Oook, I couldn't go without writing for TOO long, now could I? I know someone said something about shutting up but I just want to say this :) so ignore it if you no longer care! First, my first reaction would be, "great! Tickets in advance!" And maybe for smaller fan club/lists in the area that Jewel was playing at the time that should be true. But for evryone....that'd be pretty selfish (in a bad way) of us, me, whatever.....Let's remember here that we are not the ONLY people out there who do good things for other people, and we are not the ONLY ones Jewel loves! Do you really honestly think that every one of the over 1,000 people on this list is true, wonderful, following the Jewel vision (sorry I forgot how one of you put it)? We're human, she's human. Linda said "There's a majority of people here who get very bad seats or none at all because people go to Jewel shows who aren't even true Jewel fans... " How do we know who's a "true fan" and who isn't??? I wasn't on this list till very recently and I was just as much of a Jewel fan as I am now. Just because someone is in a fan club or on a mailing list doesn't mean that they are "truer" or "better" than everyone else! Just like saying that my rich cousins should get into Harvard over me because they have more money (okay so maybe that was a bad analogy). But the point is, what business is it of ours to decide who is a true fan of Jewel and who isn't? To tell you the truth (not you in particular or only, Linda :) ), I think Jewel wouldn't be so hot on the idea that we want to priviledge ourselves over her other fans. After all, isn't she always telling us how grateful she is that we are not the gossipy type, and don't you think that included in her praise would be some "thanks for being giving, caring, generous and understanding Angels, too"? I don't think I'm putting this very well. Yes there are a lot of people on this list that are die-hard Jewel fans, probably just about everyone. But if everyone got first choice, how would new people who didn't know Jewel would ever have a chance to fall in love with her music? A concert is a wonderful way to do that. And if people didn't love or care about Jewel then why would they want to go to her concerts anyway? I'm sorry Linda had a bad experience and that stinks, but you're gonna find mean people everywhere, just ignore them (which I'm not so good at doing). I just think that all Jewel fans should have an equal chance of seeing her--maybe the people in the area that she's playing could have an early chance at tickets but still, take L.A., that's a pretty big preference range before the general public (fans) get it. I've never seen her and I'm surprised that some of you would even complain about the seats you've gotten, because to me you're lucky that you got to see her at all (since I haven't). I saw Alanis Morissette a few years ago, we called Ticketmasters for hours and finally got through. The seats weren't great but the music was, and we had a great time anyway--it didn't matter. Lone Wolf said: "While there may be 1500 or so people on this list, you figure that averages out to 30 or so per state, (obviously this varies with states like california)- but to put aside a block of 50 or so tickets for EDAs at each show isnt going to take up every good seat- just a few :)" Pretty good idea, if it worked....But still, I'm in California, and it's kind of unfair....L.A. is enormous! Sam moonsong@ix.netcom.com ******************************** From: Matt 20005 Subject: Tickets I'm new at this and haven't been around long but I've been reading what people have to say about getting tickets early cause we belong to this list. I personally think that that would be unfair to all the people who love Jewel's music but are unable to get Internet access. Some people have said that we are better people than others...perhaps they should listen to Jewels music more closely. Matt ******************************** From: Jason Keis - DRulz X-Sender: jkeis@amanda To: Jewel Mailing List Subject: Me? A True Fan? Not at all... :) Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Hello fellow EDAs ;) Well, I could see a few issues arose on the mailing list, one being who is a true fan and who is not... what makes someone "special"... and what makes someone "worthy" enough to be given the consideration of giving early tickets or backstage passes to. I saw Jewel's WWSYS video a few years ago, and I loved it. Unfortunately, I really didn't see any of her other videos on MTV, partly because I hardly watch MTV. But anyway, about two weeks ago I purchased her POY album, and since then, I've been playing it constantly - at night when I go to sleep, every morning when I go to school, and every evening when I go home from work. About *three* weeks ago, I had Dream Theater, Metallica, and Manowar (all heavy metal bands) in my walkman. However, let me also add that give or take 5 years ago, I listened to Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Cat Stevens, and a whole mess of other oldies/folk bands my mother brought me up on.. :) I really don't care to consider myself a true fan of Jewel even though I can't resist her music ;) I love her music. I love a lot of music. I consider msyelf to be a fan of music as an artform, as a means of expression, and also a means of obtaining a psychological natural high... who needs pot anyway? :) I don't think any of us are more special than any other on this list. We are all here to come together to enjoy each other's 'net company and to share a common interest... and that is Jewel. There's one other thing I can say, however, about everyone on this list... ... you all have great taste :) So let's lay back, listen to someone I strongly feel who is excellent for our souls, someone whose voice warms our hearts, someone who is not only cute and beautiful on the outside, but also very cute and beautiful on the inside... And the name of this someone is... Jewel Kicher. I agree with this. I mean, I know a lot of really "true" Jewel fans who don't have access to a computer. They don't know about the Everyday Angels. That doesn't mean that we, the EDAs, are a "truer" Jewel fan than them and should get all these special priviledges that we make up ourselves. That's just really greedy. >PixieFuel wrote: > Yes but I believe we ARE special and we do deserve early tickets because WE > are who Jewel loves. And what? These other people aren't special? Just because they're not an oh-so great and most deserving EDA like us, they don't deserve the special priviledges that we'll make up for ourselves? >PixieFuel wrote: >We do good thigns for everyone else around us and live > up to our names as Every Day Angels. And they don't? Some newbies, I'm sure, feel a little left out when they join the list. I mean we always talk about things that they don't know a thing about. They, of course, have no idea what's been going on. So they ask questions and sometimes they get rude answers from other EDAs. We begin to isolate ourselves then. The others that we isolate ourselves from don't think too highly of us, like we do of ourselves. So if we do get these special priviledges, what will others think? What will others, who probably have done more than we have, think of us? Just because we're EDAs doesn't mean we do more than others. It's then we begin to isolate ourselves. The others that we isolate ourselves from don't think too highly of us, like we do of ourselves... >PixieFuel wrote: >Jewel loves that fact alone. Yeah, to us. Obviously... It's not fair to others. Not everyone has access to being on the EDA list. Not everyone will have time to read/write to it. Sometimes, not even Jewel herself. Give everyone...EVERYONE those kind of priviledges. Tell them, "Hey, you want to be an oh-so-special and deserving EDA? Join the list. You've got the time; you've got the equipment." Then you'll see who the "true" fans are. When you know who ALL the "true" fans, then start talking about getting special priviledges. >PixieFuel wrote: > ANother argument.. The Distant Angel, ******************************** From: Skye O1 Subject: true fan i just want to say that there is actually no meaning to a true fan. just because someone can not afford the internet, the computer, or is not an EDA, dosen't mean that the person is not a true fan. i've been a fan since '94, and i didn't get the internet until december, but didn't become an EDA (by computer) until a couple of weeks ago. before i had the internet i still considered myself as an EDA, and i am not trying to put the people down who are describing a "true fan". out of all this, i am just trying to say that i know some people who want to be an eda, but don't think they can because they don' t have the internet. but they still write to jewel by snail mail everyday. just remeber the meaning of what EDA is; what we are. we are not people who should be put in priority because we are apart of a jewel fan club that jewel recognizes herself. i feel that we should sit and think for awhile about what everyday angel means, and if you still feel that it should be that we are prioritzed because we are EDA's, then i don't think that you are a "true fan" and you are really selfish. if you have any problems or you don't like my posting please contact me at skye o1@aol.com skye the newbie angel \o/ /_\ ******************************** From: moonsong@ix.netcom.com (Charlie, Sami, Cobby) Subject: mike's comments I just wanted to say I really loved reading Mike's opinions on all this, the "true fans" thing, etc. I don't really remember now what I said about this, I still think that you're not a truer fan just because you're on a list. It's great that Jewel has a place for us in her heart and that's a nice thing to know....But don't you think she'd have a special place in her heart for other fans as well, not totally favoring one over the other? And it's also nice that she felt that EDA's helped her through harder times....Though doesn't she need many more fans than are on this list to keep her going (as in fame, etc.), hence my thing about us not being the only one. But also I really still don't know what to think about the tickets thing! Since I have no idea how many people in what areas would go to the shows I really couldn't say (and since I've only been to a few concerts I don't really know the numbers). But if it's a huge amount of people I'd hate to think that some other die-hard Jewel fans *not* on this list wouldn't have as great of a chance of going. Little amnts. of people, great. I sure would love to go to a Jewel concert. I just think that, say, if EDA's in huge cities like LA got advanced tickets then....well you know what I think. BTW if I flamed anyone, sorry. . . . Sam moonsong@ix.netcom.com ******************************** From: Love1612 Subject: This whole tickets thing Okay- I wanna say hi and blah blah blah, well I just finally got to come back into the internet land and got to read my Jewel-digest and then I saw a post about getting early Jewel tickets. I thought wow- great! But, then, there's always somebody(no offense to anyone) that wants to disagree- which is okay and everything and they kinda wake everyone up I guess.(This is a good thing people.) But then we all get into this big thread(which I guess I'm continuing- being as much as a hipocrit as I am) Well the first few digests that I got- I was thinking of replying to it and saying- wow we haven't flamed eachother for a while let's celebrate! (Even though this really isn't flaming.) But everything that the person said about the EDA's how poor some Jewel fan can be or how blind or other handicap the person can have is always true and always will be true. So it's a problem that may not ever be solved- so those of us that can(being kinda selfish now) the tickets early and CAN talk to eachother and HAVE a computer to find all this out, should get the tickets. But it is true that there are other Jewel fans out there that are not that privelaged but as adults have taught me- Life's not Fair but then again you live to prove your parents and teachers wrong.
