I've been on this list for quite a long time but have never really posted and never contributed. I know it's selfish but now I actually have something of interest. I came across a web site with a vote for the top 10 albums of the 1990's and to no surprise Jewel was on an option. They have a list of about 25 albums or you can write in votes. So no more feeling guilty about voting for Jewel 10,000 times and neglecting Sheryl Crow (assuming you like Sheryl Crow). Currently Jewel is in 12th place but I'm sure if we all vote once we can move her up the list. Oh I bet you're wondering about the URL huh? Here it is. http://www.mrshowbiz.com (you can only vote once) Since this is my first post I'll let you know I'm 19 and live in the bay area and I think all of you are awesome. I love the fact that there are thousands of people who have the same passion and interest for Jewel. Hope you all have a good day. Enjoy, Jeremy p.s. if somebody already mentioned this survey I apologize, I swear I'm not trying to steal your credit. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Aug 1998 03:18:49 -0700 From: s0meone@juno.com (Danielle C Wilson) Subject: angelfood website For everyone who's been asking lately, the angelfood bank website is at www.angelfoodbank.org. The "trendy" topic is singers who act in movies. The article reads: Screen Debut: She'll play a girl who captures the hearts of two men in Universal's Civil War drama _Ride With the Devil_ (due in April). How she got the part: She was pitched by a CAA. "I read cold, and it went terribly," she says of her audition. Director Ang Lee hired her anyway. Why acting?: Maybe she was meant for this, too. And the ANWA mention: It's currently #10 on the charts, a two place drop from last week. :( Is it just me, or is Jewel always in Entertainment Weekly? That's two years in a row- on the same album! =) pretty cool. She was also voted for "who you pretend to be when you sing into your hairbrush." There's a small cute pic of her at the bottom. =) Also, I wanted to say that I was looking at the "Making Faces" book again (this time at the Virgin Megastore) with the *Beautiful* picture of Jewel in it... and next to the book I saw the calendar of it. Jewel is featured in May. It's a '97 calendar, but they're still selling it. The book was always too expensive for me, but the calendar is a little cheaper, and I thought people might like to know that. It is a Gorgeous pic you can't find anywhere else. And while I was there, I checked out the new book "Women Solo Artists in Their Own Words" (or something like that, sorry) and I recommend to anyone to at least read the Jewel chapter. It's very nice. =) Ok, don't forget to watch Steve Poltz' VH1 special tomorrow at 11 p.m. EST. =) Peace, Priscilla. II Ok it seems that with the small amount of published albums and lack of new songs from Jewel, discussion has turned more towards the gatherings. Wish we had more of these though. But I would love to here some of your interpretations of different songs by Jewel. To start it off I thought we could start with the song Amen off the POY album, mainly because for those who have just gotten on, not as many have the stacks of angelfood that most have. Now what I would like to see is discussion, and not a flame war. Just say how you interpret the meaning of the song to be. My interpretation This is a cry against the injustice of most major beliefs and how they feel about punishment. Looking at the words "Eyes stare up, but something is in the way", could that be that our thoughts block what our heart is supposed to see?? Another line, "Such injustice, as children we are told; That from God we fell", is that a jibe about us being fallen, as in sinners before we are born?? Interesting thoughts to think about. Thanks for continuing the discussion in a polite manner. II >Another line, "Such injustice, as children we are told; >That from God we fell", is that a jibe about us being fallen, as in >sinners before we are born?? No, I don't believe it is... since I've heard Jewel say several times that she thinks we're all good by nature, it's what we're brought up with and around that makes people bad. I'm not going to wager a guess at what it really means, but I just thought I'd offer up something that I've heard Jewel say that's directly related to your interpretation. - -Greg Distributed Computing, Qwest/LCI - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------- "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star." "You're mother's child/but night lays you down/hair aflame, wild look in your eyes/naked belly to the ground" is saying "You have a mother, so if you died it would be bad, but still you lie on the floor, ready to kill yourself in a rage".
