[Carolyn Lake ] Jewel's best characteristic(s) - addendum [Jeff Hamilton Subject: JC: RWD - KC Star Article Continuing the KC Star's series on RWD production is an article about props and costumes. I'll quote the Jewel content, which is about costume designer Merit Allen: For TV's "Scarlett," a miniseries sequel to "Gone With the Wind," Allen had to come up with 123 full costumes for the title character. She hasn't had nearly that sort of challenge costuming pop singer Jewel, the principal female performer in "Ride With the Devil," who plays a farm girl who has romances with two of the film's main characters, played by Skeet Ulrich and Tobey Maguire. "Jewel's character exhibits a striking sense of simplicity -- very unfussy dresses, with clean lines," Allen said. "But she's very feminine, and it's really nice to work with an actress with such a wonderful figure." All content 1998 The Kansas City Star There's also mention by the prop manager about how hard it is to get vegitarian food to look like a cowboy breakfast. A reference to Jewel? As far as Sean's post goes, I was disapointed as well when the subject matter/theme of the new album was announced but I have decided to withhold judgement until I've heard the album. After all those are just words describing an album, maybe the new songs will be as strong as the others. I hope that made sense. take care, Marcia ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 14:43:47 -0300 (ADT) From: Jesse A McDonald Subject: Re: Sucky New Album I certainly agree that it's disappointing to lose the Fritz Creek Store record... like, deeply so... and I'm kind of nervous about this Christmas record, too, because I don't LIKE opera. I mean, I've tried, but it just isn't on my wavelength, certainly not like the PoY record is. I mean, I have faith in Jewel as an artist, but lyrics in Latin... arias... more classical style... all very well, but if I don't like it I'm gonna be sorely disappointed. Oh well, at least I've got angelfood to get... | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 14:36:15 -0300 (ADT) From: Jesse A McDonald Subject: Re: The beautiful one I know this may be an unpopular thing to say, but if asked to be so... crass... as to select a favorite physical characteristic of Jewel's, I have to say her figure, and in particular her breasts. Sure, she's got a pretty face, and she's generally a beautiful person, but why can't the breasts be a favorite physical aspect? It's not like having nice breasts would make her less of a person or an artist... heck, if you read her poetry, it's obvious in more than one instance that she KNOWS she has particularly nice breasts. Which is something to be proud of as much as any physical characteristic, whether it be pretty eyes, a nice smile, or a shapely rear end. You'd think that by now your average person would realize that there's nothing shameful about the bits your bathing suit covers (or accentuates). But hey, it's not about her body, is it. I didn't spend $32 on the vinyl of PoY just to get a better look at her tits. Or her eyes, either. I got it because she's brilliant and empathic and talented and sings like nothing I've heard before. Hm, I bet people aren't going to like what I said... it's not that I mean to be offensive or anything, just... well shame is negative. Breasts are good. I'm honestly sorry if that opinion upsets anyone. | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 15:05:40 EST5EDT From: "Darryl Lim" Subject: NJC: Steve Poltz and Cindy Lee Berryhill in Michigan Hey all you MI EDA's!!!! I once had a crooked tooth just like Jewel's, and I had it fixed when I was a teen, I have always regretted getting it fixed. I missed it! It made me different, and now I am just like everyone else {sadness}. Who want's to be like everyone else? You have to be unique and different to stand out in this world. If Jewel wrote, sang and played like everyone else, she would not have stood out and would not have made it to where she is today. People who are caught up in being perfect or fitting in and being just like everyone else (the people who point out imperfections) are the ones that I am sure will not ever stand very much higher than anyone else in this world. They will strive to be not noticed. They will blend in with the crowed and then wonder why they are not found. If I were a brick in a red brick wall, I would want to be blue. Just my two cents. Mike Carmona - The Dreaming Angel P.S. If Jewel were an old ugly lady, would we all love her music, poetry, and philosophies as much as we do today?
