It rang, to my surprise, and I was greeted to a message saying that she was away, and to leave my name, number, and a "detailed message." To my surprise, about 30 minutes later Rachel called back, and she talked to me about 7 or 8 minutes I guess about how Jewel has affected me and "proof" that I was her #1 fan. We had a pretty decent conversation though-- it was more personal than I thought something of that nature would be. She said that I was one of the first ones to call, so that's why she responded so quickly-- she had just found out yesterday that Jewel's Fanatic appearance was her assignment. I think I was told to sit tight for three weeks while they finish the phone interviews. I'd encourage anyone to call-- I did it just because I was bored, and I really don't expect to win or anything, but I know there are plenty of people out there who would love the opportunity to meet Jewel. - --Brian ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 19:33:42 EDT From: HRENB@aol.com Subject: Jewel's looks/ her boyfriend I dont know if this has been brought up before, but does it seem a bit ironic that Jewel's boyfriend (although I heard maybe they were broken up now?) is a good looking dark haired blue eyed model? I can't comment on his depth of course because I've never met him, but it seems like Jewel is pretty anti - models (i.e. the modeling show/ dinner story) and I would picture her with more of an artist or writer type. A model is a piece of art, not an artist. So to answerthe question of do Jewel's looks make her more appealing, of course they do, and obviously, they are important to her as well. (Stev Poltz wasn't too bad looking of a guy either) peace to all, good luck in fanatic and poety contests The Lone Wolf ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 16:55:26 -0700 (MST) From: Wes Derby Subject: Re: Stupid Jewel Questions Part 2 Hey. I have a theory. It's cool to ask her about herself. However, I personally also like when people submit questions about her views b/c for me, the internet, braille, and tape and other audio formats are the only way for me to gain access to magazines. Unfortunately, most of them aren't available in Braille. And the one's that are are usually about a month out of date. So, I kind of like it when people ask about her views and opinions on the list. I'M sorry if i have offended you but.......I dont understand you. I understand yous saying your oppinion but i DO NOT like how you said it. Maybe you should re-consider yourself. Look in the mirror. Do you like Jewel >because of her wonderful musical talent (blah blah blah), or do you like >her because of her looks? Just a thought, because no other guys that I >know (in real life) evers says anything nice about her. Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk This is such an interesting issue, because whenever someone goes to trash Jewel, all they say is "she has big tits, blah blah blah." I like Jewel because of her music. It's wonderful, meaningful and full of emotion. I can listen to "Near You Always" and cry. Is she gorgeous? Absolutely. Stunningly so. But that's not why I listen to her. Physical attraction can only draw me for so long; I'll lose interest in somebody that lacks substance very quickly. I haven't been around for ages like Sean and Dan and all the JewelStock people, but from what I hear, she's a wonderful person, too. I buy into the whole let's be nice and honest people philosophy. The thing is when you have people like Pamela Anderson or the Spice Girls who have very little talent, and succeed to some extent because of their appearance, nobody says anything. But reporters are constantly hounding Jewel with ad hominum attacks because of her breast size. Okay, I know that all people have their opinions ( I'm speaking of Jewel here, in particular ) but this review is just plain harsh...What started of as putting down her poetry book ( which is understandable, because some people don't like poetry ) turned into putting down Jewel's music, which turned into putting down Jewel...I mean, go ahead and give Jewel a bad review, but you don't have to go as far as to say that Jewel's career is successful just beacause of her breasts...Does anyone feel similarly? ~Stay true~ Scott Evans The Hyperactive Angel AOL IM: Scewel "Hands manifest thought" - Jewel Kilcher > http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_06.25.98/art/books25.html > ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #350 ***************************
