They won the battle of the bands and got signed onto Capitol Records. They recently went into the studio and got a song onto the "There's Something About Mary" sound track called "Everything Shines." (GOTTA see that movie; it's hilarious!) In any case, the band is SOOO good. :) They've got feeling, energy, and enthusiasm backing 'em up. You simply gotta see 'em. They're touring around now that they finished recording their first album after being signed (I have their two previous ones). The e-mail I got from the rep said to call to confirm the following information before you show up. Check 'em out! Gerrit TOUR DATES: Thu, 9/24 - PLYMOUTH, NH - The Bier Haus Fri, 9/25 - WOODSTOCK, NY - Joyous Lake Sat, 9/26 - NORTHAMPTON, MA - Pearl Street Night Club Wed, 9/30 - BUFFALO, NY - Tralfamadore Cafe Thu, 10/1 - ROCHESTER, NY - Milestones Fri, 10/2 - POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Cactus Club Sat, 10/3 - MANCHESTER, NH - Saint Anselm's College Sun, 10/4 - OXFORD, NY - The Night Eagle Cafe Sat, 10/10 - BOSTON, MA - The Karma Club (at Bill's Bar) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 22:50:38 -0700 From: Lora Browne Subject: Re: NJC: Re: "Songs of Freedom", Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" That's because it is his song, he wrote it, he wrote quite a lot of beautiful meaningful things. In fact, I think it's quite pathetic Jewel would take a verse of his song, and use it as a song title, better be careful not to get sued, I find she has done this sort of things before, using Bob Dylan's lyrics in her songs, and him confrontin her later on and saying 'she forgot the song'. I myself, am a big fan of Bob Marley, and I don't think music was about record sales to him. I don't know what sort of thing Jewel is trying to gain, obviously, she used this title for a reason. But Marley has never really been about *Pop Culture* which she is in. My two cents, flame me. Also the new Amanda Marshall which will be released sometime in that period probably could be a threat. Looking at the sales figures of the last album we shouldn't be worried about the sales of Spirit :-)) It will be a success even if it takes some years..... ;-P Greetings, Marcel (Angel from The Netherlands) <<< 56 days to go and still counting >>> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 00:48:26 -0700 From: "Jeremy Mull" Subject: Re: Jewel's Competition >From: Scott Evans >Looks like Jewel's CD release is up against some >pretty tough competition: > >Nov 17th - Jewel - Spirit > - Black Crowes - * > - the Offspring - * > - Boyzone - * > - Ginuwine - * > - Mariah Carey - Ones > - Whiteny Houston - * (2 disc collection) > - "Prince of Egypt" - Sndtrk > - Ice Cube - War and Peace, Vol.1 > - Metallica - Untitled > - Seal - Human Being > > A couple more names to add to the list: Garth Brooks-double CD Spice Girls Bruce Springsteen- Box Set John Lennon- Box Set Jewel could sell 1 million copies the first week and not be #1. Or one artist might only sell 500 thousand copies and that would be enough for the 1 spot because the sales will be diluted. Of course Jewel doesn't have to be in the top 10,000 for me to enjoy her music or feel like she's worth while, but honestly when an artist I follow and admire does well I feel it fills my cup o' pride just tad. I don't know maybe I care too much about how other's view my choices. It's all about timing and promoting as far as album sales are concerned. It'll be interesting to see how everything turns out. Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could briefly describe this cd single to me. I know there is a radio edit and a reggae mix along with the album version on the cd, but what do these two "different" versions actually sound like? Is the radio edit any different from the album version? It's one of the only pictures that i have seen him smile in. I should have read the article now that i think about it, but i also compiled a stack of pictures with the article on the back... (we're not really supposed to tear up the magazines, but the teacher wasn't lookin) #2: I got One Left Shoe yesterday at a used cd store for $2... there's something on the cover that says "For Promotional use Only. No Sale Allowed. Must Be Returned On Demand of Copyright Owner." Is this illegal for me to have? I also have it on a Bjork CD that i bought used... hmmm now that i think about it I probably shouldn't have posted that... #3: A few weeks ago I told someone that I'd send them a tape with the song Emily on it... and well, I lost her address. So If you're out there, please e-mail me privately with all that information ;) #4: Before I went to Italy I sent some tapes to trade for some live Ani Difranco tapes, and mom read me the response letter (rec'd via snail mail) on the phone, but i haven't seen it since i've been in town.... SO if YOU'RE out there, please let me know what i need to do to get the tapes. Well that's all the stuff I have to say tonight, Goodnight and God Bless. Katie, the Smurfing Angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 19:58:44 PDT From: "Greg White" Subject: New Album/Songwriting/Angel Food Hi there! First off, I just want to say that I am Thrilled about the new album and I think it sounds fantastic. And guess what? November 17th marks me as an EDA for exactly two years! What a awesome coincidence huh? I mean I had to take breaks for vacation, and changed addresses a few times, but otherwise it has been two years. And I think it's great Jewel decided to put a whole bunch of new stuff on her album, but that leads me to another topic.... I have been here for (almost) two years, and belive it or not, I haven't yet gotten my hands on any angelfood. Partly because I kept expecting this new album to come out, with what, many EDA's, though to be some of the best angelfood I could get anyways. So I would really love a chance to hear songs I've heard about like "Sometimes it be that way" "Nikos" and "Carnivore". If any EDA out there would be willing to dub me some stuff I'd REALLY appreciate it! It may be easier if it was a Canadian EDA to avoid some Customs troubles and S+H pains. But really I'll take what I can get! Of course I'll pay for tapes, shipping etc. One more thing, I've been playing guitar for quite a while now, at least, I know the basics. And I would really like to start dabbling in some song writing. I've got the lyric thing down pat, but I could really use some guidance on the music thing [it is kinda important! ;)] I don't know much about chord progression or all the nitty gritty song writing methods, so any help will do! Thanks you guys!
