["Hoochie Koochie" Subject: RE: EDA Projects - Controversial Thought i would share my little opinion with everyone. I'm one of those people that believe in the world, the needy, and those that are alone. Jewel was once one of those people, but now she has millions of fans world wide, she is a multi-millionaire and she loves us, as we love her. I'm not saying that money solves problems (though in some cases it does). I'm also one that believes in the children of the world. I hate to see them suffering without their beaming smiles on their faces. I'm sure alot of other people feel the same way. To see a child smile, is like seeing the sun peek out on a cloudy day. With the quilt idea, i think it's a great idea, but i agree with Mr. BB, and others, when they say that the children and Jewel would probably appreciate it more if we were to make it for someone who needs it. Needs it for a smile, or warmth. It would make Jewel smile just as much if we were to give it some one needy rather than her. Making Jewel something, is not for show (or for her to notice us), it's for love, and as she said once, she would prefer if we were to take the gifts that we want to give her and give it to someone else.. Just my opinion... Besides, if we're going to bond together to make something beautiful, perhaps those who see the world as an ugly place would appreciate it more. >> I think that we should show how much jewel has inspired us buy doing things for others. making quilts is a good idea but why not make quitls for he less fortunate, the elderly in nursing homes, and sick kids. I also have an idea, wich has been inspired by the quilt idea Actually a few ideas... 1) do a teddy bear drive for kids in hospital. What we do is collect beasr, and sew little angels on the chest of the bears so the kids will remember who they are from. I am 16 and a brittle diabetic, and it gets lonely in the hospital sometimes, not to mention scary. The bears would make the kids alot more comfortable. (this is my fav. idea. 2) take up a collestion of food, blankets, clothing. And donat them to various homless shelters, and nursing homes (the blanksts to the nursing homes. As I am sure they have food). I collect teddy bears and I am willing to give up most of my collection for the first Idea, and If every EDA donated atleast one bear we'd have a lot of bears to give out. I think the quilt is a great idea, I have even voulenteered to help. I think that Jewel would truly appreciate knowing how she's inspired people, and what she means to them. Jewel did write, "I am told/ I am adored by miilions/ But no one calls." But Jewel has also said she wants us to take what we would give to her and give it to someone who needs it more. That is why I think we should, simoltaneously to the quilt project work, do a charity project. This doesn't have to be an argument, both goals are within our grasp. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 19:25:23 +0200 From: "Tom Hall JewelJK Tom Hall" Subject: SJC - Quilt, ANWA, Steve Poltz, etc... Hi I just got back from a short holiday, and I see all this stuff about making a quilt for Jewel... It is a very good idea... I will probably make a square, but I dunno yet - 1. I don't know how to make a square for a quilt, 2. I live in Europe so postage money will be a lot and it might not get there in time, 3. I'm not sure if Jewel really needs a quilt, y'know? I'm sure she'd love to get this gift, as a memento from her fans and everything, but does anyone else agree that we should try to help the needy? This kinda thing happens so much these days... For instance I was eating in a restaurant in London recently and Kavana, this English pop star, came in and ate there too, at the table next to ours... As you can guess, there were quite a few teenage girls inside and outside the place wanting his autograph and stuff. As he was about to pay the bill, the manager guy came up to him and said the meal was free, cuz he's famous. As we left, on the sidewalk there was a beggar asking for money. I just thought 'doesn't he deserve a free meal more than Kavana?' and I think you'll all agree that I'm right. So you see, Jewel really doesn't need us to make her a quilt to show her we love her - sure it would be nice for her, but she doesn't need it - she already knows how much we want to thank her for her music and what she's done for us... So why don't we just give money to charity, or make a quilt for a homeless person? Don't they deserve it more? I'm not saying "don't make a quilt for Jewel", just "why not make 2 quilts? One for Jewel, and one for someone who needs it more?" On a happier note, I got ANWA yesterday, sent to me in the post from a friend in the States. It has touched me deep inside and I haven't really stopped reading it since I got it. The CD of Jewel reading the poems is also really good, she seems to have a lot of passion for her poems, y'know? I'd say my favorite poem was "Sunbathing", It is so honest and true to life... I also got Steve Poltz's album "One Left Shoe" today. The only thing I'd heard him play before was that version of "One Hand In My Pocket" from the Drunk Like Me page (that is cool by the way... "I'm coke but i'm Pepsi..." hehe...) and this album shocked me as it was really really nice. I thought it was gonna be more rocky, like the Rugburns, but it is a nice, relaxed album... I love it! My fav. song is Impala... Doo-wap, doo-wap =) Well, I'm sure you all get the idea yeh? Hope you're all well =) Tom :) ****************************************** jeweljk@csi.com SaVaGe GaRdEn'S uNiVeRsE www.angelfire.com/pa/universe19/ ****************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 15:05:51 PDT From: "Gerry Lipnowski" Subject: Re: Mr. BB and Jewel-rerecordings sessions Among the many wise things the all-seeing and all-powerful MrBB wrote was: Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk > And finally, just to see if ya read this far, many EDA Vets will >be most happy to know that Jewel has rerecorded FOUR, yep four >of those long lost "Bearsville 96 Sessions" songs. We all know how Jewel recorded songs for the Frtiz Creek Store or something like that, and it was supposed to be the next album to come out. Well why couldn't Jewel make her new album be a Double Cd? One entitled Fritz Creek Store (or whatever the name was) and the other one be the one she is working on. I think that would go over very well if people say it in stores. I would definitely buy it. I am not sure if this is why everyone is wondering about Jewel's religion or not. On Oprah Jewel did say God made all of this happen. Now if she doesn't believe in God she had no right to say that. I do believe that she does believe in God, I can tell this because of song lyrics, poetry, and the way she carries her self. For instance on Sometimes It Be That Way she sings "I am sorry that Jesus died for my sins, and I swear to God it won't happen again" also many of her songs are about Angels. Like they said in Angels in the outfield Arent't angels and God on the same team? Also Jewel shows tremendous respect to everyone. The other day you were talking about how Conan was making fun of her. I am not sticking up for her but, have you ever seen Jewel do that to anyone? Of course not she has too much respect to do that. Whether it comes from her upbringing or not I do not know. I do know it would be hard to keep all that respect when you lived in a van. It's not like I care if people hate me or not. Yes, you can do whatever you want. Like it was said in an earlier post, no one can stop you from making a quilt for Jewel. No one can tell you what to do. Freedom, man. It's groovy. However, freedom is easily abused. Example: Free Speech. Those of us living in the U.S., we all possess the freedom of speech. Which, in and of itself, is a /very/ cool thing. However, how many times has that freedom been abused? Used to hurt someone's feelings? And just as any ol' schmoe has the right to say what's on his mind, any ol' schmoe has the right to make Jewel a quilt ... or send her a banana .. or sing 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' backwards in her honor. No one is stopping you. No one is telling you what to do. BUT (you had to know a 'but' was coming) let's look at one thing here. Jewel has specifically said that she doesn't want to be sent stuff. I mean, lets face it, she must get TONS of stuff. She'll look at the quilt (if it even gets to her), think it's cool and then it'll be lost and forgotten amongst /all/ the other hella cool things people send her. It's inevitable. This isn't like getting a few gifts on one's birthday. The pure volume of things she must recieve makes it practically impossible to enjoy all the items. But someone else could enjoy it. The children's ward in a hospital, a homeless shelter, a retirement home... Last Christmas, I gave my dad a guitar. He had been talking for years how he wanted one and I splurged. Got him a real nice one. The look on his face, the excitement in his manner ... IT WAS SUCH A RUSH! I liked the presents that I got but my christmas was made that moment I gave that guitar to him. Don't you want to give Jewel that joy? Let her 'give' through us instead of recieve? Anyway, I think I've babbled on far too long. See ya! Jewel does this all the time, saying she was born and raised in Alaska when she wasn't born there. Jewel probably will make up her religion during an interview because in reality she probably doesn't have one. Maybe one or >two people can't turn this around, but the Everyday Angels as a whole can. Well, what the he**, I might as well share this story. As list owner, I get emails from the list server notifying me of each new subscriber, and also when people unsubscribe. On Monday night, I noticed the name of a new subscriber from AOL, and she had an AOL name that clearly showed she was a Sheryl Crow fan. (I know it was a she as we chatted on AOL a day later) Knowing that Sheryl was quite swiftly moving up the rankings in the Teen People Cover vote tabulations, I figured she was here to spy....to see what we were up to with this vote thing. Well....."I gotta check this out" I thought.....I then logged on to AOL to look up her AOL profile and as it turns out she RUNS the Sheryl Crow list !!! :-O So, I did what any protective list owner in this situation would do....I joined the Sheryl Crow list to spy back! :-) (bet ya didn't know that this list owner biz is cut-throat at times, did ya? Huh? ;-) Not too many posts came in at first, so I checked some of their back digests to see what kind of posts were being sent to their list about the Teen People vote. Sure enough, there were many daily posts pushing the vote and/or updating (plus some complaints about so many posts......which by the way, is why you've only been seeing at most 3 posts a day on THIS list about this particular vote....many more come in each day, but so many are pretty much repetitive information, thus they weren't sent on....in case some of you were wondering) YIkes!.....Sheryl was still moving up swiftly, from #15 to #2 in 48 hours....they had to be voting like crazy. I decided to check to see exactly how many people they had on their list. You folks sitting down? Go ahead, sit down.....I'll wait. They have 130 total people on their loose mail and digest lists. (at least one other from OUR list....hi Adrian D!! :-) WE have well over 1,500 people on the Jewel loose mail and digest lists. We have over 12 times as many people on our list, yet Jewel is losing to Sheryl by almost 3 percentage points as I speak....er, I mean as I type :-( Lisa, the owner of the Sheryl list sure likes to jokingly point out that fact whenever we chat now. ;-) Come on folks!! I know you can do it! I know ya got it in ya! :-) I also know many of you don't really care if Jewel gets this cover (nor do I actually, to be honest), but this is now list vs. list ;-) It ain't Jewel vs Sheryl, it's Jewel@smoe vs SCFanClub@____ !!! Us vs. them. We outnumber them 12 to 1....this race shooooould be over!! ;-) So, what the heck.....why not each of you fire up Mr. Browser and vote 5 to 10 times and we can clinch this thing by sunrise :-) All ya gotta do is go here: http://www.pathfinder.com/teenpeople/gdml3/cover2.html vote 5 to 10 times, and this baby is over. No mas. End of story :-) I mean, if the 130 of them can outvote the 1500+ of us....well sheesh.....that's like Tanzania beating the USA Dream Team in basketball. :-O It just canna happen folks.....ya gots ta fight back!! :-) ;-) Go EDAs Go! Push 'em back, push 'em back, waaaaaaaay back! Get out there and vote! Do it for good ol' Jewel@smoe.org :-) Mike (who will now take off his lovely cheerleading outfit :::::: "hmm, I look good in a skirt" :::::: ;-) P.S. No, I'm not drinking....just in a zany mood tonight. P.P.S. The gal from the Sheryl list wasn't here to spy at all actually...we chatted a lot Tuesday night, and she's on the Jewel-news list now. P.P.P.S. I don't know about you folks, but I for one was *shocked* that there's only 130 people on what apparently is the only Sheryl Crow mailing list. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #458 ***************************
