Hey David and any other EDA's who might be wondering, At the Interlochen Arts Academy, Jewel got the lead in Spoon River Anthology. She played a dead woman who told stories from her grave. I personally have never heard of it, but I'm sure if Jewel was in it, it was wonderful. First of all, about the Dorky Chick of the Year thing (I know this post was awhile ago but I just got around to checking my mail today, sorry) but Jewel has worked harder touring her butt off in the past 3 years than this journalist will probably work in her entire lifetime. I think it is sad, though, that instead of doing an interview with good content she has to make up meaningless crap like this. She's giving journalism a bad name, let me tell you. Anyway, she's prolly just jealous that Jewel has gotten well earned attention this year. Sorry, Sara (I think that was the ladies name.) Anyway, in other useless ramblings, doesn't it make you mad how sometimes magazines will print stuff like "The New Jewel!"? It's just like, there will never be another Jewel. Girl+acoustic guitar+ voice+lyrics does not nessecarily equal Jewel! Why can't people get over this!? Jewel has worked hard for the attention she has gotten, and not just any new girl on the music scene deserves that title. I don't mean Jewel is just the best, she should be exalted and there will never be any female artist that will equal her, it's just that not everyone can be hailed as "The New Jewel." I hope I have makde my point and if not well that's nothing really new, usually no one understands me anyway. Basically what I'm saying is not just any girl on the music scene deserves to be the new Jewel just because they sound "like her" or they "have an acoustic guitar." Guess what! I play guitar, and I can't sing like Jewel, and I can't write like Jewel. O.k, I think I'm over it :o) Well, enough of me. Loveya~ Marisa Angel with a band aka angel with a crush ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Apr 1998 18:32:48 -0700 From: deanorez@juno.com (G Perez) Subject: Six Degrees of "You Make Lovin' Fun" I have no idea if this has already been said but the track was produced at Brilliant Studios by Norm Kerner who also produced Tara MacLean's "Silence" (Nettwerk) in the same studios. Tara made a special appearance at the Thanksgiving EDAF w/Jewel... Tara will be embarking on a tour w/Lisa Loeb beginning 4/23 in UT. Lisa Loeb's new singles "I Do" and "Let's Forget About It" (among others) were produced by Juan Patino who also recorded/mixed YWMFM (#1)... Shawn Colvin's re-working of "The Chain" on the Fleetwood Mac Tribute album was produced by Shawn's Grammy award winning collaborator John Leventhal. John also has worked with other talented musicians such as Patty Larkin, David Crosby, wife Roseanne Cash, and Jackson Browne on his wonderful 1993 album "I'm Alive" (Elektra). As many of you know, Jackson Browne played the Scarecrow on the "Wizard of Oz in Concert" w/Jewel. But I'm not done yet... "I'm Alive" also has such top-notch musicians as Benmont Tench and Jim Keltner who along with Van Dyke Parks appear on Steve Poltz's "One Left Shoe" (Mercury). That threesome also appear on Brian Wilson's "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" (MCA). [Brian Wilson happens to be an idol to Cindy Lee Berryhill (who is playing at Genghis Cohen Cantina in Los Angeles, 4/16)]. More yet, "I'm Alive and "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" were produced by Don Was who, besides being the producer of Jewel's "MTV Unplugged" was almost slotted to be producer of "Fitz Creek Store" (I think. Alan?)... Also on "One Left Shoe," long-time friend and ex-Rugburn (and my hero) Gregory Page appears on the song he co-wrote w/Steve, "The Great Mystery." Greg has his version of that same song on his upcoming record "A Long Way From Heaven" (which has Steve on backup vocals). Among the talented musicians on "A Long Way..." is violonist extradordanaire Lili Haydn who has worked with dozens of artists including Porno For Pyros,Tom Petty, and label-mate... Jewel. Also, "A Long Way..." is produced by X member John Doe. X appears on the "Beat the Retreat: Songs By Richard Thompson" tribute album with many talented artists including Shawn Colvin who will be playing in San Juan Capistrano 4/12-14 with Lisa Sanders who also appeared at the Thanksgiving EDAF w/Jewel and is a good friend of hers as well... and if you check out a Tara MacLean show you just may be lucky enough to hear a cover of Richard Thompson's "Dimming of the Day." ... I could go on but I think my brain just exploded. Best, Gerard ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Apr 1998 02:21:31 -0400 From: Allan Subject: Jewel in latest Spin Magazine ... For example, if you click on "WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL", you will see: The writer The lyrics An interpretation of the song by fans An interpretation of the song by Jewel {if one exists} A list of stories Jewel gave of the song before singing it/the history of it {for example, once she explained that this song was written for a man who had never walked on grass and another time she explained that it was about everyone looking to religion -- EXACT QUOTES} A list of all of the albums it is on {i.e. PIECES OF YOU} A list of all of the promos it is on {i.e. JUST PASSING THRU} A list of all the Angelfood it is on {i.e. RADIO ANGELS '96, GENESEO) I think we should have a big staff of researchers and do a song a week.
