Here is a prime opportunity for me to try and look smarter than everyone else... and educate! Okay, the way commercial radio works is like this - record labels release certain selections from their stables as "singles". Most singles only ever make it into the hands of radio or club DJs, but if the labels think they can make a lot of money on it, some singles will make it into general availability. Commercial radio stations, for the most part, ONLY play singles. It's not the decision of the DJ, on most stations, most of the time. Programming directors set playlists of the hottest singles in order to boost listeners (which will, in turn, boost advertising revenues and that's why it's called commercial radio). Atlantic (the label whose talons are sunk into our Jewel) has released three real singles of Jewel's - WWSYS, YWMFM and Foolish Games. Morning Song is out there, but for some reason it's only a ghost single... it doesn't get airplay and it doesn't have a video (oh yeah, any song that has a video has been released as a single). I'm sorry if that sounded patronizing or insulted anyone's intelligence, but I guess there's no reason that your average music fan should know any of this, so I thought I'd share what I knew. I hope it made sense. Any questions, email me. PS - albums are always, always, always released on Tuesdays. If someone tells you an album is due to come out on a date that ISN'T a Tuesday, they are wrong. Just another little industry tidbit. ^_^ | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Sep 1998 08:52:50 -0400 (EDT) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Jewel mentioned in Party of Five On Wed, 23 Sep 1998 NiKoS12@aol.com wrote: > "Jewel would be nothing without TV," says his girlfriend. > "I like her music," he replies. > "Oh, come on, you only like her because of her big boobs." > "You were meant for me is a classic. Its brilliant, its gets quickly to the crux of how people who aren't EDAs perceive Jewel. :-) People who aren't particular fans of her music (like we are) seem to see her has just those pair of... ...*sigh* poor people, but it does really get to the heart of the matter. Ok, people, especially the guys, how many times have you _had_ _that_ conversation. Don't get me wrong, I find Jewel very attractive, but it has little to do with how she looks, mainly is because she seems to be a bookworm and a poetry nerd. :-P James. ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Sep 1998 11:48:44 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-Jewel's album title changed & more info Hi all, The title of Jewel's new album has been changed. It is now called "Hands" instead of "Spirit" as originally reported. The single of the title track will be released in several formats in various countries & will include extra tracks, possibly some of them from live recordings. We are currently going through possibilities & I'll let you know when I know (so please refrain from asking in the meantime). The single is now scheduled to hit US radio stations on October 26th, so thats a great time to begin calling your local stations requesting the song. The video for "Hands" will begin shooting one week from today on October 1st. Also BiBi has all new photos from Jewel's recent studio sessions up on the official website now. Enjoy them at: http://www.jeweljk.com/ Then click on the "scrapbook" link for these new photos. Enjoy!
