Hiya Angels! Well, I had a really random thought at like, 3 AM this morning. I remember seeing FANatic with Steven Tyler. See, his fan was talking about how a bunch of Steven's fans made a huge quilt, each fan having made a square that showed what Steven meant to them. Well, I was thinking, whoa, this would be really cool to do! I mean, for Jewel. Like for a Christmas present, I suppose. Since I am a sorta newbie, I'm not sure if you guys have done anything like this before. I don't know, maybe it could be cool. If there's an angel out there who is good at quilting, we could get it all pieced together. I can't sew to save my life, and I'm sure there are others impaired like me, but you could just draw on a piece, or write, or iron on a picture from the computer. I know this is sorta out of the blue, but it was a random thought. I dunno, it's just an idea :) Tell me what you think! ~*Jenny*~ Sugar High Angel "Somehow our standard of living got stuck on survive" ~Jewel With all the faith I could ever fathom/ I throw it out, believing it's good enough/ to fly ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 16:15:33 -0400 From: beccahusky1@juno.com (Kristin A Maynard) Subject: Poll results Hello everyone, I want to thank of the EDA's who voted in my e-zine poll. Mike :-) ****************** Jewel Working On Sophomore LP In L.A. Studio Singer/songwriter recording follow-up to 1995 multi-platinum debut, Pieces of You. Contributing Editor Dakota Smith reports: Pop singer/songwriter Jewel Kilcher, known to the world simply as Jewel, is currently in a Los Angeles recording studio, working on the long-awaited follow-up to her multi-platinum 1995 debut album, Pieces of You, for the Atlantic label. The 24-year-old, Alaska-born performer has hooked up for the record with producer Patrick Leonard, who has previously collaborated with artists such as Madonna and Bryan Adams, according to a source at her label, who did not want to be named. The new album plans seem to be a reverse of direction for the artist, who previously said she was planning on releasing a holiday album as her next project. In an interview with Jewel in May, the singer told SonicNet Music News that her next recording project would be a Christmas album, with arias and holiday songs. But an Atlantic Records representative said Wednesday that Jewel has changed her mind, and the album will not be holiday-themed. One anonymous label representative would not reveal any further details about the upcoming Jewel release, except to say that Atlantic plans to issue the finished product for release on Nov. 17. Another Atlantic representative added, however, that the date isn't definite. "We're hoping by the end of the year," she said. "But these things always change." The official Jewel website, meanwhile, gave an inkling of what fans can expect from the forthcoming LP. A recent statement issued on the site reads: "Jewel has been in the studio since the beginning of August working on her new album. Spirituality, inspiration and love is the theme of the new album." The statement goes on to say that Jewel already has "a long list of her own songs to choose from" for the album, including "Down So Long," "Face of Love" and "Raven," and that the folky-pop songwriter will eventually select a total of 12 songs for the as-yet-untitled album. The new album is Jewel's first full-length release since Pieces of You, which spawned the radio hits "Who Will Save Your Soul" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Foolish Games." Last spring, Atlantic Records released a double-LP vinyl version of the album with additional tracks. Approached at the Youth Program in New York City's midtown YMCA, 13-year-old fan Atia said she hoped the new album would show a stronger, more pumped-up Jewel. "She could make her songs a little more kicked-up, like Michael Jackson," Atia said. "Songs that make you happy." Meanwhile, Jewel's book of her own poetry, "A Night Without Armor" (HarperCollins), is currently #7 on The New York Times Bestseller List. Jewel told SonicNet Music News that she plans to release two more books: a collection of love poems and a book of essays. But she also has aspirations as an actress. Joining the ranks of musicians-turned-thespians, Jewel will be playing the role of a 19-year-old widow in "To Live On," a Civil War-period film directed by Ang Lee ("The Ice Storm") and to be released in January 1999. article at http://www.sonicnet.com/news/article1.jhtml?index=3 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 16:37:20 PDT From: "Robby Fischer" Subject: Jewel Polls in at #2-- vote now! Well, people seem to like my random thought (the quilt we can piece together and eventually give Jewel). Well, Stephanie (Clearwater) had a good idea: Each state can have a main sewer (that's a person who sews, not a place where the toilet flushes to :) that everyone in that state sends their square to. I'll be keeping track of those volunteers, so if you'd like to be the main sewer in your state (all states are open except Stephanie has volunteered to do Texas already) just e-mail me and give me your name and state and tell me you want to be in charge of the sewing in your state. And, even if you just want to participate, just e-mail me and tell me your name and state. We also need a finisher, someone who is particularly experienced in sewing who can finish the quilt up once the squares have all been pieced together. Someone asked me what size the patches should be. Well, I think 5"x5" sounds good, right? And as to what should be on the squares, just try to put what Jewel means to you on it. If you just want to write a poem she inspired on your square, that's fine, because it's the thought that counts. Well, it's starting to sound really great! Thanx to everyone who commented! Well, if you have any questions and/or want to participate, remember, just e- mail me! Thanx! ~*Jenny*~ Sugar High Angel with all the faith I could ever fathom/ I throw it out, believing it's good enough/ to fly ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 20:48:22 EDT From: Dumbass751@aol.com Subject: Jewel Chat Hi (again) Angels- This e-mail is just a reminder to stop by the Jewel chat room any, or every night at 10PM EST. So now I'm calling all Australian angels, or any for that matter to decided how we can contribute :) My thought was that...since I don't really know how to sew, was that we could put together a book of poems, drawings, and anything else that expresses our thoughts and feelings on Jewel's music. I'd be happy to compile it so now all I'm asking for is contributions and helpers :) Also if anyone *can* sew in Australia we'd love to help put together the quilt too :) Let me know your thoughts and feelings, and *yay* for jenny's great idea :) Love and Faery hugs ~*Watercolour Stain Angel*~ Jodie _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
