Hi guys. I just wanted to give my feelings on the Jewel Chat that happened about 5 minutes ago on AOL. First off, this was one of the longest chat's that I've been to, and I'm glad it was. Most of them that I've been to start about 10 minutes late and end a half hour later. This one, however, started 10 minutes EARLY, and ended an hour and five minutes later. Other than the annoying nusances that you'll find anywhere, I enjoyed it. One guy couldn't get off the topic of Celine Dion, until the room pratically kicked him out. Then there were the people who didn't understand how this chat session works, which I understand because it is confusing the first few times you use it, but you would think that after the room has said it about 15,000, the person would understand that only their row can see their comments unless they click on 'Participate in Event'. Anyway, that's enough of the negatives, on to the Jewel part. I still see Jewel as Jewel the singer/songwriter, the way AOL was promoting it, but most of the interview was based completely on poetry. Not that there's anything wrong with that; her latest thing is poetry, so they wanted to know about that, but I felt that it is almost over with, and they should have asked more about the new album and the movie. I was very shocked when the question came up on when is your new album coming out and how different is it going to be from POY. She said that she is releasing a "Christmas" album in November. But then she went back on it and said that there probably won't be any "Christmas songs", but more angelic lullabyes. That sounds pretty cool, if you ask me. A bunch of people like ASB, and this album sounds like it is going to be a lot like that. Next time that she chats, I think that the EDA's should have they're own row, get there early, and chat with each other because I really would have enjoyed that a lot more than listening to it with non-Jewel fans, people who didn't have a clue about whether or not she was even there, or anything else. Let me know what you guys think about having our own EDA row and we'll try to get that together. Well, speak to ya later. Brett The Angel Formally Known As.... http://members.aol.com/PENNY16161/index.html PS - Remember to keep on voting in the polls! :-) PPS - Anyone who didn't get to see the chat, I'll give you the basic jist of it if you want. E-mail me privately if you do. Sorry, but I couldn't get a copy of it, but AOL may put one up on the VH1 and/or Barnes and Noble site soon. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 22:05:24 -0700 From: lemon16@juno.com (Eliot J Lemoncelli) Subject: New Jewel-not from a moderator Hi Did anyone see the info on Jewel's new album on the official website. It scared me!! A holiday album?!?! I thought. Latin lyrics-yipe! So what happens to album sales after Christmas. A lead balloon comes to mind. What about radio no holiday song I've ever heard made the Billboard top 50 let alone top ten. I am beginning to wonder about the suits at Atlantic Records- are they all right or have they been locked in there offices too long. If anyone else feels this way--- or differently feel free to mail me I can handle it. I am out for the summer catch you later Eliot ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 22:19:14 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-Stopping Jewel & MrBB Fraud on AOL! Hi all, I hope everyone enjoyed THE REAL Jewel chat on AOL tonight. Much better than the "fake chat with Jewel & me" that two AOL members created Saturday night, huh? ;-) Here's some relevant info on how to protect yourself in the future from some of the fraudulant activities that have gone on lately on AOL. As many of you know, on AOL, theres been several people that have victimized EDAs over the past year or more with lies, fraudulent email forwards from Jewel & basic harrassment. Some EDAs have been contacted by one AOL member that "claims to be Jewel's friend". He fraudulently claims that he can forward Jewel messages. He also sends these EDAs fraudulent letters from Jewel in a pathetic attempt to convince them of his friendship with her. It is now known that the same individual was also responsible for the fake AOL Jewel chat last Saturday night, where one person impersonated Jewel & his co-conspirator impersonated me. AOL management, in conjunction with Jewel's management has already taken steps & these offensive situations will soon be history, at least on AOL. A system has also now been set up to help eliminate these "fraudulent situations" in the future, as well. If the above situations are familiar to you, here's what you can do: All EDAs that recieve(d) emails "supposedly" from Jewel are now encouraged to forward them immediately to: FakeJStop@aol.com. This also applies to chatrooms. If you are (or were) in a EDA chatroom & someone claimed to be Jewel or me, please copy the offending chat & email it to FakeJStop@aol.com. This mailbox will be monitored by Jewel's & AOL management & all "AOL TOS violations related to Jewel" will be taken care of immediately. You are still encouraged to fill out TOS reports, but at least take the time to do the above. You'll be helping to prevent others from being the next victim. For those who are in the dark about these things, heres what occurred this weekend. Two people were in aol chat rooms inpersonating both Jewel & myself. They replaced the "W" at the end of my screen name with 2 "V" 's(example: ABershavv), thus making it look similar enough to my name to fool unsuspecting Jewel fans. A similar thing was done with Jewel's name replacing the "W" again with two "v"s (example: JevvelJK). For future reference, I want everyone to be 100% aware that I NEVER go in chat rooms. I've not been in ANY chat room in over a year! Those who know me well, know theres a good reason why I never go in chat rooms & thats because I type with one finger & am completely useless in chat rooms. (I type so damn slooooow, the topic would change 5 times before I could answer anything!) Also, Jewel NEVER, I repeat NEVER logs onto aol to chat. The only exception is during pre-announced officially advertised events such as the AOL Live Arena tonight. There is absolutely no situation where she will ever be online chatting out of the clear blue. Once in a blue moon, BiBi may be online on Jewel's account, but even then she will not be in a chat room. So....Bottom line is that Jewel or myself will NEVER be in a chat room. PERIOD. No exceptions. If someone in a chat room claims to be either one of us, they are FAKES, not to be trusted & you should forward the "chat text" to FakeJStop@aol.com. From time to time, there will be people who fraudulently claim to be Jewel. Expect this & don't fall for thier pathetic attempts to get your attention. Remember this & from now on, if ANYONE claims to be either one of us in an AOL chat room, "supposedly" sends you an email from Jewel or is offensive to you, REPORT IT! If you've already been a victim of these people, you are welcome to send any information to the above address as well. Jewel's management has gotten AOL management to take this situation very seriously & the offending parties will soon be history, at least on AOL. And to the offending parties who I hope are reading this & laughing: Try to retrieve your "fake screennames" & have a nice day! :-) All the best, MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 08:39:17 -0700 From: "Chuck Mize" Subject: NJC:A sad story... Hello angels, I was a member of this last year and through some wonderfully nice people I had a very nice collection of angel food. The people who had made the tapes for me had even created cassette labels and covers that listed all of the songs and I had nine tapes in my angel food collection. My sad story is that I was out of town last week and while I was gone my roommate had a party and during the party someone stole my Jewel tapes! They also stole a bunch of my other CDs but that is beside the point... I was wondering if I could convince someone or maybe a few people to help me re-create my once awe-inspiring collection of angel food. It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Chuck The Ripped-Off Angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 22:16:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Trevor Subject: SJC: San Diego madness.. Hi all... I just had a somewhat Jewel-related personal story, so I thought that I would share... I currently live in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts and I (for various personal reasons I won't even begin to get into) am moving to the San Diego area. There are three of us moving out here and we came out for a week to look for a place to live. We left Boston on Thursday morning bright and early, expecting to get here around noon on this coast. Needless to say, we had the most horrific flight experience. Our original flight was cancelled, our second flight had to turn back to Boston after about a half hour because the cockpit window cracked, and our third flight (now connecting through San Francisco) hit horrible weather and was delayed getting in (after some of the worst turbulence I have ever had the pleasure (sarcasm here) of living through). Anyway.. Seventeen hours later we landed in San Diego, got our rental car and headed out to La Mesa (where we rented a condo for the week as a "home base"). The San Diego real estate market has recently gone throught the roof and it was very hard to find a place that we liked (and we need at least a three bedroom/2 bath for the three of us). Today (Tuesday) came and the best we found was a bit north of the city in Del Mar (further north than I wanted) but it was the only nice place in our price range. Last night one of the realtors we had been dealing with told us about a house just coming up for rent in July (which is when I am actually moving) and it had not yet been rented. It was a two bedroom, with a loft for a third bedroom near Hillcrest (which is where we originally wanted to live) in a place called University Heights. We went and looked at it and it is the most gorgeous house I have seen in a long time and was in our price range. We filled out a rental application on the spot. All three of us were in love with the place and were crossing our fingers, hoping that we could get the place. About an hour or so later he called back and said we could have it. We rushed over to the bank to get the check for the deposit and first month right away and headed over to give it to him. Anyway.. We were sitting talking about the house (which he currently lives in) and he happened to mention that Jewel and Lenedra once rented the house from him for a while! He didn't seem to know a thing about her, so I was more prone to believing him. It was just strange. I've enjoyed Jewel's music for so long and now, strangely enough, I'm going to be living in one of her old residences.. ...Trevor ...The angel who's moving into Jewel's old house... ;) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 22:36:02 EDT From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: Typo makes a BIG booboo? We all know Jewel isn't the BEST at spelling or punctuation (no offense, but she isn't -- it's not an insult, it's true). Well, she explained the title of the book of being vulnerable and unprotected. So doesn't she mean "A KNIGHT WITHOUT ARMOR"? That is vulnerability. Perhaps she didn't know about the silent K. "Night Without Armor" was never explained and has nothing to do with vulnerability. Sure, it sounds like "KNight" but it's "night", but that's unnecessary. The point Jewel is trying to make is "When you wear armor, you knwo what part of you is sensitive". Without armor is the key to the title. So why would "night" be necessary? Jewel must have spelled "knight" wrong. I hope all those who attended enjoyed Jewel's chat at Authors@aol tonight. I thought what she had to say was very interesting. I even got one of my questions answered :-) (I was the one who asked the question about what we could expect form her new album.) I even took up the special offer to buy the limited signed bookplate edition of A Night Without Armor from Barnes and Noble on AOL (It was a special offer that popped up when you entered the chat. You can't find it by searching the website regularly). I almost missed the end, because this wise-*** hacker tried to punt me at the very end of the chat, but fortunately I have my buddy list blocked at all times, and got to see the chat in its entirety (he is now reported to TOS by me and another room member). But anyway, if you missed the chat and are dying to see what Jewel said, they'll put a transcript of the chat up soon, and of course in a few days (I forgot the exact date) Jewel will be chatting on Yahoo. Well, I gotta get to sleep.
