About BMG it's a pretty big company, I'm suprised you haven't heard of them. They specialise in compilation CDs. Aussie EDAS You should be able to personally order ANWA from Angus & Reobertson across the big brown pancake. They do it at Import Cost, depending on which store you're dealing with. (makes you wonder how much profit they skim off normal operations). You should be able to get it imported if you know the ISBN but beware, I think our import laws say something about it. Sorry to do this but Paging Shannon Lambert, could you please contact me, I lost you email addy. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 12:46:45 EDT From: GolfPnkGir@aol.com Subject: Re: Parental Advisory In a message dated 8/23/98 1:10:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time, owner-jewel- digest@smoe.org writes: << So is it just me or am I the only person here who hasn't heard of BMG? So I was wondering, does anyone here wanna write to this company? If it had a website, I would say go there, but. . . After all, Jewel does not need or deserve a 'Parental Advisery' >> I beg to differ. Now, Jewel's album is VERY tame compared to some others, but some of her poetry can be classified as a bit risque (Leaving Las Vegas, for one), and "Pieces of You" contains a few remarks (faggot, Jew) that despite she's trying to relay a message to the listeners, could very well be taken the wrong way. My sister bought POY for a friend's birthday (she was turning 10), and her mom made her return it because of the poems and "Pieces of You." This album is probably appropriate for ages 11 and up. I don't think anyone younger could really understand any of her songs anyway, am I right? The parental advisory isn't an INSULT to the artist, it just means that some of the material might be objectionable to parents. ~Emily, the Sunrise Angel~ *I'd rather see the world from another angle* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 10:20:39 PDT From: "ivan couvillon" Subject: guitar tabs does anyone have the "Little Sister" tab ( from "pieces of you")please send it to me (any other tabs are also welcome) thanxx!!!!! ivan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 14:07:34 EDT From: Catnlove@aol.com Subject: Question about teen people poll...who is Katie Holmes? i might sound realy dumb, but oh well. who is Katie Holmes? she keeps bumping jewel out of the # 1 spot in that poll thing but i dont think i know who she is. can someone fill me in? e-mail to me not list, im sure every body else alredy knows or doesnt care :o) cat the chameleon angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 14:25:50 -0400 (EDT) From: Rachel Kramer Bussel Subject: SOLO book Mr. BB wrote: >September 1st- A new book called "Solo: Women Singer Songwriters >In Their Own Words" will hit bookstores. I think that Jewel does not deserver something like that on her album but I do believe that I wouldn't want a child to listen to something that they wouldn't understand the context of, which I believe that if they understand the context of Jewel's lyrics and poems then they won't need advisory but some children would take her words literally and, the one's that would do that need the advisory, so that parents can judge. Otherwise, I believe that it shouldn't be on her album. I've been away from my email for a week, but now I'm back (all cheer wildly) and badder than ever . And now, my fully intact and highly esteemed (^_^) theory on the Jewel parental advisory thing in BMG's CD menu (it was BMG right?). On the inside cover of Pieces Of You, there are some poems. A few relevant excerpts: "Bill, Butch and Bart / Swapping penis size in the front seat" - Leaving Las Vegas "Women who suck / their cigarettes / as though they were / giving their / hatred head" - Las Vegas So there we have the word "penis" and a reference to giving head. Anyone has to admit that there are probably some parents in North America who would prefer that their kids didn't read that. Heck, maybe some parents don't want their kids to hear Jewel say "I'm gonna give you some more" in Morning Song. Such parents are "advised" by BMG so that maybe they can avoid embarrassing themselves by exposing their kids to something they don't approve of. Anyway, don't get too upset over it... it's not like movie ratings, stores can't enforce PMRC stickers (that is, anyone can buy any album, no matter what stickers it's wearing). I mean she DOES use the word faggot... and that's a word maybe parents want to be warned about. BMG's just covering their ass, so no-one can say they weren't warned. That sewer then sends the big square to their area big sewer (great names, huh :) and they sew all the big squares together. Then those sewers send them all to one finisher, who sews them together and puts a border and padding on it. Then they send it to Jewel herself! It sounds ok, I think. I'll see.
