Many are asking me why I've neglected to post anything about it. Well, there's a good reason I've neglected to post anything about it & that's because Jewel never agreed to do it. Once again, its the press jumping the gun, & reporting something with no confirmation from Jewel's management. So...the bottom line is--Jewel will NOT be performing at this gig & I sincerely hope anyone who dished out $40.00 for a ticket without checking on this first, either has interest in the other artists or can get a refund. The various media & websites that have posted info that Jewel will be performing at The Goodwill Games are mistaken. If youre looking for something to do that weekend in the NY area, I suggest checking out The 2nd Annual Bearsville Reunion. This is definately happening & you'll meet a lot of fellow EDAs while experiencing the rush of adrenalin we old-timers commonly refer to as "Dennis Harris". ;-) I won't be able to make it this year, but a good time is guaranteed for you! For more info on this annual EDA event, go to: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/bv/bv98.htm Also, here's some miscellaneous other good things coming up around the United States featuring Andres Condon, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Mary Dolan or Steve Poltz. Info follows this message (below). All the best, MrBB 1) Another Andres Condon gig this Sunday July 5th. Here's the info: "Javanican Coffehouse" 3719 Mission Boulevard, San Diego Ph.619-488-8065 Admission is FREE. Andres will also have his CD "Nomad" available at the gig. I know his EDA following is growing & he's told me that he's immensely enjoyed meeting the EDAs that have attended recent performances. :-) 2) Cindy Lee Berryhill & Garage Orchestra Unplugged LRT gig. Here's the info: July 9th at 8PM LRT gig in Venice Beach, Los Angeles. She seemed very nice, and give me a call close to one, today. I probably won't be picked, because I really didn't demonstrate anything special that I looked to Jewel for (LOL. I suppose if I weren't madly in love with someone, I suppose I would look to Jewel for support and guidance in major situations, instead. Maybe if I told her that was the reason, it would've looked better. LOL.), nor much of a knowledge of her poetry. She didn't ask me to e-mail her like some have reported (although I left an e-mail in her mailbox last night before she called that she hasn't read yet, that I've deicided not to unsend), nor did she have a long conversation with me like some have said. Oh, well. I gave it my best shot. Maybe someday I'll be walking down the street, and see her. Who knows? Although, I'm sure Jewel's looks probably have helped her, because in advertising, a slick, attractive package is going to make people at least look and say, "Hey, what's that all about?" What it comes down to is, it's easier to sell something that looks nice... Jewel happens to have something to back up the packaging. Good luck to the rest of my fellow EDAs. > > -Matt, The Philosopher Angel I have to admit that my situation is pretty much like Matt's here. Even though I called in early and she returned it almost right away, it seems that I had some kind of disadvantage-- maybe it's because I'm not her "#1 fan", though I doubt it. I'm not a very emotional person in the sense that music can alter my life, and I don't have 50 different occasions on memory that could show how Jewel has helped me out of depression or anxiety or what have you-- I think that's the kind of thing that Rachel is looking for however. Personally, I don't think the idea of #1 fan is broad enough-- every person is a fan in their own way. I tend to have an overwhelming sense of respect for Jewel rather than an obsession, which I could reasonably argue is a greater sense of respect than anyone else has, but there is no way that I could argue that I'm totally brainwashed by Jewel. Personally, I would think that Jewel would prefer people that respect her rather than adore her, but I suppose that's not what the contest is aiming for. Like Matt I didn't get a request for an email either, though we did talk about Jewel's poetry on the phone so that may have preempted the need for it. Unfortunately, it's a lot harder to convey respect over the phone than it is a hyperventilating oh my God oh my God oh my God impression. And of course I wasn't willing to make up any kind of fanaticism or fake being hyper about Jewel, so no, I don't expect to win either. I know the people who have already met Jewel would probably be the best qualified to win the contest, so if you've met her already, take that into consideration for the others entering. Good luck to everyone who's called. - --Brian ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 17:58:03 -0700 From: klbastarache@juno.com (Krystal L Basatarache) Subject: njc: new mailing list We are starting a Dawsons Creek mailing list of our own, and are looking for people to join.
