Hi... I can almost guarantee that this won't be happening - and if it does, it certainly won't be for a while. Tori is on tour for a rough total of 200 shows at the moment - she's going to be out there until when? The end of '99 or even the beginning of 2000.... I don't see her recording or releasing anything new (apart from her own BeeSides which she barely seems to have time to record as it is) within that time span... Additionally, she's done very few collaborations (Probably about 10 in total) - and I don't recall (m)any being with people on her own label... I agree that it's a nice idea, but I don't ever see it happening. BT wasn't, S.Bernhard wasn't.. They were talking about the release of the book, and showed what looked like clips of the Charlie Rose show, but I haven't even seen it aired yet! Has it come on yet? Anyone seen it? Anyway, she was reading from the book. =) I just love her voice when she reads. Doesn't CNN repeat itself? See if you can catch it sometime today. Of course there's always going to be the mandatory EDA gathering of the summer (bearsville? :)) but what about the little ones? For one, my birthday is in 2 weeks and the following weekend (Sat and Sunday june 20-21 and the monday - the 22nd) I am having a rather large birthday party with friends from the Ani DiFranco lists i'm on as well as some EDA and Jewel friends that I've met on here... I was wondering, is there anyone that would like to make this into somewhat of a gathering too? I'm posting my invitation to other lists too.. there will definitely be plenty of food because my best friend and his girlfriend are helping me plan this.. along with a lot of my clsoe friends and being it's my Sweet Sixteen I was hoping it would be a bash to remember. I am also looking to see if there is anyone in the Central New Jersey area that can perform at the party.. I would set up a stage and what not and we could have like a mini-festival. I'm thinking of booking a park with barbecue and camping arrangements and if that's not what's in mind, there's a hotel and a motel about a 5 minute drive away. Things are still in the drawing stages, and anyone is invited.. you don't have to bring presents or whatever, because I just want it to be all for the fun of life and joy and everything.. So... let me know... I think it would be a good opportunity for some EDA's i know to meet some others or whatever.. I, myself haven't been to an EDA gathering in golly knows how long.. but I think maybe the few people i've known will show and maybe some new faces.. whatever ya know :) I doubt anyone would be really interested but if you are, I'm really eager to get some replies.. I want to have a lot of people show up and have fun for once :) take care - -linda "the lovable angel" who throws some really great shindigs ;) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Jun 1998 19:35:42 -0400 From: "Jon Arena" Subject: USA Today vote A bunch of people asked for the URL of the USA Today vote. Is this a sign of Jewel's enormous cross-cultural appeal, or of hip hop's? Considering the low, low quality of popular hip hop, I'm hoping for the former... like, is Jewel reaching hip hop heads? In my vinyl collection, Jewel comes between Imani (Coppola) and Kool Keith. On CD, she's between Jeru The Damaja and KRS-ONE (neither of which are stellar examples of hip hop, but..). So you can see what color my laundry is, right? I'm just wondering if anyone else on this list is like me... spinning Jewel alongside DJ Shadow, the Sebutones, the Beatles, Dr Octagon and Marylin Manson... No, in order to make this a worthwhile inquiry, what I want to know is this - what musical backgrounds do you EDAs come from? Cultural? How far from your musical tree is Jewel's musical acorn, if that makes sense? Just how broad IS this appeal? Oh yeah, please reply privately... don't want to flood the list. ^_^ | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 10:22:45 +1000 From: blh301@coombs.anu.edu.au (Barry Howarth) Subject: New CD sounds like it'll be great Salvete, dulcissimi angeli! Quomodo valete? Hic in Australia caelum hiemale mirum in modum serenum est. In other words: Hi, sweet angels! How are you? Here in Australia it is a wonderful winter's day. And all the better because I have just read the info about the new CD and it sounds great! Jewel never ceases to amaze me. An album with mostly new, unheard songs, some in Latin! Just like Jewel to come up with something original yet so Jewel too. She's written and sung in Swedish before, and sung that beautiful Monteverdi "aria"/lament in Italian. And now singing and writing in Latin! She truly is a marvel. It must have been a premonition when I picked up a copy of "Latin Can Be Fun: A Modern Conversational Guide" by Georg Capellanus late last year in order to brush up my very rusty Latin. Now I really have an incentive to get in and do that! And an album with a spiritual theme! Jewel's spiritual power is certainly one of her greatest characteristics, a down-to-earth, everyday spirituality, that there is more to life than just to survive, but without religiosity - "Monks are great with their fists uncurled, but they live in a cave, they know nothing of the world". I'm really looking forward to this CD. I just hope it is released in Australia in November too. Just going back to arias for a moment. I don't like classical music generally, but Jewel singing Monteverdi's "Lasciatemi morire" on FF3 - and I understand she was sick at the time too - was just beautiful. I could listen to plenty of more Jewel like that. She is so versatile!! There is no one to match her. She is truly "kanya-ratna" (which is my own name for her - - from the epithet of Damayanti, the "heroine" of the Nala story in the great Sanscrit epic poem, the Mahabharata). She is a"girl-jewel", a true jewel of a girl! Forgive the delerium ( another good Latin word), but this new CD just sounds like it'll be fantastic!! Iubeo nunc vos bene valere. Valete, angeli. Curate ut quam rectissime valeatis. I must say goodbye now. Goodbye, angels. Keep well. First, I would like to introduce myself to the list, I am a Jewel fan from Argentina, I am 17 years old, and male. It is really nice to see how many people adore her as much as I do, because there aren't many fans here (I think that's 'cause they don't know her). Anyways, I love to play the guitar, so I thought it would be cool if all us guitarist angels made a tab book of Jewel's songs, either from tabs found in pages, or made by us. I would love to help... what do you think about it? How is everyone? Fine here. Its been a while since I posted. Hopefully, this will go through. Ok, now to the EDA fan post. I must of gotten in to this a little late or something, cause this is the first post I've read on this. Anywayz, I agree w/ Scott. As some veterans may remember, I think it was 1997....a guy posted about us being so 'obsessed' w/ Jewel. Personally, I was offended, but that's besides the point. I belive he wrote something like, "I am just a fan of Jewel, and all of you are OBSESSED w/ her. I'm getting off this list!" He wrote something similar to that. Ok, yeah, some of us may be 'obsessed', but that's something to be proud of. I'm D**N well proud of being obsessed w/ Jewel! And NO ONE should make fun of me OR anyone else about it! EVERYONE is 'obsessed' w/ something. Like my sisters, they are 'obsessed' w/ Leonardo Dicaprio. (Sorry, I'm kind-of getting off the subject.) And no, we aren't a cult. Now that, that is offending...towards me anywayz. We don't force or try to get people on the list. We don't try to get them to like Jewel. Its America, we are free to make our own decisions. Now, in my situation, I try to make people UNDERSTAND why I like Jewel so much. I don't try to make them like her. But when people don't understand, they don't understand me. I don't know. I guess that I am just rambling on. And if any of you want to flame me, go head. If you must. But I don't know if you should be called an Angel if you flame someone on their opinion. I hope you all understand my opinion. Bye:) Love ya, The Following Angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #301 ***************************
