If not, ARE there any angels at Texas A & M in College Station? 2. FOR USA EDAs.... I looked at the site http://eil.com for rare Jewel music, and I found an item that I want to order. I am writing because I would like to send in a combined order with one other angel in the U.S. Maybe more, it depends. Postage is expensive and goes down a LOT with a second item in one order. We could split the savings. If you are interested, email me privately. I copied all of the Jewel items they have (so you won't have to wait 10 years for the whole list to download) and I can send you the list. To save you some trouble, the cheapeast item plus postage would be $10. If you don't want to spend that much, don't write. I'll be gone this weekend but will reply to email as soon as I return! I will send anyone the list and will team up with at least the first person who says they definitely want something. I'm looking for a recording of the 1997 MTV Music Video Awards. Actually, I'm looking for a sound bite from it. I figured, because of Jewel's performance on the show, a lot of you EDA's probably have it taped... BUT... this is marked NJC because I'm not looking for a recording of Jewel's part on it. I've still got that bit... What I'm looking for is a complete and uncensored version of Fiona Apple's acceptance speech... you know the one I mean, the one about how the industry is "bullshit", the one that Garofalo mocked (in rather poor taste) on the Lock'N'Load CD... Why do I want it? It's for my next album... I'm going to set it to music... if I can find it. ^_^ So yeah, due to my desperation, I'd appreciate a helping hand in any form... even if someone could record just the audio for me, or point me to it on the web... well yeah, thanks for reading this anyway. ^_^ | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 00:08:05 -0400 From: Horter!!!! I thought this was an interesting topic and since I haven't posted in a very long time I thought I would do it publicly. :-) The first time I heard Jewel, I had NO idea what she looked like. PoY had just been released and I heard MOPGGTW on Stanford Uni radio station at 3am. This song hooked me immediately. I hunted high and low for StL since that was the album this song came off of. I didn't find it, so I settled for PoY. I got my first glimpse of her there, but thought she looked young and didn't really pay much attention. I didn't look at the CD booklet for several months after that. I got my copy of Rare Angels (thanks Neile wherever you are ;-) and listened to that constantly in my truck. It has MOPGGTW on it!! And so much other stuff. I don't think I listened to PoY much at all after that. Then, one night, at 4 in the morning, when my local cable channel switched back to VH-1 from Comedy Central (don't you HATE that?!?) I saw WWSYS. Keep in mind that this was a time when it was extremely rare to hear or see Jewel. That may seem far fetched to you, but look at the archives. You will see many mentions in great excitement of people FINALLY seeing the video. She looked good in it, but to me it didn't matter. I was already hooked on the music. Long story short, it's the music, not the looks. First of all, I have a question..... "If people are going to bash Jewel, or don't like her...WHY join the list in the first place?" Yeah alright, I agree bad press can be good in a sense. But hey... I think the ""PRESS"" worries too much about what people do. I mean, Jewel is a great person, a great artist --very talented-- Love her for that...I think the press, and SOME people make WAY TO BIG a deal over ""details"" which if someone who wasn't famous wouldn't make a lick of difference. Just my 2 cents :) Have a GREAT night. The "review" given at http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_06.25.98/art/books25.html would be considered bashing where as criticism is where you judge someone's work by the quality of their work and not by how they look or by how popular they are. While I would agree that criticism, good or bad, is need, bashing is usually the work of a small mind attacking something that it does not understand. Getting right to the point- To be honest, I first became INTERESTED in Jewel because of her looks, like most men may do. However, after a short period time I began to learn more about her and really become a fan of Jewel's work and music, not just her face. And I also think that most male EDA's feel the way I do, because I don't know why people only interested in Jewel's looks would be on this list anyway. Collecting algelfood and poetry is not something that a guy would do if he was only interested in Jewel's looks. Okay- have I set thinks straight? The first time I heard Jewel was when I saw the video for Who Will Save Your Soul on one of those late night (3 am or so) VH-1 or MTV video shows (Ah, the fun of studying for Biochemistry exams... :), sometime in late 1995 I think... I had never heard or seen her until that point. I was immediately impressed with the song, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't also think, "Hey, she's pretty cute." However... I really don't think it was her looks that made me go out and pick up the CD later on, after failing my Biochem exam... I'd say on the whole, it was the music that I found interesting; the fact that Jewel is attractive really doesn't have an effect one way or another over whether or not I'm going to spend $12 to $15 on her CD. I mean, the Spice Girls are pretty good looking women... but that sure as heck isn't enough to make me go out and buy their music. :) Kevin - ---------- Kevin Pease kbpease@boston.crosswinds.net (ICQ UIN: 3106063) http://www.wpi.edu/~kestrel "And as I watch the drops of rain weave their weary paths and die, I know that I am like the rain, there but for the grace of you go I..." --(Paul Simon)-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 14:58:03 EDT From: Zaria2@aol.com Subject: Possible Angelfood Offer Hi Angels! Well school is over for me (it was a few weeks ago) and I thought of an idea to keep me busy. Over my Spring Break I made my angelfood available for dubbing. I was thinking I'd make an offer like that, but even easier. So here's my idea- if you are interested in my tapes all you would have to do is send a check or cash to me for blanks and postage and I'd just tape them with blanks I would buy and send them. That way you could save money on postage, and it would be a little less confusing for me. I'm not making the offer right now, I just wanted to know if enough people would respond. So if you would be interested send me an e-mail. I'll send an e-mail to the list if I decide to go through with it. Right now I have a pretty basic collection, but I'd like to expand it. If anyone would be interested in helping me out please e-mail me. *Jen* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 14:38:50 -0400 From: "Kevin B. Just my little shpeal on >everything. I have a feeling that I meant "Jewel bashing" in a different way than you took it, though... I'm not saying Jewel shouldn't receive honest criticism... when I say "Jewel bashing", I mean *bashing*, i.e., a critic ripping her to shreds for no other reason than because he or she can. (As I've said before, I do think she's talented, but I won't turn that into worship...) But there's a difference between getting some bad press, and getting ripped to shreds because a critic happens to have some personal issues with an artist. I'm all for constructive criticism; I'm definitely not in favor of a critic ripping someone apart just to get a little power trip. (Regardless of whether or not we meant different things by "Jewel bashing", though, I still think that 99.9% of the people on this list probably aren't pro-bashing...)
