As I said only a few days ago, there will be more net-media articles based on nothing more than rumors & speculation & my advice is to ignore them. Websites like Rocktropolis & Music News Of the World are publishing pieces claiming Jewel's album may be delayed & also claiming its format keeps changing, but they are merely speculating. You'll notice that articles published by both these sources fail to name their "inside" information sources. This is almost always a sure sign to take these articles with a major grain of salt. The reality is that she hasn't intended on doing a Xmas album, but rather Jewel's intention is to focus on "spirituality, inspiration & love" as the loose theme. Yes, these themes are somewhat related to "winter", but certainly go way beyond a "holiday based album". The only thing "holiday based", is that they are working extremely hard to have it available in plenty of time for the holidays. Many artists release albums in November & December every year. Its a common time to push new releases. Does this make them "holiday" albums themewise--NO. Also, it's a mindless statement to say albums "may be delayed". Of course its true, because anything "may happen", but these published statements mean nothing really. Everything I've heard so far is optimistic that it will see an on schedule, November 17th release. If not, very shortly thereafter. The title of the album has not yet been decided, but I'll let you know as soon as I know. For EDAs that caught Jewel live in 1997, you'll recognize some of the newer songs that are tentively to be included, but a few songs will be new to all of you. I've seen a partial list of songs recorded & some of her best recent material is included. One tune that has not been mentioned previously that I'm personally thrilled about is "Barcelona". This is definately one of her most powerful songs. Some of you heard Jewel sing this at last years EDA Thanksgiving Concert at Java Joe's. It was written during last years 2nd Europe Tour & has been previously refered to as "Let It Rip, Let It Fly". It's one of those songs that she begins singing in her lower register & then her voice soars on the "Let It Rip, Let Fly" chorus. I think its one of her strongest songs yet & I was extremely happy to hear its to be included. I guarantee you'll all love this one. Very powerful! Also check out Jewel's official site soon for photos & more info from these current album sessions. BiBi & West are taking lotsa photos & some will be up on the site soon. Theres also some great merchandise specials going on at the Jewel Store right now. Check out these things at: http://www.jeweljk.com/ Now onto some other updates. I've been told they have decided not to do the AOL Teen People live chat that was mentioned a few weeks ago. So that has been cancelled. They are still interested in online chats, but are striving to find a better, more intelligent setup that will be more enjoyable for everyone. Touring plans are now being determined with a possibility of a few weeks of live dates in the United States toward the end of November. No specific dates or venues are available yet, so please refrain from asking. I'll keep you updated about that & the EDAs will, as always, be the first to know. Here's some specific upcoming things of interest for you: September 1st- A new book called "Solo: Women Singer Songwriters In Their Own Words" will hit bookstores. This features a chapter written by Jewel. This book is compiled by Marc Woodworth and Emma Hanson and is published by Delta Publishers. I think price is $14.95 US dollars (pre any discounts) & will be available from any bookstore. If you are outside the US or would like to pre-order it locally, the ISBN # is 0385324073. September 1st- Jewel's close friend & occasional collaborator Steve Poltz will be featured in his own half hour VH1 TV special called "An Evening With Steve Poltz". This was recently filmed at one of his gigs at Schuba's in Chicago & will air at 11:00PM EST on VH1. September 8th-Jewel recorded an interview for a Seventeen Magazine TV Special called "Seventeen's Superstars". This will air on the Warner Brothers Network at 9:00PM EST. November 17th- Scheduled Release date of Jewel's new album. Many have also been asking about Jewel's movie, "Ride With The Devil" & the book its based on. Last I heard, the movie will hopefully hit theaters worldwide sometime next March of 1999. The book that this movie is based on, is called "Woe, To Live On" written by Daniel Woodrell. This title is out of print but can be found. I read it 6 months ago & enjoyed it very much. It was published by Henry Holt & Co. It's publication date was originally July 87 with a reprinting in 89. For those trying to track down a copy, it's ISBN # is 0805002839. I expect it to be republished again, likely to coincide with the movie release. Also, this weekend, Jewel's Grandpa Yule Kilcher celebrates his 80th birthday. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY YULE! Thats everything I can think of this morning. Hope that helps calm any fears about the album & brings you up to date. Have a great weekend & seeya soon at the LRT gigs! :-) MrBB ****************************************** For LRT (Living Room Tour) dates & other gig info by artists you'll enjoy, take yourself to: http://thespis.com/crashboy/EDArtists/EDArtists.htm ****************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Aug 1998 10:04:11 -0400 (EDT) From: kartalst@HUGSE1.HARVARD.EDU Subject: NJC: The "Labour Day" part of Labour Day Weekend... Hey all Jewel-lovers, I mean no disrepect to Jewel by this memo but I do know that Jewel is a Christian. In A Night Without Armor, on page 31, there is the end of the poem The Slow Migration of Glaciers, in which she capitalizes the word Alaska but not the word God. Why is that? She did capitalize God in another if her poems, so maybe it was a mistake, but i was just wondering if there was a reason for this or if anyone else caught it. Jeff~The Romantic Angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Aug 1998 20:37:32 EDT From: Jkpisces@aol.com Subject: Quilt Update Hi Angels!!! Wow, so much has happened since my random thought popped up! I've had generous offers volunteering to pitch into the quilt, and many great ideas! Well so far, here are the ideas about how to go about making the quilt: 1) Each state/country has a master sewer, and everyone in that state/country mails it to them and that person sews them together. They then send it to the next closest state and that person sews their squares to the previous state's squares. Eventually they make it to the finisher (I've had 2 wonderful, extremely gracious offers from people volunteering to do that :) who adds the padding and the border. Then, with donations made by other edas, that person ships the finished product off to Jewel. 2) The next idea is very similar to the first one, just instead of the cumulative squares, each state/country's sewer directly mails their pieced- together squares to the finisher(s). 3) There are no main sewers, just each participating EDA sends their square(s) to the finishers. The finishers here are the main sewers, who first of all pieces together all the squares (the EDAs would mail their squares to her), and then she mails it to the other finisher who would add the padding and border. This one is really up to the finishers, and it depends on if they'd really like to do all that work. Of course we have until just before X-mas tp finish it. I'm going to go ahead and ask the volunteers which they'd most prefer to do, 1, 2, or 3, and majority will win. So if you volunteer, or would like to volunteer, to do a square (pleeeaase do!) just e-mail me with a mail with "vote" in the subject, and in the body just put 1, 2 or 3. Thanx! About the volunteers, I've had 16 people volunteer to do a square, and I need more!!! C'mon, guys, this is our chance to give back to Jewel! She's done so much for us, inspiration, beauty, music, this is a great opportunity to show her what she means to us! Please volunteer, it doesn't take long, just e-mail me your name and state/country (I'm not sure if we'll still need the state/country, but just to be sure). Thanx! IMPORTANT!!!! I made a boo-boo (great vocab, huh :) and said that the squares had to be 5"x5", but I was informed that to make them that size, you need to get 7"x7" squares of cloth to leave room for the seams. SO MAKE THE SQUARES 7"X7"!!!! I apologize if you already made your square, but now they have to be 7"x7". I'm sorry for telling you otherwise before! But 7"x7"! I was asked if people can make more than one square, and I think that would be a good idea, because we might need spare squares to even things out. Another IMPORTANT NOTE: PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR MAIN SQUARE!!! On your spare squares, don't put your name. And if you make more than one spare, paper-clip them together. That way the finishers will be able to tell the difference. On one last note, we are gonna need funding for the shipping, etc... so I'll bring it up again after the method of construction is decided. Ok, I'm sorry this was so long, but I've gotten so many questions and I wanted to answer them all. So I'll talk to everyone later! Thanx for all your generosity! ~Jenny Sugar High Angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #448 ***************************
