To: Jewel Mailing List Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk G'day again..... According to 'Angus & Robertson' bookstores, Jewel's 'A Night Without Armor' will be released in early September. They even told me that it would be September 1st but somehow I'm inclined not to believe them! There is a mini article on Jewel in the September edition of Australian 'Rolling Stone' Magazine. It has probably been reprinted from American Rolling Stone and is titled something like 'Jewel, in her own words'. It is very small (about ~300 words?). There is also a section on Jewel in the August edition of 'Guitar One' magazine which also features other female artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin, Alannis Morrisette, etc. Jewel is on the cover (with other artists) and it is titled something like 'Divas: The Women in Rock' (not sure really...). Anyway, it is a special feature on women in rock, their musical style, how they have 'made it', etc. There is also a small review of Steve Poltz's album 'One Left Shoe' in the current edition of 'Accoustic Guitar World'. (not sure which month since the magazine does not show a month or anything). That's all for now! Dave - the Aussie Angel (I think someone has taken my angel name! Or maybe I took theirs!! Just a quick note, because I'm tired and I have to get some much-needed sleep... Tonight was the official Joy Eden Harrison / Lisa Sanders LRT stop for Greenfield IN. A complete review would take hours to write, but suffice to say that it was a rousing success. EDAs from Iowa, Kansas, and all over Indiana showed up to welcome the dynamic duo to the show. Joy and Lisa arrived about 8 PM (they were late because they had to finish writing a song) and after a bit of introduction and friendly chat with the attendees, launched into their sets. This was, unfortunately, my first exposure to Lisa's songwriting -- by which I mean, I wish I had seen her perform before! She brought a unique perspective with her family-oriented, soulful and sincere lyrics, drawing enthusiastic applause for her great vocals. She traded off with Joy twice during the evening, though backing Joy up on vocals a couple of times for a well-rounded set. Joy was everything I had expected and more. I was indeed fortunate to have heard her CD _Angel Town_ before tonight, and she performed several tunes from that album with great verve. Her strong, bluesy voice interwoven with some great 12-bar chord progressions evoked torch singers of the '30s with spooky realism; and she surprised us with a great piece of performance art and some gritty country lyrics as well. She even performed a tour chronology song written with Lisa, which incorporated names and places from along the tour -- including us! The ladies hung around for a while afterward, sharing stories and chatting with our friends, until at last they had to get some rest for their drive tomorrow. Many hugs were exchanged, along with best wishes, and they headed off for the next leg of their tour. I thanked all my friends for showing up (some at the last minute) and finally got upstairs to finish correspondence and get some rest. I encourage all EDAs who have a chance, to catch these ladies at a LRT stop near you (even if that means driving 400 miles like some dedicated fanatics ) and enjoy their music and ready friendship. I'm off to Liz's place in Toledo for another show tomorrow -- see you there? - -- | Greg Dunn | And all you touch and all you see | | gregdunn@indy.net | Is all your life will ever be. | | GregDunn@aol.com | Pink Floyd | | http://www.indy.net/~gregdunn/ | | ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 09:27:41 -0400 From: lklecanda@juno.com (Lisa A Klecanda) Subject: NJC: EDA poem book update Hi, EDAs! Just wanted to let you know that I got an estimate on the book. It depends on how many pages there are, & how many books will be produced. How many people are on this list? I need an acurate number. I was told that the book can easily be sold for $25 each, but I will try to bring the price down. So I need ALL OF YOU to get involved & send in your poems! I've only gotten 3 submissions with 2 poems each! So come on, guys! Start writing! I know it takes a little work to write a poem, so please get them to me ASAP!! As soon as I have a final price, I'll let you know. Then you can reserve a copy. I prefer that you reserve a copy, so that I know how many copies will be made. If you have any questions, please email me. Happy writing! It was IDENTICAL to Imani Coppola's Legend Of A Cowgirl! Then I remembered - Imani uses a lot of sample loops... so I checked and huh... Legend Of A Cowgirl is based on a sample loop of "Sunshine Superman" as performed by Donovan. I didn't realize it was a cover. Wow, that story's not nearly as interesting as I thought it would be... ^_^ | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 08:37:52 PDT From: "Steve Garner" Subject: Morning Song hi everyone.... I'd just like to express an opinion on something. A while back, during a bunch of posts about Morning Song, someone mentioned that the line about "Henry Miller and Anais Nin" was their favourite line in the whole song. This came as quite a surprise to me, because IMHO, I've always thought it was the weakest line in the song! I'm not saying that it's a bad line, but I didn't think it seemed to "fit in" with the rest of the words. Here, I'll explain my reasoning: the lyics in the song are all very simple, straight-forward descriptions of being in love and having a relationship. Jewel uses very common, everday phrases to get the message across, which is one of the things I liked most about the song. But then suddenly, she throws in what, to me, was a very obscure reference that seemed to interrupt the flow of the words. Here she is, talking about "getting back in bed", and "not answering the door" and whatnot, and then suddenly there's some unusual reference thrown in about 2 people which I have no idea who they are! All I'm saying here is that, IMHO, that particular line doesn't seem to "belong" with the "style" of the rest of the lyrics. But I still love Jewel's writing and admire her creativity. Now if only Winter Song would be included on the new album, I would be in heaven.... Steve (s_garner@hotmail.com) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 14:38:32 EDT From: JaZzToPaZ@aol.com.m Subject: Compacted topics I've got a lot of things to say. So, read or delete. First of all, I got angelfood about a month ago from the Angelfood Bank. It was very delicious! I'd like to thank all the volunteers for helping out and to James Judd for founding this incredible delicacy. Anyone who does not have any angelfood, this is a great way to start, through the angelfood bank. I lost the link, but this is definitely the way to go. Now then, on the thing about Sheryl Crow and Jewel on the cover of Teen magazine...I love Sheryl Crow and wouldn't mind seeing her on the cover. It would be perfect timing for her if it coincided with the release of her new album on September 29. And I've actually had a craving for Sheryl Crow lately, so if anyone knows how to get me onto her list, or has any way of getting me some (Crowfood?), i would definitely be interested. And now, about the quilt, I don't think a lot of people understand that Jewel would much rather us do something for common folk, than her. She has everything she could possibly ever need. She knows how committed her fans are. We need to start caring about the world around us more, than some plateau that we can hardly touch. Anyway, I also have a great idea...Let's make Jewel into our God. We could all be Jewelites, or Kilchies. I bet that would make her feel more appreciated. A lot of people focus on her for everything already. She would just make a wonderful god, don't you think? Then we wouldn't have to worry about if she believes in God or not. She would be God. We wouldn't have to worry about if she's a Christian or not...i propose that anyone who wants to make her our new god, to get together and then we can start something on the projects list, so it can become a religion...we can get tax breaks and cool stuff like that! I am the almighty milkman oh, and yes, I proclaim to be a Christian, so don't e-mail me asking what religion I really am or anything like that Everyone have a beaming day :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 14:57:32 EDT From: IKKI1214@aol.com Subject: Angelfood Hi!!
