Well anyway, I was at a music store the other day and I ran across the soundtrack for "Object Of My Affection", a movie I guess. She really hit it off with the Marley family. Jimmy Marley (Bob's 1st cousin & talented musician in his own right) & Lisa now plan on working together sometime soon. From their message (below), you'll see they had quite the mystical & spiritual experience! Lisa's manager, Sandy Troy (who some Deadheads might recognize as the author of the books "Captain Trips" & "One More Saturday Night") sent me this enjoyable "stream of consciousness" synopsis of their experiences this past weekend that I'd like to share with you. Make a point to check out Lisa on several of the upcoming Steve Poltz gigs. She's destined for big things! Enjoy! MrBB Date: Monday, March 30, 1998 10:31:53 AM From: Sandy Troy & Lisa Sanders Subj: Lisa Sanders Meets The Marleys To: MrBB Isn't life fine. Leaving L.A. at midnite. Taking the red-eye to Miami for a tropical respite. Jet-lagged upon arrival but ecstatic at the unfolding possibilities. Breakfast at the News Cafe in South Beach watching the world go by. 'Twas a Bloody Mary kind of morning. Lisa and I are having a blast in Florida! Lisa met the Marleys at the house where Bob Marley lived with "Mother B" (Bob's mother)' and she had the opportunity to play Bob Marley's guitar. What an amazing trip! Gold records dripping from the walls. "I walk down the beach, the ocean so blue as is the sky. Spotted a Jewel in the sand and she sang to me like an angel. And the sun beat down and there's a smile on my face. She touched my heart in the deepest place. Traveling down the road of life to meet destiny. Our guide of the hour, a kind and gentle soul, who opens the door to the magic garden. The mystery of life. Did I call you in the middle of the night?" (-- From Lisa's song entitled "Jewel", about Jewel Kilcher, which is on Lisa's "Isn't Life Fine" CD :) We arrive in a purple haze of bewilderment as the gates of paradise open for all to see. The Garden of Eden awaits us as we walk through the portal into the mystery. Life is funny that way. The holy man welcomes us to his Temple. Rastaman says: "Welcome lovely one." She smiles and says "It's good to be home." He brings out a snow white guitar and she knows every little thing in the world is alright. She sings "I spotted a Jewel in the sand and she sang to me and it touches me in the deepest place. The next thing I knew we were carried away into the jungle, with singing all around us. The sun beat down and there's a smile on my face. In my dreams did I cry out, did I call you, did we sing songs so dear to me that touch me in the deepest place?" There were dreams in my head! The angel flies and "Isn't Life Fine." The holy man chants that "He" is here now! The bird of paradise joins me in song. "One World, One Love!"-Bob Marley It is only then that we acknowledge the magic that IS within our reach. The African Princess meets the Prophet. "Isn't Life Fine." -Lisa Sanders ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 09:35:54 -0600 From: Michael Rusche Subject: Madonna's "Frozen"--a ripoff of Jewel? Has anyone else seen Madonna's "Frozen" video off of her album, because it seems to me to have a lot in common with Foolish Games. The whole thing is done in black-and-pale-green, there's a lot of closeups of a female singer and no one in the background at all. I was half expecting the kabuki dancers off Foolish Games to make an appearance in this video too :) If anyone has an opinion on this, please e-mail me. I'm interested to see what other people think about this. Anyway, it's probably a good thing, since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and if someone who's been around as long as Madonna has to rip off Jewel's ideas than it's just another sign that Jewel is big time (but we knew that anyway) :) mike rusche angel in training ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 10:25:20 EST From: TMiles1270 Subject: NJC: Re: Tin Angel Show in Philly Hey guys, Anybody else going to the show on Monday 4/13? Laine ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 12:54:26 -0600 From: Michael Rusche Subject: new marketing strategy? We seem to all be in agreement that Atlantic is trying to grub as much money out of POY as is humanly possible. Something I've noticed about the entertainment industry (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I think new work by an actor, musician, writer, or any other artist sparks renewed interest in that person's older works. So if Atlantic wants POY to make more money, they should released an album ASAP and get Jewel some more exposure. This will introduce more people to her music, not only the new album but POY as well, satisfying both us and them. - -- I realize that Jewel also needs time to record and right now she doesn't have that luxury; sorry if I seemed to be just rambling on mike rusche the frustrated angel in training ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 15:31:47 EST From: Mel Der I Subject: MTV Unplugged question Hey EDA's, I was just watching Jewel's MTV Unplugged performance on tape and I have a question. Right before she plays Angel Standing By, she says something, but I can't understand what she says. I'm guessing that it was some kind of joke, cause she sort of giggles and the audience kinda laughs. Anyone know? I'm writing because something real special happened today and I wanted to voice (to those that wish to hear) what occured. The postwoman crammed (small mailbox ;) an envelope into my box, and I think that maybe it changed some things for me. Within that battered envelope was a treasure beyond price, small rectagles of plastic and metal oxide, words, words, words, songs and poems of brightness and tragedy, with more hope than I'd thought possible. A noble lady with a guitar sings softly to me now, blending images and feelings into a unifed understanding. Trees and earth, this is healing art. Thank you for pouring to me from your full basket of light. Karel P.S. (OBexplaination) I _couldn't_ do the regular EDA thing for JewelStock, it seems too much like something for nothing. TANSTAFFL, you know? It takes energy, time, trust and caring to make such tapes for somebody you don't know at all other than as a collection of pixels glowing on a screen. I figure it is a Christian Thing to give it away, but it seems unfair to the giver, so I'll finish what I started if allowed and gave my sacred word to do. Balance is my issue here, the dance of give and take, a truly adult relationship rather than adult to child or rich to poor, a meeting of equals. With luck this meandering will make sense to someone here. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 13:47:56 PST From: "* Jewel *" Subject: first boyfriend? >She says that she inherited this campaigning >tolerance from her father, who, she relates >without irony, "cried with joy" when she >brought home her first boyfriend and he was >black. All you EDA's ought to try and get a listen. It differs from the folk in that it has a it of electronica, but is worth listening to.
