I read in Billboard a while back that Atlantic Records were planning to release Jewel's second album simultaneously worldwide. Apparently the UK release date is 16th November a day before the US release. This is according to Virgin Megastore. No other record shops seem to have a release date yet. There will be some singles -- but, like Foolish Games and You Were Meant For Me, she'll have to record what we've heard to make it playable. - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 23:06:55 -0400 (EDT) From: Jay Christoph Johnson Subject: "Songs of Freedom", Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", and a strange conincidence To: jewel@smoe.org Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 21:07:36 -0500 (CDT) Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk sheesh, I gotta start shortening my subjects. ;Op A wierd thing happened to me yesterday. First of all, MrBB posted about the new album (that was cool, but not wierd) and he mentioned that Jewel's "Songs of Freedom" was partly influenced by Bob Marley's "Redemption Song". I didn't really think anything of it at the time, given that I had never heard of it, and not really much of Mr. Marley (I know, I've lived a musically sheltered life....). Then, that night, I went to a concert at the local coffeeshop (well, it is run by the college, so it isn't a true coffeeshop in my opinion), and Billy McLaughlin (a really talented guitarist from Minnesota, but that still isn't the wierd part). The wierd part was, he only played one cover tune that night, and guess what it was? Yep, "Redemption Song". I know, no big deal to you guys, and not really any Jewel content, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence. and hey, have a great day, everyday!!! So here it goes. I was listening to "Amen" today and I just remembered that last year when I was at a wedding, after the wedding I went to was over I was helping to put some things away and some people were coming to the church for the next wedding and all of the sudden I heard a familiar song, it was "Amen." I think they were going to use it in the next wedding. Anyway my point is that I find it kind of interesting that they would play that song for a wedding or if it wasn't for the wedding, at the church for that matter. It just doesn't seem like a song you would hear at a church. Anyway if anyone has any comments then feel free to write me privatley. Sorry it was so darn long. Have a good day everyone.
