I've had a number of responses about the "Near You Always" video so I thought instead of replying individually I'd post it to the list... still can't work out how the video came to be in the first place... one Angel suggested it might have been put together by our local TV station, which seems quite possible except for two things: 1) it's too well-done!!! *LOL* 2) it never came out as a single or got played on radio or anything, so they had no reason to make a video it was some time after YWMFM but before FG came out that they started playing it, so my bet is that it was originally intended as a single instead of FG, but then the Batman thing came along and the idea was shelved, but only *after* copies of the video had already left the States... I don't know, it's just my guess... as I haven't seen the full video for the Sean Penn-directed YWMFM remix clip for about a year, I'm not sure exactly how much footage from that video is used, but I'll briefly describe the NYA video, anyway... the whole clip is shot in B&W and has Jewel in a movie theatre watching two films... one has some young people in a swimming pool and the other is an old-fashioned looking subtitled film that looks either Spanish or Mexican... a few times during the clip Jewel turns around to smile at an old lady in the back row who kinda smiles back at her and you get the impression that the old lady is remembering her youth while Jewel is contemplating old age... they kinda "connect"... in-between all this is shots of Jewel walking around a house, cutting out pictures from a magazine and things like that, and it also features shots from the POY album sleeve... then at the end Jewel goes to walk out the door, but turns around and pauses looking toward the camera... the footage taken from the YWMFM remix video is kinda slowed down to fit the sentimental mood of the video... if any of you Angels would like to see it, I'm gonna try to request it on the show that plays it, cos it recently became a net-only show (which I think sucks cos music videos BELONG on TV!!!)... so if they do play it I'll let you know what the URL is... only problem is you can't save the file... believe me, I've tried!!! :-) Kim Lees Your New Zealand Angel Standing By - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **** ICQ# 13385547 - please feel free to add me to your list... **** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 15:58:10 EDT From: Jesapeet@aol.com Subject: "Jessica" Does anyone have the .wav file of "Jessica" or know where online there is one? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 15:20:31 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." It is in the Backstage Pass 10th annual readers poll on page 92. ^i^ kaite ^i^ the introspective angel who paints watercoloured roses ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 16:17:26 PDT From: "Greg White" Subject: Need help ordering Hi Angels! I am in grave need of an angel [probally canadian] to advise me on just how Canadians can order from the Jewel store! I really need the Calander an Lyric book by the end of this month, and I'm only 14, so I can't use a credit card, I can easily get a US money order but I don't know how much to send for shipping and handeling, can anyone help me out??? Oh yeah, the fact that the title of "A night without armor" is Night and not Knight really screwed me up, and I almost ended up not getting it. You see, I phoned like, three different bookstores asking if they had it, and they all said no! But later that day, I strolled into chapters [one of the stores I phoned] just to look around, and they had it, so when I bought it I asked casually about why they said over the phone they didn't have it, and the girl just said "Oh, I thought it was Knight, you know, like in the midevil days, so when I typed it with a K into the machine thingy it said we had none! But I though that was weird ya know because I though I saw it, silly computers heh?" she was a real ditz. Anyways, I have it now and all is well. I was just wondering why Nikos isn't mentioned at all except for the dedication. Oh well. Be well angels! :) Greg ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 19:42:03 EDT From: EDA10@aol.com Subject: angelfood? Weird Al directed it, and it is a cover of Titanic, and the actual old lady that plays Rose iin Titanic is in the video, and instead of having all these pictures of Jack, she has all these pictures of Hanson. And Weird Al is there and she asks to see the picture that Jack drew of her and she has a I love Hanson tatoo on her arm. And he says "ENOUGH WITH HANSON, WHERES THE JEWEL?!" And she says "What? Jewel? I don't have any of Jewel's CDs, I like Hanson." Well, wasn't too much, just kinda funny. Chat, Jewel was asked "what is the topic of the Oprah show that is going to be aired tomorrow?" She said "Me!" And that it airs on "the 22nd." I guess we have more time to get our VCR's set. Maybe someone can confirm this, but just to be on the safe side, I am still going to watch tomorrow to make sure. Bye people. Brett The Angel Formally Known As.... http://members.aol.com/PENNY16161/index.html PS - The Yahoo! chat was about 10 million times better than the AOL chat because she only answered fan questions. However, the way Yahoo! set up the chat box was very annoying. But, hey, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You go Jewel! Stevie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 23:23:12 EDT From: Salinger99@aol.com Subject: Jewel on Yahoo I must say, without a doubt, that Jewel's chat on Yahoo using Javascript was one of the MOST FRUSTRATING online experiences of my life. I had to ignore everyone in the chat room, because everytime someone typed something new, the text would shoot down to the bottom of the screen, and I couldn't read previous text. And even when that was taken care of, Jewel's answers still moved way too fast and the questions were asked far too quickly. And you knew they were scraping the bottom of the barrell for questions when they let one go to Jewel that asked what color pen she liked to write with. Pathetic, huh? A couple good ones got through, but not many. They even asked if ANWA was available on CD!!!!! They shouldn't let questions through that can be answered by hopping over to Keyword: Barnes and Noble!!!! Well, anyway, it was pretty bad. Much worse that the AOL chat. I gotta get to bed, guys. If you missed the chat, you're probably better off than I was, because at least you can call up the transcript with no hassle, which eliminates all this crap, and you can root through for the decent questions. Be well, and keep on EDAing. - -Salinger99, The Philosopher Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 22:19:38 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: Jewel Yahoo chat / Attn: Sean Hooks! Well Jewel just ended her chat in Yahoo tonight. There were over 16,000 questions asked, of which about 100-120 got through to her. One of mine made it in, very early on, and I found her answer to be quite interesting. I sort of asked this for Sean, but my curiousity was there too. The question was about why she chose to cut the last few verses of As A Child I Walked. The version she read at Jewelstock was much longer. Her answer was (paraphrased)....."because the frist verse basically says the same as the last ones, and it just ran on too long...".... How about that? I wasn't expecting an answer like that one. Sean, if you read this letter, let me know what you think too. I've heard the original, and I don't think the first verse is the same as the last ones. Anyway, Jewel answered many questions, was on-line for about an hour, which surprised me. So it was a very good chat session in my opinion. Other noteworthy things she mentioned....the album coming out in November is still going to happen most likely, she called it something like, "an album in time for Christmas". Not necessarily a Christmas album though I guess. But she did say it'll have a theme to it, unlike her other works. And she mentioned that the Oprah show with her on it will air on th 22nd of June. That seems too far away. Alan, do you have any confirmation on this? I kind of figured it would be this week sometime. But Jewel said the 22nd. That's about it for now.... Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 23:26:26 EDT From: Cloud9219@aol.com Subject: LA article how can this man see Jewel as an inferior human being? I doubt this man has created insightful poems, has struggled to make a living with her father singing backup, has lived in a house without running water and electricity, had moved miles from her home to try to make it as a serious artist, has lived in a van by himself, and has climbed her way to the top through beautifully written lyrics and inspiring songs that us EDA's so admire her for. Who is he to judge this insightful woman, who has done so much more for humanity than he will ever do through his critism. This guy shouldve stepped back and saw Jewel for the wonderful person that she is, and the exceptional music she has created, instead of taking a look at her "firm breasts" and making a completely inacurate article. ~*~*Jill*~*~ "the swing dancin' angel" "Life's a journey......where did i put my damn shoes?" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 23:40:15 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: Jewel Yahoo chat (Jewel Oprah airdate) Derrick wrote: > And she mentioned that the Oprah show with her on it will air on th 22nd of >June. So the 22nd airdate that Jewel mentioned seems like it may be accurate. I know Alan is checking into getting the date of the airing from Jewel's road manager, assuming he has the info.
