/98 - 10/3/98 David Beery - --- There is something refreshingly ironic about people lying on the beach contracting skin cancer, in an attempt to acquire a purely illusory appearance of good health while germ-laden medical waste washes up on the sand around them. --Unknown ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Sep 1998 09:49:04 -0400 From: wdb@obl.bidmc.harvard.edu (William D. Well, the Scrappy Bitches are at it again, so I thought I'd share the remaining dates of their current tour with you, and encourage you to catch the shows if you can. I'm sure you'll find it a rewarding experience. For those of you who do make it to any of these shows, please say hello to Suzie (Oh Susanna) for me. She's a remarkable singer, an extraordinarily intelligent woman, and very approachable, as many EDA's have discovered. Hope a few more of you get to discover her during this tour. NB! The tour dates that Suzie gave me have a few contradictions with another list of the tour dates I found elsewhere, so you might want to check your local listings before heading to any of the shows. I have to agree with Adia about EDA's critisizing Jewel. People do have the right to state their opinions, but it's almost like some of us are trying to find things that are wrong with Jewel's songs or song/album titles! Does it really matter what the album is going to be called anyway? That's not going to affect the quality of the songs in any way, so why should we worry about it? We are supposed to support Jewel. "Jewel has rebounded from the end of her relationship with French-Canadian model Michel Francouer. People magazine reports that she's currently dating actor Christopher Douglas. The proof? The mag says the duo recently warmed up for a workout at a Santa Monica gym by engaging in some serious lip action.
