Well, it's been a great year on this list, and the list has been through many ups and downs. Mike-keep doing a great job keeping us all under control! Thanks for the updates Mr BB. I hope you guys have more great projects and can stay through some more bad times, since I'm sure they'll be those days. I also hope you all know how lucky you are to have a list like this with connections to Jewel. This is a great list, with a lot of clout. I am off to school on Friday so I have to remove myself from the list. Good bye everyone! I can understand how some people think that our efforts could be put to better use than to make Jewel a quilt- but I still think the quilt is an awesome idea. It's not just a plain quilt, it actually means something. Doesn't Jewel say she wants to insprire people? Well this quilt will just symbolize to her how she has inspired us. That's just my thoughts... - -Jen ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 16:54:29 EDT From: owner-jewel@smoe.org Subject: Some more random things... Hello, everyone... I just want to ask you all... Is Angelfood only videos, or is it in cassette/etc format also? Because I have a crappy VCR.... (For those of you who care, I only own POY... I'm saving up for ANWA now. Heh... I'm a HUGE Jewel fan though, I've heard tons of her unreleased stuff through RA.) And if so, well... Could someone dub some fo' me? I'm desperate. Another thing, and this is completely irrelevant (other than having to do with Jewel), but I heard Sunshine Superman on the radio yesterday, and was wondering about that. (Treacherous tape though, stopped recoding in the middle of the song, just to be mean I guess... heheh) Third...my two cents on this whole selfishness/selflessness thing. I think that, as there are people who are completely selfless, there are also the opposite. The EDA's have for the most part proven themselves to be selfless... Although, to a certain extent, aren't we all selfish sometimes? As much as we don't like to admit it. Whoa... Long post. Most of my posts are short things.... Well I must dash now. If you feel like commenting on what I had to say, or complaining, or just wanna talk to me... Feel free. Love ya guys... All that I know abis the AngelBook, and as far as I know, that project is already done and over with, and in the process of becoming a book already.(LastDance0@aol.com?). Also, the Quilt, I was gone for awhile in England visiting some friends (Before School Starts :-( ), and when I got back, half of my mail was deleted, and so were some of the Jewel-Digests. Can somebody please tell me what is going on with this quilt thing, and if there is another book, or are we talking about the same book? About the quilt, I think that we should do one of two things: 1) Everyone participating should make 2 squares... one to donate to the children at that hospital(or any children in any hospital for that matter) and one for Jewel. Of course, they would probably be different... the one to Jewel would be to thank her for her music, inspiration, etc. and the one to the children wouldn't. I think that it would be cool to send Jewel something, but also send the children something. OR 2) Everyone participating makes 1 square... for the children at the hospital. If it is decided that we will only make one quilt, the children need it way more than Jewel do, and no doubt they would love it! Well, those are just my 2 cents. - -Jenny The Angel With Silver Lining http://www.expage.com/page/tinylovespaces ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 18:21:55 EDT From: STAC5984@aol.com Subject: Re: Quilt idea I agree. BB was making is jewel would rather us make a quilt for mabye the childrens hospital or better yet a homeless shelter or an individual homeless person. jewel doesn't have to worry about finding somewhere to sleep at night anymore she doesn't need a quilt to keep warm in but thousands of people in the us do. just remember this is not mearly my suggestion but it is what jewel asked for on her b-day back in may. But very concerned about this quilt project. Why is everyone arguing? After reading all of the posts from just one day, it seems like the purpose has been lost and I think that is where the selfishness is. I think this quilt project is a beautiful idea, I would love to help, but I don't understand why everyone is being accused of everything. I find it hard for Jewel fans, after being so overwhelmingly inspired by her music, to be called selfish. I may be way out of line here, but like I said I'm new, but I care, please someone send me some help. But please don't be mad at my post, I'm new. Instead of making gifts to Jewel, do it for people who it would mean the world to. I know you guys want to give something to Jewel since she's inspired you and the list has a way to get it to her, but don't misuse that advantage of ours. Besides, if we're going to bond together to make something beautiful, perhaps those who see the world as an ugly place would appreciate it more. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 20:13:25 EDT From: Juelktchai@aol.com Subject: hey...about the quilt thingy Ok you guys, I don't know about it being selfish that I want to give back to someone who has been such an inspiration to me. From what I understand, this quilt project was created to show Jewel how much she really means to us. If you guys want to do a separate quilt than we can, but I personally feel that we should defidently do this one. It would mean so much to me to know that Jewel is getting to see how much her fans truly adore her, so I hope we still do the quilt. As with past EDA Projects, I am asking ALL folks who are interested in this quilt project to join the eda-project@smoe.org list now. Whenever projects discussed on the Jewel list reach a realistic phase (i.e. looks like it WILL happen), talk and planning of the project is moved to the eda-project list, so folks can more freely discuss the ideas, while not gumming up the regular Jewel list for the 1,700+ subscribers who won't partake in the project. So, I am asking ALL EDAs who are interested in this quilt project to join up now, as beginning from this moment on, all posts to Jewel@smoe.org on this topic will be held until 6:00pm Eastern USA time *Wednesday*, which is when I will turn on the eda-project list (but you CAN subscribe NOW, don't wait :-) By not turning it on until then, it will give most folks time enough to join up before the discussion starts. Since I am going to hold posts about the quilt project until then, I kindly ask that you don't send any until that time (you might as well hold off 'til then, ya know....as we are not in a "we gotta rush" situation here, we've got plenty of time to plan and do this right :-) The eda-project list will NOT be moderated. Just post away, but please remain on-topic and please play nice :-) Also, there is a digest version of the eda-project list too. I suggest that all folks on eda-project who are going to be *leaders* in this quilt project also subscribe to the digest version and save them for archival reasons...it'll be an easy way for you to save the posts and refer to them as necessary. To subscribe to the eda-project@smoe list, send the two line command: subscribe eda-project end to majordomo@smoe.org To join the digest version, send the two line command: subscribe eda-project-digest end to majordomo@smoe.org To join BOTH lists, send the three line command subscribe eda-project subscribe eda-project-digest end to majordomo@smoe.org To post to that list (once it's turned on), send the post to eda-project@smoe.org If you have ANY questions, feel free to write me. Also, please read the "welcome to eda-project" email you will get when you sign up. There's some addition info in that email that's not covered here (it's after the stuff on "how to unsubscribe") Mike :-) - - * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * If you can't find the answer on the page have any list related * questions, please feel free to email me at ducksoup@spectra.net * or you can IM me on either of the AOL names below: * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 18:46:02 -0500 (EST) From: Susan Elizabeth Skolak Subject: Jewel's Religion & Bic Runga If I remember correctly, Jewel commented one time about her religious beliefs on a tv show that airs in Canada. She said something to the effect that organized religion isn't for her. That it is too strict. For what its worth, I agree with her. I don't think it is necessary for someone to belong to a certain denomination of a specific religion for them to believe in god/God or angels or any higher being or existance. I have had experiences with a few different religions (Including the Mormon religion, like Jewel) and in my opinion if one commits oneself to a specific religion there is a lot of extra baggage that comes along with just a belief inaa god. So whether Jewel is Christain or not I don't think it really matters. She, like everyone else, is free to believe whatever she wants and it doesn't mean that she has to belong to the religion that closest resembles her opinions. On that note! I just wanted to throw in that I just bought the cd by Bic Runga and it is Absolutly Fabulous!!! I recommend it to anyone who likes Jewel. I also want to thank whoever posted about Bic Runga--So, Thank you!!! There is a list already started for this express purpose, called eda-thoughts, hosted at smoe.org, as well. (Note: I'm not an official list anything, so whatever I say here isn't necessarily accurate, true, or sanctioned by the powers-that-be. :) I'm not sure how big the list is, but there's a pretty good-sized group of people on it. I think all you have to do to join is send an email to majordomo@smoe.org and in the body of the email, write subscribe eda-thoughts or subscribe eda-thoughts-digest ... follow the instructions you receive by email at that point, and you should be all set. Mike Connell may be able to add a little bit more to this, in terms of information... Mike?
