Also this same day, they'll show "Women First". I doubt this is the one recorded about a year ago, because they say it includes videos from Jewel, Robyn, Natalie Imbruglia, and some newer artists. First, since I've never heard the first one, can you do a song just instrumentally, I have this faster, kind of a rock version of Amen but my singing voice leaves much to be desired. Was their any instrumental performances on the first one? And second, what is the best way to record the song if I was to do it? Hopefully not by going to a studio or something like that, that takes money. Any info would be appreciated. Ok, later. Aaron The Steel Angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 02:57:16 EDT From: PucaFddlr@aol.com Subject: Jewel Movie Teasers!!! Well, here's a little something to give all you EDA's something to think about while waiting breathlessly for additional details about the movie... So, I play Irish fiddle, and I was in DC over the weekend (FYI, I live in Ohio) for the huge 4th of July concert series/festival there. (an aside: it was totally awesome, no matter what kind of music you're into. I was SO glad to be staff and get to watch from a separate area, because there was an estimated 500,000 people all crammed onto the mall and adjacent Washington Monument area, just to see these concerts and the fireworks). So, I happened to run into a friend of mine, Zan McLeod, who's a current DC area resident, and a totally awesome guitarist in the celtic genre, as well as other styles. We get to talking and he tells me (talk about weird coincidences) about how he just got back from Missouri, shooting a scene for Jewel's new movie! Apparently, he and some other friends (Roger Landes, John Whelan, etc., all who are also totally awesome musicians) got called to do a scene that required some musical numbers, and, of course they were all for it. They got neat period costumes, and really cool old-style instruments (pot bellied mandolin, older style guitar with a teeny body, a button accordian with metal keys which was backwards in that all the notes were reversed [usually on a BA pushing in the bellows while holding down a key is a different note than when pulling out the bellows while holding down that same key - all that was reversed on this model..], but I digress...). The tune they played was called Miss McLeod's, if anyone is interested. They're not sure how much of a scene they'll have (so much usually gets edited out), but I can tell you that it's a wedding scene near the beginning of the movie that they're playing for - and that's *all* I can tell you! ;) As for Jewel - Zan said he wanted to say hi, but she was a bit aways, surrounded by a "beastly looking" gang of bodyguards. He was sad, but hey, he got to hang with Ang Lee!! He was also bummed that he had missed meeting a whole bunch of actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio (although somehow I don't exactly see Zan and Leo hanging out or anything...), by one day. Apparently, the day before Zan's shoot, it was one of the leading actor's (Tony something?) birthday, and they had an on-set birthday party, and all these famous people flew in for it. Okay - I think that's it. I'm definitely going to see the movie now, though! ;) I just thought it was kinda neat-o... alana. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 08:37:31 -0400 From: lklecanda@juno.com (Lisa A Klecanda) Subject: Fan Club Hi, everyone! With all the talk about the Fan Club idea, I've heard some great ideas. You are all very creative! I like the idea of an ID card, but what if someone like me, doesn't have a picture? I think a picture should be optional. Also, an unofficial newsletter is a good idea. I would gladly help in any way I can, since the Fan Club was my idea! Web pages are a good idea, too! I really hope we pull this off! She may be small, but she is strong. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 09:02:20 -0700 From: "Wizard" Subject: ID Cards? I'm not too sure about this EDA ID card idea. Why do we need ID's, we know who we are. It won't get us backstage, you can't use it to cash a check or get into a bar, when the police snatch you out of your car and slam your face against the pavement while demanding your credentials (hmm...maybe thats just me) I don't think they will accept this form of identification. Instead, I think we need Secret Decoder Rings (ala Lil' Orphan Annie), or maybe a Secret Handshake (ala The Shriners - then it's just one small step until we procure a fleet of those cool little go-carts they have that look like flying carpets). Well, just brainstorming. I was browsing the official Jewel site, and read that she has "recently started a non-profit group dedicated to environmental and political issues." Does anyone know exactly what this is? I remember there being a big concert a while back to celebrate the creation of a new charity sponsered by Jewel where several artists performed. Is the web page talking about that? If not, what is the new group Jewel started, and what's been happening whith the charity organization anyway? I had to stop reading the list for a long time about a month ago, so maybe I missed something already posted. If anybody knows anything about either group please let me know. Thanks. About this fanclub idea - maybe we could just make and EDA newsletter that can be sent to offline and online people? Or whatever we do, we should make it stay something to do with EDAs, if ya know what I mean. So it'd be something like "EveryDay Angels: The Jewel FanClub", cuz that'd be good! Anyway, whatever you do, I'll be willing to help arrange all the stuff you need for the European region of the fanclub, and also help all the Dutch jewelfans with their stuff, since I live 5 minutes away from Roermond in Holland :) So, European EDAs, why don't all the people who wanna help with any sorta fan-clubby/newsletter kinda thing mail me and if the fanclub comes off, we all know who can help with it! In short, I mean: It's a really good idea and I'll be willing to help with it!
