It comes out to $16.25 with tax. I called the MegaStore in New Orleans today, and they knew about the live broadcast. They said they're not even selling tickets though, for me to just show up Tuesday evening. Also the girl i spoke to said they had no idea about having autographed books available. She talked to her manager, and he confirmed that they won't have any autographed books. Anyone know what's up with that?? Mike or MrBB?? Thanks anyway to Mike and MrBB for all the info! Everyone appreciates it greatly!! BTW, anyone else going to the New Orleans store tuesday night? later! Only those 250 people will get in. Now if there are no-shows I'm sure you can show up the day of and get in but there won't be many spots I'm thinking. And if you call Virgin directly, you need to talk to someone way high up or the little employees who don't know anything will give you misinformation. I am collecting one to three line messages to put on a card. I will collect them from now (5-17), till wednesday to ensure the card makes it out to Jewel in time for her birthday. The card will be a collage of photos on the front, so if anyone wants to send one virtually, I'll note it on the card. Well, I better go so you can have more time for messages! I was looking through Rolling Stone Online, when I came upon their State of the Union television event. Anyways, they had articles, videos and pictures of some of the artists who will appear in the show (including Jewel). Here's their article on Jewel. Jewel In her own words When I was living in my car and thinking, "Please, God, help me live my dream," I was very aware that my getting anywhere depended on somebody taking charity on me. When you're poor, you're very aware of the fact that we all have a responsibility to one another, but I think that in general a sense of community has really dwindled -- the sense that we all depend on each other. When you're rich, I think it is easier to feel independent of your community, so I would just urge people who can help to get off their asses, to stop talking about how much they love God and stop talking about how much they love their family and do something about it. I mean, we're the ones that have arms, and we're the ones who live here, and we're the ones who have a responsibility to help. We can all do a lot more than we do. I make a ridiculous amount of money, and I feel it's my responsibility to give it. I'm just like a steward, and I have to. I also feel like you can't fight the enemy with despair. You can't say you want things to be different and that the world's going down the tubes, and not do anything about it. I don't think cynicism is smarter -- it's just safer. It would be pretty useless if I went through what I went through -- being that poor and being that sick -- if I didn't do something to help other people, now that I can. And if you don't have much to give, kindness goes a long way. They also have a video of her and Beck (she's riding a horse) that you can download and a few new photos of her. I think the photos are from her performance at Java Joe's. See ya, Melissa the angel who learned how to drive. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 1998 15:16:08 -0500 (EST) From: Jennifer Anderson Subject: card hi guys! well, the card has now been mailed. please stop sending me emails! the deadline was friday the 8th and i was still getting them on the 16th! sorry, those did NOT make the card! please check future digests because sharon will be posting the "10 winners" as soon as i send her the names. thanks to everyone who participated! i appreciated it a lot and i hope jewel will, too! oh, i didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the card before i mailed it, so here's a little description: front: a bear that's saying, "we had to get you a card this big..." inside: "to hold all of our love" that may not be exact wording, but it's pretty close. i had to insert an extra page into the card to hold all of the messages! some of you don't understand what "please keep it as small as possible" means! but i put on everyone's message that i got. please DON'T email me asking if i got your's because i have no way of checking. i might remember your name, but i didn't read every single message that was sent to me. hopefully jewel will send us a response or something, so keep your eyes open! love, jennie @}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,--- But when in your arms you have complete power over me -Jewel, "Near You Always" @}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,---@}--`--,--- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 1998 17:00:12 -0400 From: paul@magic.ca (Paul Schreiber) Subject: Discography Addition WEA released another of those Now compilation CDs. Anyway, Jewel's radio version of FG (the one from Batman & Robin and some singles) is on Now! 3. The CD also features Paula Cole, Chumbawumba, Great Big Sea, Spice Girls and a whole bunch of others. This is probably only going to be available in Canada. Since the FG radio version isn't exactly rare (unlike the YWMFM one), I don't see a great foreign demand for it :) but if you're interested in getting a copy, drop me a note and I'll be glad to send one for you. Hi everyone :) I hope your weekend was as great as mine was!! :) I have some stuff I wanted to find info. about :) First, I just received from a friend a song by Jewel "Wish you were here". I LOVE it, and it's made me feel so much "not alone" when I'm lonely. Does anyone know the words to it? I looked on the lyrics archive at "http://www.endor.org/jewel" and I can't find it there. I would like to learn it...If someone can help on this, that would be great! :) Start of NJC part :) 2nd, I'm doing a poll again, and I was wondering if there are any EDAs currently attending Drexel University, or that will be living in Philadelphia over the summer that would like to talk. I'm a sophomore at Drexel University and I'm starting to feel lonely that everyone is leaving for the summer and I'm stuck going to classes. Just privately email me("mailto:kaosking@voicenet.com") if you wanna talk. 3rd, I was wondering if anyone knew of any place I could find angelfoood-like stuff for Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, or Tori Amos. I am already on the EDA mailing list, the Lilith Fair list, 3 lists for Alpha Phi Omega(the service fraternity I'm in), and a joke mailing list,...in addition I receive email from my own chapter about stuff, so I'm not too nuts about joining another mailing list just to find out stuff like that. If someone knows a place to find that, can you please let me know? :) Thank you very very much!! Everyone take care and Have a Great Day!! :) Seth Fulmer A.K.A. (MrBB's input) Hey folks..... More than a few folks have been sending in posts stating that they think that Jewel's "Wish You Were Here" may be a cover of the Pink Floyd song with the same title, so I asked MrBB, who ought to know, being her audio and video archivist. His reply is below (permission given to quote him). - Mike :-) His reply: Jewel has never (to my knowledge or on any archived recording) performed The Pink Floyd song "Wish You Were Here". Whatever song being spoken of must be a completely different original Jewel song that someone listed with an incorrect title on a tape. I remember a song called "I Don't Feel That Bad" that has a line "I don't wish you were here". Maybe thats it?? If someone tells me what show its on, I can easily look up that show & get the correct title confirmed when I get back. And to clear up any other "Pink Floyd" speculation, Jewel has another totally original song called "Comfortably Numb" that is also NOT a Pink Floyd song. (Can be found on the "Innerchange Days" recordings.) MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #265 ***************************
