There was a small mention of the Jewel movie in Movieline, page 24. "Ang Lee's 'To Live On,' which is shaping up to be 'Gone With The Wind,90210,' stars lusty songbird Jewel as a Civil war-era lass who gets romanced by both Skeet Ulrich and Tobey Maguire." I know it's not much but I thought it was cool that it was compared to "Gone With The Wind." Also do any of you know if the song "Have a little faith in me" that jewel covered for the soundtrack to Phenomenon was ever released as a single or is available on any of her singles as extra tracks. I really love the song and I didn't want to buy the whole soundtrack at £16 just for the one song, but I will if its the only way I can get it. Anyway if anyone knows anything can you tell me, I would be very grateful. Also as I have just joined the list I regret that I wont or don't think I will be able to take part in the SJC project as I could not take the photograph develop it and send it within 8 days. But I reckon more of you should. It wont take much and it will look good when it is finished. Yes, you all read right. PRIZES!!! I will free-raffle off 10 rare postcards advertising PoY in Israel. It is not open to all, it is open to anyone who will have an entry in the birthday card. Do not email me about it. After the bithday card is finished, I'll ask Jenny to give me the names of everyone that participated, and I'll randomly draw 10 names from that list. It's a bit sad that I have to offer prizes for doing something that to me seems a bit like a prize in itself, but 15 people IS NOT ENOUGH!!!! The postcard has a picture of Jewel looking out a window wearing some kind of lingerie and is a really nice picture. Also, there is a female singers' collection CD that just came out in Israel and is very heavily advertised. It has Jewel singing FG on it. Maybe now people will begin to get familiar with her music... I hope. And then she might come to Israel when she tours Europe. Well, a girl can dream, can't she? The American Indian thing had a big > influence on me. >What was that about, anyway? >[Laughs] That’s what I’m talking about with me as a cartoon. I went to a > gathering when I was 16. You adopt the Indian way. >Everybody is your uncle or aunt. >How seriously did you take it? >It was serious for a while, but then it lost its usefulness. The comment about it losing its usefulness seems rather superficial, and "unJewel-like". Like her, I'm also a white person who was adopted by Indians (the Dine), and it also had a powerful influence on my spirituality. While I understand that people develop and change, the article portrayed this as if she threw away these traditions like a parking ticket. It would seem to me living with Indians would provide a spiritual foundation (albeit one of many) from which she could grow. While I think she acknowledges this, saying it "lost its usefulness" displays a unilateral relationship with the tribe and its traditions, rather than a symbiotic one. I won't get too uptight about this - I'm assuming (with good reason) that the statement was taken out of context, and probably was part of longer discussion that the editors or writer decided was irrelevant or took too much space. While I certainly hope my interpretation of her meaning is incorrect, I still accept that even if its not, we all have to make the choices that are right for us based upon our life experiences; I cannot judge her decisions based on my experiences. The problem with putting people on a pedestal is that we often forget that they are still fallible human beings. One of the worst things someone can do to you is not to live up to your expectations; these expectations are, like Daedelus, a labyrinth of our own design. My dear angels, Well hi all! I'm sorry to say that I will have to cancel this whole video thing if I don't get more people to participate. As of this moment, it is still possible to have a video, you just have a very limited time to make them and send it to me. Until next Wednesday (May 13)in fact. But if I don't have enough tapes by next Wednesday when Mr. Mailman brings the mail to my house, then there will be no video at all. Please e-mail me if you have a video or can make a video. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about- For Jewel's birthday, two gifts were decided upon. A birthday card and a video. For the video, individuals or groups of individuals were to record themselves saying happy birthday and whatnot on tape and send it in to me to have it edited onto one video to send to Jewel. I sincerely hope this can work out, but so far not very many people have showed interest in this project which makes me wonder why this was nominated as a birthday idea in the first place. My deepest regrets if this video goes to the can. But don't worry, I'm still smiling :) Love, Nancy the angel who breaks everything sometimes *butterfingers* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 May 1998 13:52:08 -0700 From: BenFrancis@webtv.net (Ben Simpelo) Subject: POY leaves the Billboard 200 After 110+ weeks and eight million units sold, POY has left the Billboard Top 200 album chart. For all you Americans (I'm from Europe - he,he!) here are all facts: - - The single contains three songs: 1. Radio Mix of "morning song" with extra-guitars by David Roth who remixed the song, 3:32 2. Album Version of "morning song" (like in POY), 3:35 3. Reggae Mix of "morning song" with additional guitars and bass, arranged my David Roth The last one is my favourite, 'cause there are a few clearer tones in it that give this song-remix a special feeling. But - You see, it's hard to describe. - - On the cover is a picture of Jewel looking in the camera with her right hand in her neck and the upper buutons of her blouse opened (No, not what you're still thinking !!!), besides her an orange-tree. - - Finally the most interesting point: Where to get it from ? Try www.telecd.com and you'll have it in two to five days. Bye! If you have the capabilities and the time, I suggest you do it, as it's certainly fun, and in my past experiences it builds friendships that makes the EDA gatherings and Living Room Tour shows that are quite common in the summer even more fun :-) Mike :-) EDAs, There are a few sites out there that have a chat room on their Jewel site. Me and a few other sites have teamed up together and have our chat rooms connected to each other. We desided to start a daily meeting time in the chat room for everyone, so I put up a quick poll on my page asking everyone what would be the best time to chat. The majority of the people favored from 9:00PM to 10:00PM CST. Below is the schedule for the different time zones in the United States, find your time zone and go to the chat room at the time listed by it to join in the fun: Eastern US Time Zone 10:00PM to 11:00PM Central Time Zone 9:00PM to 10:00PM Mountain Time Zone 8:00PM to 9:00PM Pacific Time Zone 7:00PM to 8:00PM We have had 3 new sites host our chat room since the last time we posted. There are now "nine" main sites that host this chat room: Raamy's Homepage- www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/2771/jewel.html That Angel Jewel- www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/1409/jewel.html Gerrit's Jewel Page- www.endor.org/jewel/ Pieces of Jewel- jewel.zoonation.com/ Foolish Games- www.nigmatech.com/jewel/ Jewel Standing By- www.infomagic.com/~doskocil/jewel/jewel.html God's Gift To Alaska- www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Backstage/9849/ Impala- www.geocities.com/~kilcher/ Planet Jewel- www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/1023/ Also, if you have a Jewel site and want to join us and host this chat on your site, you can go to any one of those sites and copy the HTML code for the chat room and you can copy the chat schedule so your visitors can know what time is best to be in there. But if you are going to help host this chat, please e-mail me at tannerevans@geocities.com and tell me that you are going to so we have an idea of who else is hosting and then your site will be advertised on here in our next post.
