Aren't you all proud? Your little EDA sis finally bought Steve Poltz's album One Left shoe. Okay so my parents bought it. :) The point is, it's great! Which songs does Jewel sing backup on? It sounds like she's in "Impala." What a cute song that is, by the way. I truly like it a lot lot lot. The Mighty Mighty Bosstone's horn section is pretty cool there too. The whole album is funky! :) Later~~ Sam the ? angel P.S. To all you Sarah McLachlan fans, I got her CD Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and, along with Jewel's POY, it is the best album I've ever heard, absolutely excellent. She is right up there with Jewel as my popular female idols. :) moonsong@ix.netcom.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 09:36:52 -0500 (EST) From: Jennifer Anderson Subject: flower project hey all! this is the list i have of the people wanting to do the flower project (remember, plant a flower in jewel's honor, take a picture of it, and then send it to be part of the scrapbook?). if i don't have your name, state, or email right, please email me privately ASAP! also, if you aren't on the list but WANT to do this project email me, too! thanks! I am somewhat new to the list and haven't really had a chance to post anything yet or had anything to really talk about. BUT, finally I do! Not only did I pick up my A Night Without Armor book and CD from Borders but I also got an awesome job for the summer as well. What a day! Anyway I was following along in the book as I listened to the CD and I noticed that there were many disparities between the book and the CD. Of course some of the poems from the book were not included in the CD, I am thinking this was due to the time constraints of the CD. But there were several line changes in many of the poems. Words rearranged and in a couple of cases the book left some sentences out that the CD had. There were several poems whose titles were different and even a couple that had the titles switched. I even thought that I heard a couple of poems added to the CD that were not in the book but I'm not completely sure on that. Well the bottom line is if you can I would highly suggest buying the book and an audio version to get the full range of A Night Without Armor. Since this is my first post here's a little about me. I am a student at the University of Michigan and am living in Ann Arbor for the summer as well so if anyone is around this area please get in touch with me if anyone is setting up some get together. My biggest regret is that I missed out on JewelStock two summers ago. I had been on the list a bit before it happened and couldn't get the time off work to go. I won't make that mistake again.Well this post is getting rather long so I'll shutup. One last thing though. Does anyone know if Jewel will be doing a book tour. If she is I would suspect that Ann Arbor would be on list of destinations. So if there is a date please let me know. I'm in & out of town a lot this week, so I will not be my usual informative self... More details will be forthcoming, but here's some brief info on some upcoming things: 1) HarperCollins is sponsoring an online Poetry Contest open to all Jewel fans/poets. You can enter this contest & find out all the details by going to: http://www.tvgen.com/jewel/index.htm Later today, Harper Collins will be sending out the press releases about this & I'll try to post that when I get it. 2) Jewel will be doing 2 upcoming LIVE CHATS. The first one will be exclusively for AOL members on June 3rd. It's being done via the VH1/AOL website, I think. I'll post details when I get em. The second LIVE CHAT will be done via Yahoo & will be open to all with web access on June 8th. Again, I don't yet have details but will post when I do. 3) Atlantic Records will be webcasting the Jewel Poetry reading tonight (at a later date). Again, I don't know details but check the Atlantic site for more info soon. Please do not write me asking for more info as I'm not home, & not answering any email until next week sometime. If I find out more on any of these things, I'll either post or call your trusty list moderator Mike, who can forward the info to all of you. Running........ MrBB Go to: http://www.tvgen.com/jewel/contest.htm THE OFFICIAL JEWEL ONLINE POETRY CONTEST Now that you've read Jewel's poems, here's a chance to let her read one of your own creations. Enter the Official Jewel Online Poetry Contest! All you have to do is submit to us an original, previously unpublished poem in the space below. Jewel will choose one grand-prize winner and 10 runners-up after our judges — led by poet Bob Holman, dean of the spoken-word scene and co-owner of Mouth Almighty/Mercury Records and his panel of Po Masters — select the top 30 entries. Entries will be judged on originality, vision, how well they evoke their subject matter, creative use of language and degree of imagination. No submissions may be fewer than 10 words or more than 75 words in length. Entries must be received no later than 11:59 pm/ET on June 16, 1998, when the contest officially closes. One grand prize of $500 will be awarded; Jewel will match that amount and donate it to the charity of the grand-prize winner's choice. The grand-prize winner and the 10 runners-up will receive a signed copy of Jewel's book A Night Without Armor and a copy of the CD audio version of A Night Without Armor. In addition, the winning poems will be published here on the TVGEN site in July. Please read the rules carefully before entering. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 12:06:42 -0400 From: "Jon Arena" Subject: Jewel on the View Argh. There were approx 50+ asigned copies on the shelf at about 10:45. I also was givin a poster and a sticker that basically copies the cover of the book. Don't know how many poster or stickers they had. It was very slow there. E-mail me personally if anyone has more questions. Tim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 14:25:29 -0400 (EDT) From: "Lt. Dan" Subject: The View Interesting little show with Jewel on. I did like how they all loved her music as well as her ability and gifts of poetry and music. I dont know but I do like the View(even though some of the subjects I would rather not go into) it is a very well done show. But to get back to this mornin. Jewel was introduced with YWMFM playing in the background and a major intro of her accomplishments. The interview occured with the youngest of the crew(the single 20 something girl) where they discussed a myriad of subjects. Very good and somewhat well thought of. The girl( I think her name was betty) seemed a little star struck with Jewel. I thought there might have been some pauses that just did not seem to fit. But all in all our jewel did pretty well. She was presented herself well(as if she wouldnt do that anyways) and showed her humour throughout. Her intro into her reading was great. Makes me miss the good old days of the more intimate settings all the more. I think that I like her reading better than her concerts. But as I have not seen her in concert except for on the tube, I can not make a fair comparison. She was great on the show though. Loved it! She did make a comment where she hopes to have a new album out in November. Not sure if she will be able to do that. With the movie and her poetry book, she has a full plate right now. But we can hope. Til the next little publication/appearance. Abraham Lincoln ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 16:09:54 -0400 (EDT) From: kartalst@HUGSE1.HARVARD.EDU Subject: SJC: the poetry contest. Hello EDAs... I guess I am feeling somewhat disheartened and unsure what to do about this whole Jewel poetry contest thing. You see, I looked at the rules/submission guidelines to find something which disheartened me greatly. The winning poets must forfeit their rights to their work and give all rights to Harper Collins and Jewel...which is the same thing as handing over your whole creation to other people... ...this is not something that I see too often. As soemone who submits to literary journals and who has submitted to various contests, the "common" copyright proceedings is that any poem printed in a journal or winning a contest has its copyrights given over to the journal/contest for a "one time only" sort of use...and after publication or announcement of ocntest winners, the copyrights are given *back* to the poet for re-publication in any future combinations of works he or she wishes to produce/publish. so this forfeiting all rights clause makes me nervous. Part of me is interested in participating in this, though I know I will never win, but part of me is highly disheartened by this harsh section of the rules. It just doesnt seem right for the winners to have to forfeit their rights to their creation, to that expression of their souls... any comments? any thoughts? love you all stephanie Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos We should be very greatful to have a kartalst@hugse1.harvard.edu limited body...like mine or like The Greek Poet Chyck yours.
