I'm a rare species in that i'm one of Jewel's english fans, along with my buddy Ben who posts on here sometimes. So I decided to look into it and I called the Charlie Rose show. They confirmed the show and that it's NOT a repeat, it's a new show scheduled for Monday the 18th! :-) For those of you that do not know, the Charlie Rose Show is on PBS (the Public Broadcasting System) in the USA, and it one of the best, if not THE best plain ol' interview shows on the air. When Jewel was on this show about a year ago, it was one of the best interviews I had seen her have/give (IMO). The show is an hour long, and Charlie usually has 2 or 3 guests, so Jewel could be on anytime during the show. It's syndicated on PBS, meaning not all PBS stations carry it, and it can be on any time of the day, and perhaps in some viewing markets it could be on the next day. So check your local listings. You don't wanna miss this show! (Please note, the Charlie Rose show is VERY NOTORIOUS for last minute bumpings and rescheduling of air dates....just letting you know....last year her airing WAS bumped the scheduled night due to the late breaking sheep cloning story....making Jewel the first ever star to be bumped from an airing by a clone, for you trivia buffs) Also, while poking around the Rock On TV site on AOL, Lesley was also there and pointed out that Jewel will be on TV next Tuesday (the 19th) on an ABC show called "The View", which in my market is on at 11:00am ET, but you obviously should check your local listings too. By checking the web site of "The View" at http://www.abc.com/theview/index.html it appears to be a show co-hosted by five ladies, the only one I recognize is Barbara Walters. Of course, there's also the previously announced Thursday May 21st show, "Where It's At: Rolling Stone's State of the Union" which is on at 9:00pm ET on ABC. The Jewel related excerpt from the Rock On TV web site blurb for this show says: Rolling Stone celebrates it's 30th anniversary with this two hour special scheduled to air on ABC on May 21st (9:00 pm ET); the award winning film making team of Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, and Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis spent time with a selection of today's hottest artists and noted opinion-makers {snip} show features exclusive and intimate performances from a number of today's most significant artists, including Jewel's first live performance of previously unreleased material, "Winter Song" and "Fragile Flame"...... * Seeing how some stars run the gamut of talk shows and radio shows when in New York City promoting a new film, album or book, I would not at all be surprised to see her pop up on some other shows next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday....so keep them eyes and ears peeled for any news on this stuff and of course post if you read or hear anything new :-) Mike :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * If you have list related questions, feel free to email me * at Ducksoup@spectra.net * * DuckofPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 May 98 10:38:41 CDT From: "Jay C. Johnson" Subject: Jewel sighting: TV Guide I haven't seen this posted yet, so here goes: In the newest issue of TV Guide (May 16-22, Julia Roberts cover) on page 6, there is pic and article of Jewel. [pic: same one as from the Natural Living Today cover, with a red/pink and black top] MULTIFACETED JEWEL Stef McDonald In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Rolling Stone magazine turned to some of the most notable names in rock&roll to take a look at today's youth culture. Not surprisingly, in "Where It's At: The Rolling Stone State of the union" (ABC, May 21, 9 P.M./ET), the fresh faces of rock, including Beck, Fiona Apple, Sean "Puffy" Combs and Jewel--pipe in the loudest. The 23-year-old Alaska-born Jewel, a self-described "student of music and student of life," has kept busy since the release of her 1996 chart-topping album, Pieces of You. For the special, she perfomrs two unreleased songs from the "tons" the prolific songwriter has stockpiled. Since her participation in last year's Lilith Fair tour, she has given her vocal cords a rest to focus on "a whole new frontier in my life." The singer, it seems, is a budding actress and a poet; she's currently filming Ang Lee's Civil War drama, "Ride With the Devil," and has just released her first book of poetry, A Night Without Armor (HarperCollins). "I would never take my music for granted," she says. "But I have a lot to do, and I get bored if I'm not being sufficiently challenged. There's always a bigger risk of failure when you barnch out, but I'd rather risk it. It keeps me from falling asleep." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 May 1998 10:48:19 -0500 From: "Bruce Hartford III" Subject: JQ: (Jewel Question) As we all know very well, Jewel is kind and caring in a global perspective. Her efforts to preserve peace and beauty in the world through her music and words has been astounding and uplifting in the extreme. I'm curious as to any -extra- efforts Jewel has made. With the income I'm sure she's been receiving as of late in her life, I'm curious what kind of charities have struck her fancy. Perhaps Jewel has kept them a secret because it is a personal matter to her. If not, can anyone inform me of the group(s) she might have contributed? Alan? Mike? I ask because I value her judgment. She's been places I've never been and been exposed to things I've never dreamt. I would imagine all this gives her quite an interesting view of such things. A view I'd be fascinated to hear. - -Bruce BruceWas@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 May 1998 12:27:11 -0700 (PDT) From: 90 blackwell Subject: various artist tv dates (fwd) Forwarded from harbinger@smoe (Paula Cole list): hi all i was on rock on tv and checked out the hbo page. so here are some dates to put on your calendar 5/16 (sat) 4pm shawn colvin - storytellers - vh1 5/17 (sun) 11 am shawn colvin - stortellers - vh1 5/17 (sun) 6pm sarah mclachlan - storytellers - vh1 5/17 (sun) 7-9pm sarah mclachlan, paula cole, other artists - lost songs - vh1 5/17 (sun) 9 or 11pm sarah mclachlan - behind the music - vh1 5/18 jewel - charlie rose 5/18 natalie merchant - letterman 5/19 jewel - the view 5/19 natalie merchant - rosie 5/21 9pm ET - rolling stones state of the union jewel - first live performance of previously unreleased material "winter song" and "fragile flame" fiona - solo performance "never is a promise" 5/22 (fri) 2:05am paula cole - reverb - hbo 6/4 indigo girls - letterman 7/4 paula cole - sessions hope this helps you all out. and if you missed any of these shows before you have the opportunity to see them soon. jill b. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 May 1998 14:02:25 -0700 (PDT) From: "*sp@cegrrrl*" Subject: NJC: steve poltz Well I heard that steve would be playing here in Sacto May 30 at the Heritage Festival.. so of course I'm ready to jump at the chance to see him... only I check out who is on the bill there and his name is no where to be found *frown* does anyone know if he will be playing there or not? My name is Eddie, i am 16, and have been listening to Jewel's music for a few years now. I had never heard her music until I was in my friends truck, and YWMFM came on the radio, and that is when i got into her music. Its kind of odd though, since most of my CD collection is anywhere from main stream Rock to some Hard Rock, but i guess that is what is so special about Jewel and her music, it has the abillity to touch people no matter what kind of music they listen to. Well, anyways, the point is, I am going to make a web page, but have not been able to come up with any ideas for it. I would appreciate any ideas from anybody. Please don't suggest Music, including Jewel, not that i have anything against her, its just that it seems there are so many web pages about Jewel and other musicians and bands, that it would just be redundant to make one of my one. As it is, i have a web page for a band i like, but it just didn't work out, and now, its just a crappy site, that i have already forgotten about it. Also, i am the owner of The Tool Ring ( Tool being a very good band) hosted by Webring.org. Sorry this post is so long, but i kind of got carried away. I could Use any help i can get. Hi all EDAs, There's a lot of Jewel TV coming up next week so get those VCRs ready! Some of it Mike posted about earlier but here's the complete (so far) rundown of everything I'm currently aware of. There's a lot more! :-) ****************************************************** Monday, May 18th: PBS- Charlie Rose Show TAPING. He often tapes several shows daily so scheduling could be last minute. His show is often broadcast the same day, but not always. Check your local listings to be sure. ****************************************************** Tuesday, May 19th: (an extremely busy day!) 11:00 AM EST "The View"- ABC Network Jewel will be a featured guest on this show. Afternoon: "MTV Live" Segments Taping Jewel will be taping 5 poems being read live in the MTV studios. These will air at midnight (we think) on 5 consecutive nights in a row. When the airings will begin has not been determined but I'd guess it would be all the following week. 7:00-8:30PM EST Virgin Megastore, NYC LIVE Poetry Reading & Question & Answers with Jewel. This is being broadcast live via satellite to 13 other Virgin Megastores around the world. Jewel will be reading live from "A Night Without Armour". Then she'll be accepting questions live from the audience in NYC as well as from attendees at all the other Virgin Megastores around the world. A book signing line has never been mentioned to me & although it seems possible, I cannot confirm it. This appearance will also be filmed by various news & music networks so expect clips & footage everywhere shortly thereafter. It is open to the public but expect total chaos at the NYC location. Only a limited amount of people can fit in the store. I suggest getting there as early as possible. The other Virgin Megastore broadcasts should be much easier to attend. I do not know which 13 stores are included. Call the one nearest you for that info. ****************************************************** Wednesday, May 20th: CNN "Showbiz Today" Taping Broadcast time unknown VH1 Taping-- Jewel will be taping a new half-hour special to be announced & broadcast at a later date. ****************************************************** Thursday, May 21st: 9:00PM EST ABC Network "Where It's At: Rolling Stone's State of the Union" Rolling Stone celebrates it's 30th anniversary with this two hour special with a selection of today's hottest artists and noted opinion-makers. Jewel is shown performing the unreleased songs "Winter Song" & "Fragile Flame". This performance was taped at Java Joe's on 2/9/98. Theres also interview footage included. (Side Notes: Cindy Lee Berryhill was also interviewed but I'm not sure if she made the final edit. Also, every report I've seen posted about this show has mistakenly said: <<..including Jewel's first live performance of previously unreleased material, "Winter Song" and "Fragile Flame">> These are definitely not Jewel's FIRST live performances of these songs, but they are both excellent solo acoustic versions that I'm sure you'll enjoy. :-) Hope everyone is doing well & that this momentarily reduces my mailbox flow! ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #256 ***************************
