I haven't had alot of time to read through the mailing list lately and I recently lost alot of my digests due to a system crash. What's up with the new album and why is everyone complaining? From what I've gathered so far, she's taking her music in a new direction. Why is this a bad thing? With out knowing the details, I applaud Jewel everytime she tries something new. Alot of artists choose one style of expression and hold to that with a death grip (ie Nirvana). But Jewel is constantly expanding her art and herself. And to that I say, "Bravo!" Mind you, I wouldn't complain no matter what style of music she tries. Because a) I'll listen to anything but Billie Ray Cyrus and b) she has SUCH an incredible voice, I have trouble seeing her not being able to wrap it around country, opera, etc, etc, etc. (although a Jewel hip-hop album may be suspect... :) ) Anyhow, just my two cents... As the debate on the cancellation of FCS rages on I thought I would take this chance to voice my opinion and finally post my first message. FCS would have been great there is almost no question of that...All musicians are free to evolve and explore other types of musical expression...Seeing as how Jewel is an extremely diverse artist if anybody can record Latin songs and sell them effectively in a market such as the US recording industry it would be her. Just as PoY means very different things to all of us, I'm sure we will all like this new a album for very different reasons. Everyone must remember that most if not all of us have huge collections of AngelFood that contain most if not of the tracks that would of made it in to FCS. Once again this is only my opinion but I would have to consider most of the tracks on PoY to be extremely shallow when compared to the unreleased stuff. {*I mean no disrespect and we are all entitled to opinions*} I would also be extremely surprised if they shelved FCS forever...FCS with the addition of few new tracks in 1999 would be great...this what I think the 'third album' will be.
