I must say that my opinion of it was very very low. I can see why TV Guide gave it a big fat zero. It is not an interview show. It is a half an hour long, there are two celebrities per show, and half of the time spent on one celebrity is about how the fan is surprised and how they get to wherever their idol is. It's a Jewel TV appearance, and that's great, but I am no longer very excited about it and have managed to console myself quite well for not being chosen by realizing that the show is lame. =) Just my two cents. Welcome to the wild world of Usenet news, where anything that CAN be perverted, will be. :) Most of the alt.* newsgroups (actually, most of the unmoderated newsgroups, period) fall prey to this, because online advertisers think that if you only SEE their worthless product & ad 300 times, you'll decide to pay them money. Sending an ad once, for a legitimate (**related**) product, I could understand... but, unfortunately, the people who advertise in the newsgroups are... well, for lack of a better word, stupid, and think that by clogging up every newsgroup, they'll make money. And it's hard doing anything about it unless you've got a moderated newsgroup, in which case only the moderator(s) tear his(their) hair out dealing with junk mail. It was fun watching the kids get to meet their 'idols' but the interviews were kind of non-existant and the idea of having two celebrities per show was a bad idea ... not enough time to interview one person let alone two people (or two groups of people as some cases are). There's been a slew of posts coming in asking the same thing, and/or for the winner to come forward. First of all, I would like to say that I have successfully converted another person to Jewel's music. I went to Tel Aviv (I live in Jerusalem) for a week, and made everyone I know listen to my new Jewel tapes (thank you SO much, Mike). Anyway, I've been wondering about something for a while. In Nikos/Brother it says "my father was excomunicated from the Mormon church" (or something very close to that). Was Atz a Mormon? I'm just asking since I know most of the song is autobiographical. I just posted, but then I decided to post about this issue as well. Most fan clubs send stuff out. Many people on the list do not live in the US (like me). Most fan clubs allow only US residents to join, or require a higher membership fee, since it costs more to send it abroad. Either way, I think it's unfair to people living outside the US. That's the great thing about a list, it's global, and no one feels left out because of where they live. Now before people reply and say that this way people who don't have computer access get left out, I'm not ruling that idea out (at all). I think that maybe there should be a combination of the two (i.e. a non-computer related version of the list and/or newsletter in which there will be a summary of discussions on the list, and newsletter info available through the list as well). Anyway, I just got home from being away for a week, most of it without sleep, so if I'm babbling or not making any sense, just ignore it. It includes "Sometimes It Be That Way," "Carnivore", and > "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone." > > Has anybody ever heard of it? Is it legitimate? I would guess this is what is known as a Radio Transcription CD. They are produced for US radio stations and are allowed to be broadcast for a limited period, after which, I believe, they are meant to be destroyed. But invariably some escape and find there way into record dealer/collector's hands. You can find them under various names, the one I know of is called In The Zone and is produced for the Westwood One Radio Network. It was recorded at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on the 18th May 1996, the concert commonly know as Jewel Rocks The Paradise. I'd guess the In Concert CD is from the same gig as well. It contains a selection of Jewel songs from this concert interspersed with radio commercials. There are other Radio CDs that you might be able to find, I know of one which contains a recording of the VH1 Hard Rock Live broadcast, which contains some additional Jewel chat not contained in the VH1 TV broadcast, but has only eight of the ten songs. Are they legitimate or not? Well, Promo CDs always have NOT FOR SALE written on them but these can be purchased in most record stores. However I believe the legality of Transcription CDs might be somewhat different. According to the magazine Record Collector it is illegal to sell transcription disks of US Radio Shows in the UK. I have no idea what the legal situation is in the US or the rest of the world. Chris.
