A big fundraiser which could be done in a central location, possible California or Texas (that's for me :) ). I think this would really boost the EDA, EDAF, and Jewel's reps. What's everyone think? That's just my thoughts... That's like being inspired by Jesus to go to church and pray to Jesus and thank him for the inspiration. I don't think Jewel's goal is to inspire people to give her tokens, I think she wants people to direct their efforts towards more... helpful... pursuits. Jewel doesn't need a quilt. Why not give someone else something they need? Some people don't have FOOD. That being said... I'd be surprised if Jewel resented the quilt or saw it as anything as dear... still, I bet she'd be more impressed with an act of kindness than an act of reverence. I am just wondering why it is so important to know Jewel's religious beliefs. She has said she doesn't like organized religion, right? So isn't that enough>? So what if on Oprah she "seemed" like a Christian (whatever that means anyway). It is her beliefs. If it coinsides with any organized religion it doesn't mean she has been converted. I have no idea what teh big fuss is about her religion. Would any of you like her less if she was Jewish or Muslim or Catholic or even Athiest? If you would than I find that sad. If you only like an artist because of what they represent and not mostly on their musical and poetic talents than why bother listening to music at all. That's just my opion that's all. I'm not sure how I feel about this whole quilt ordeal. I think the quilt is a great idea, I have even voulenteered to help. I think that Jewel would truly appreciate knowing how she's inspired people, and what she means to them. Jewel did write, "I am told/ I am adored by miilions/ But no one calls." But Jewel has also said she wants us to take what we would give to her and give it to someone who needs it more. That is why I think we should, simoltaneously to the quilt project work, do a charity project. This doesn't have to be an argument, both goals are within our grasp. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 06:30:00 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Quilt project planning to be moved to the EDA-project list (re-post) This is just a re-post of Monday night's announcement about the re-opening of the EDA-project@smoe.org list to handle the *planning and details* of the quilt project. One minor clarification, all posts to jewel@smoe.org about the details and planning of this quilt project will held until tonight and *then posted on the eda-project list.* Posts discussing the philosophies and thoughts etc of giving Jewel presents vs "doing things for others" will be sent on to the regular Jewel list, as they have been. The original post: Hi folks :-) Mike, your trusty list manager here :-) As with past EDA Projects, I am asking ALL folks who are interested in this quilt project to join the eda-project@smoe.org list now. Whenever projects discussed on the Jewel list reach a realistic phase (i.e. looks like it WILL happen), talk and planning of the project is moved to the eda-project list, so folks can more freely discuss the ideas, while not gumming up the regular Jewel list for the 1,700+ subscribers who won't partake in the project. So, I am asking ALL EDAs who are interested in this quilt project to join up now, as beginning from this moment on, all posts to Jewel@smoe.org on this topic will be held until 6:00pm Eastern USA time tonight/Wednesday, which is when I will turn on the eda-project list (but you CAN subscribe NOW, don't wait :-) By not turning it on until then, it will give most folks time enough to join up before the discussion starts. Since I am going to hold posts about the quilt project plans until then, I kindly ask that you don't send any until that time (you might as well hold off 'til then, ya know....as we are not in a "we gotta rush" situation here, we've got plenty of time to plan and do this right :-) The eda-project list will NOT be moderated. Just post away, but please remain on-topic and please play nice :-) Also, there is a digest version of the eda-project list too. I suggest that all folks on eda-project who are going to be *leaders* in this quilt project also subscribe to the digest version and save them for archival reasons...it'll be an easy way for you to save the posts and refer to them as necessary. To subscribe to the eda-project@smoe list, send the two line command: subscribe eda-project end to majordomo@smoe.org To join the digest version, send the two line command: subscribe eda-project-digest end to majordomo@smoe.org To join BOTH lists, send the three line command subscribe eda-project subscribe eda-project-digest end to majordomo@smoe.org To post to that list (once it's turned on), send the post to eda-project@smoe.org If you have ANY questions, feel free to write me. Also, please read the "welcome to eda-project" email you will get when you sign up. There's some addition info in that email that's not covered here (it's after the stuff on "how to unsubscribe") Mike :-) - - * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * If you can't find the answer on the page have any list related * questions, please feel free to email me at ducksoup@spectra.net * or you can IM me on either of the AOL names below: * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 05:23:49 PDT From: "Jessica Tilley" Subject: angelfood, quilts, EDAs in Newfoundland? What a great response to my post about the EDA poetry book! Let's do it!! I'm sure you all know about the project discussion list that is being set up. Maybe we could discuss it there. If we do this, we all need to pitch in. I will definately need help. I will need someone to collect the poems & get them on paper, & someone who can put it all together in book form-- preferably paperback or some kind of soft cover to keep the cost down. This project will no doubt take at least a couple of months, so let's get started! I will allow up to two poems per person. This is so the book won't be too thick! So if anyone has the proper computer equipment to do this, please email me! I'll then choose someone for the above mentioned tasks. I'll gladly edit the poems to make sure that they're ok with spelling & all that suff. Then I'll send the poems to the person who will put them on paper. Since I have a Juno account, I can't send files. So please send the poems as a regular email message. Ok, everyone-- get those wheels turning & start writing those poems!! There was a picture on the back of the CD of the band, all guys I believe. There are named after jewels as in precious gems or stones. On the front of the cover are lots of jewels (precious gems). Maybe those songs that Karan is refering to are from that group and not Jewel Kilcher. Michael Edward Carmona, Jr. <> It seems hard to believe, knowing how many people subscribe to this, that ANY list has as many people as we do (Of course I'm wrong, that's just my loving biased opinion. ;) ) But you know, if everybody who gets this message votes just once or twice, that's already about 2,000 votes for Jewel. Maybe one or two people can't turn this around, but the Everyday Angels as a whole can. It's kinda cool that when we do stuff as a group we can really make an impact. In case you're already confused, the day previous to the MTV Fanatic taping, Jewel did an interview for CBS Sunday Morning which has not yet aired. This will air Sunday, September 6th at 9:00am EST on CBS. Also, here's other Jewel-related TV coming up: Tuesday, September 1st- Jewel's close friend & occasional collaborator Steve Poltz will be featured in his own half hour VH1 TV special called "An Evening With Steve Poltz". This was recently filmed at one of his gigs at Schuba's in Chicago & will air at 11:00PM EST on VH1. Sunday, September 6th- Jewel's 7/6/98 Interview with "CBS Sunday Morning" This program airs from 9:00AM (EST) to 10:30am on CBS. Tuesday, September 8th-Jewel recorded an interview for a Seventeen Magazine TV Special called "Seventeen's Superstars". This will air on the Warner Brothers Network at 9:00PM EST. Also, I've seen both books people have been asking about at Borders now, so I assume both are now in stock & easily available from any bookstore in the USA. Here's the info on those: "Solo: Women Singer Songwriters In Their Own Words" This features a chapter written by Jewel. This book is compiled by Marc Woodworth and Emma Hanson and is published by Delta Publishers. I think price is $16.95 US dollars (pre any discounts) & is available from any bookstore. If you are outside the US or would like to order it locally, the ISBN # is 0385324073. "Woe, To Live On" Written by Daniel Woodrell. The movie "Ride With The Devil" is based on this novel. I read it 6 months ago & enjoyed it very much. The movie, featuring Jewel as the female lead, Sue Lee Shelly, will likely be in theaters March of 99. The book is published by Henry Holt & Co. For those trying to track down a copy, the ISBN # is 0805002839. And finally, just to see if ya read this far, many EDA Vets will be most happy to know that Jewel has rerecorded FOUR, yep four of those long lost "Bearsville 96 Sessions" songs. (maybe she's been listening.....) These four are up for consideration on the album she is currently working on: 1. Fat Boy (known to many as "Fragile Flame" -a solo acoustic version) 2. Innocence Maintained 3. Absence Of Fear 4. The Face Of Love <-Yeeeha! Thats about it for today. Hop on the Living Room Tour & play nice with the EDA projects! :-) MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #457 ***************************
