I have added some new features to my Jewel site, Planet Jewel. First of all, I added a link page for Guitar Tabs. I have had requests to add Guitar Tabs to my page, but since I don't have a clue how to read guitar music sheets, I can't do an efficiant job of making them...so I made a link page. Then I added music to my page. When you make your choice of Frames or No Frames, a pop-up window will appear asking you if you want to listen to some music...if you click yes you will be given a variety of different MIDI songs of Jewel's. If you click no it will simply close the window and you can get on with surfing the site. If you go to my page, please don't forget to sign the Guestbook! Plus, if she did put out another album now, she would have to start the grueling proccess of supporting it, touring and doing the rounds of TV and radio shows again. And I get the impression that she wants to, well not take a break, since she still seems to be pretty busy with the film and other projects, maybe just take a break from the music routine. As I've said many times before, the sessions from Bearsville 96 will likely not be used. Those sessions no longer reflect where Jewel is at & well over 150 new songs have been written since then. Now onto many of your specific other questions: <> New sessions for Jewel's second album should begin shortly after her movie obligations are fulfilled. (in a few months). <> Yes, this is a possibility although certainly not definite. <> That has not been determined. <> Jewel's poetry book ("A Knight Without Armor") is finished. The publisher, Harper-Collins, will be announcing a release date soon. It is expected to be in stores within a few months. (I think they are shooting for end of May/early June.) <> No. <> No <> Jewel may participate in some Lilith Fair dates although none are scheduled presently. <> I have digitally remastered Mossy (Davidson) Kilcher's long out of print double album from 1977 & we are discussing making a CD available through the website. This was remastered from mint-condition vinyl as the master tapes are long gone, but it still sounds quite nice & has a lot of charm. <> Recently, the 15 ips Master reels for both of these albums were found. They are here & I'll be in the studio next weekend digitally remastering both of them from the original master tapes. There are no plans to rerelease these but it is not out of the realm of future possibility. <> Actually several: March 17th- Steve Poltz solo album "One Left Shoe" on Mercury Records This includes 4 songs co-written with Jewel, 2 of which she is prominently featured. March 17th- "Rumors Revisited" Fleetwood Mac Tribute CD on Mercury Records Jewel does "You Make Lovin Fun" April 28th- Lilith Fair 97 2CD set on Arista Records in the USA & Nettwerk in Canada. I don't know about non-North American releases. Tracklisting not yet finalized. <> March 18th. She's doing prep/rehearsal work now. <> I don't know. Like many of you, I signed up to do one, but have not heard back & am patiently waiting for info from Steve's management. <> Yes, this is likely & I'll certainly be involved again, particularly with East Coast activities. I'm also discussing with Cindy Lee Berryhill, the possibility of doing a larger East Coast gig similar to Java Joe's EDA Thanksgiving Bash immortalized on the "Future Folklore Volume 3" tape.>> <> Point your browser to: http://www.angelfoodbank.org/ I think that about covers things for now. Sorry it took so long to get these out....I took my computer in for surgery today and there were complications ;-) - - Mike :-) ******************************** From: GirrlyMan Subject: early tickets i personally think that early tickets would be great. We can't help it that not everyone has internet access, just as we can't help it that "none Jewel fans" win tickets that are better than our own. So why should we really care about everyone else? We can't always help everyone. Its like a special bonus for taking the time and being a member of this fan club. I think people went to far with the "blind" thing. Thats all i have to say. Joe - "The Insane Angel" ******************************** From: "Jay C. Johnson" Subject: early tickets This is my one and only post on this subject. If you want to make a logical argument or agreement with anything I say, email me personally, I'm always interested in other's views. If you want to flame me, go ahead and I'll read it and delete it without anyfurther thought. Yes, it would be cool if we could get earlier tickets. But I don't think we should really demand them, or anything from Jewel for that matter. I mean people complain that she should pay more respect for fans, she should sing something besides Foolish Games on TV, she should release an album now, and what not. Artists and celebrities don't "have" to do anything for their fans. I know, at least in my case, that I have gotten so much more from Jewel than I have ever given. What have I done? I've given a bit of money for the CD and some other merchandise, and I have contributed in a very small way to her being able to make a living doing what she likes to do. And I've gotten countless hours of wonderful music and poetry, and all the good things that she does that I can't put into words. Compare this to what she has given to her fans. She spends a good majority of her time making music and doing all the other stuff that comes with being a famous musician that I am not going to go into, because frankly I don't really know what it is like. I think that one of the worst things that happens in a relationship between people (what I mean by that is any interaction amongst more than one person, be it fans-perfomer, friends, or whatever) is when they start to expect to get something in return. Rewards and other good things are always better when unexpected. If you think you should get something, then you aren't very happy when you do get it. You're just satisfied, and even then you will soon want more. So, I know I've gotten more than I ever expected from Jewel (I expected to get a CD that was worth the $2 for shipping&handling from one of those "buy 11 for $0.01" deals). Everything good that comes from it beyond that has been, as they say, "gravy" :o) (and someday, I may actually be able to see her in concert the next time she tours through the midwest, or if I am able to travel further). (now expecting things from yourself is totally different and essential towards acheiving anything, but I won't go into that here) Just my thoughts, sorry to ramble. These people know more about Jewel, hear more about Jewel, think more about Jewel, and feel more when they hear Jewel. The other people have only heard Pieces of You and maybe a bootleg or two. Jewel is just a singer, only plays music. To many of the people who read the list, she is their life. It's not about BEING on the mailing list, it's what the list has done to put Jewel into our lives and our hearts. If people lose out on that because they don't have a computer, then there's nothing we can do. But, at the same time, a lot of people do care a LOT about Jewel and I doubt there aren't many people who can go beyond that. I know a lot of people who claim to be Jewel fans and they don't even have "Pieces of You". I am sure there is somebody out there who isn't an EDA but who listens to POY every night and collects articles on Jewel, etc. While they are still considered a true fan because of their love for Jewel, there is still a lot of things that only the list can contribute and without that, it's hard to really understand why Jewel is so amazing to all of us. I don't know how to close this e-mail. I am just trying to say that it's not fair that you have to have a computer in order to be a part of this community, but that is the only way we can communicate, and thus, without the computer, it's hard for people to really know Jewel. What I'm basically saying is it's not fair to them, but having a computer is sometimes mandatory for really, REALLY *loving* Jewel. * The Sullen Angel * ******************************** From: PixieFuel Subject: Early Tickets I know for a fact that everyone here deep down wants early tickets but their guilty consciences are telling them "no, bad! bad!" because not everyone is getting treated equally. YES PLEASE NOW! :) ttyl -linda the lovable angel ******************************** From: Steven Subject: Re: Early Tickets Look here, didn't anyone read my message. Fan clubs shouldn't only be EDAs on this list, many bands include that information on their CD liner notes or their webpage. That should help cover everyone, including no internet access people. If you want to be picky, how about people with no money to see concerts... it will always be unfair to someone. But I think it's worth a couple of extra bucks to get first dibs. I mean, how hard is it to have a fan club and distribute order forms for tickets. It shouldn't take 8 months. And to counter scalping, bands like Pearl Jam print the person's name on the tickets. Then you need to persent ID at the door, and only one person needs to have the same last name as on the ticket. That should cover parents who buy tickets for their kids. Yeah sure, it takes a little longer to check IDs, but it's worth it to combat scalping. Sure, it's premature to get all riled up about this since Jewel isn't touring, but this may be the only way Jewel can come anywhere close to a Jewelstock-type concert. I'm sick of getting good tickets only to sit next to SCREAMING, DRUNK radio station ticket winners. I'm generalizing, but it happened to me!!! - -Steve ******************************** Subject: Re: early tickets for the "true fans" From: park.place@juno.com (Henry S Park) Hallo, this is the first time I'm posting on one of these list arguments. I agree with Paul on everything. There are over 7 million Jewel fans who aren't on this mailing list. POY sold close to 8 million right? There is one thing that confuses me though; What about those "secret" Jewelstock tapes (and I'm sure there are more "secret" recordings) which are only meant for people on this list as a gift from Jewel? People with computers & internet access will be the only ones allowed to get these high quality recordings ... which IMO kinda sucks for the fans w/o these priviledges. There are millions of Jewel fans who would die (well not really) to get those recordings. People on this list say that everyone is supposedly an "EDA" (on this list or not) ... well then... Henry ******************************** From: DmBear978 Subject: Early Ticket Thread and a "true fan"(long) Hi All, Woe! I wasn't expecting my response to snowball into this heated debate. First off, everybody has the right to say what they want here and I'm not going to bash anybodys opinion. Keep the flaming private. Enough said on that. Realistically, I think that the privlege advance ticket has worked in the past with other big name bands(i.e. Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam) from what Im hearing. I'd saying experiment with it, cause we never know if we never try. Since Jewel has become a "pop icon" and the EveryDay Angels being the very known internet mailing list and *unoffical* fan club, we have had in the past some privleged performances by Jewel.(Im going on a tangent here :) A good amount of us(including me) weren't on the list when JewelStock happened back in '96(its '96 right?) when there were two days/nights of 100% home-grown Jewel music. I know how we all wish for a second JewelStock to part the El Nino skys and fall to the earth. Soorrry, it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. About the true fan thing. I really find that hard to swallow...gotta choke it down. I think a true fan is somebody who will listen to an Artist whether they sound like crap or not. There have been true fans that have crossed that line between fantasy and reality. They really boarder on the line of obsessive. A bit extreme and very out there. My point is(in case you've gotten lost) is that a fan can be anybody who bought the POY CD, a singles CD or a CD with a Jewel song on it or just plain listened to a song Jewel sang and though "I like this girl". Anybody can be a fan of anybody. Make sense? GpA -- Guitar playin Angel Alex =) ******************************** From: Mbryteyes Subject: Fans..Tickets, etc Hello Everyone, My thoughts on this whole thing. First of all, whoever said that being fans gave anyone special privileges? Why should anyone think that Jewel should reward them just because they belong to a list or are her fans? Seems to me, if you are someone's fan, hearing their music or whatever, is reward enough. We enjoy Jewel as she is. In fact, being part of the list alone is all anyone needs. Mr. BB posts tour dates for us before the rest of the world knows where Jewel will be, he keeps us posted on events to come...Why can't this be enough? What do want now? What if we did have a chance to get tickets ahead of time? There would people joining the list who only would want what they could get..privileges or whatever..and can you imagine the number of posts from these people everyday that said, "Okay, how do I get tickets?" Really imagine. It would ruin the list, or what the list was originally supposed to accomplish. If Jewel decided on a Jewelstock type of event, thats a completely different thing altogether. No one else but us would really know, and if they did, so what? Let's not get possessive. Let's not get greedy. Jewel's music is for everybody. I know for a fact that it annoys me, if I get tickets for something, and the first 10 rows are reserved...How many rows would the people on the list fill at any given concert? And if outside people knew, I bet alot of them just wouldn't bother going. Those are my thoughts. Melissa Angel with Bright Eyes ******************************** From: Jason Keis - DRulz Subject: Me? A True Fan? Not at all... :) Hello fellow EDAs... Well, I could see a few issues arose on the mailing list, one being who is a true fan and who is not... what makes someone "special"... and what makes someone "worthy" enough to be given the consideration of giving early tickets or backstage passes to. I saw Jewel's WWSYS video a few years ago, and I loved it. Unfortunately, I really didn't see any of her other videos on MTV, partly because I hardly watch MTV. But anyway, about two weeks ago I purchased her POY album, and since then, I've been playing it constantly - at night when I go to sleep, every morning when I go to school, and every evening when I go home from work. About *three* weeks ago, I had Dream Theater, Metallica, and Manowar (all heavy metal bands) in my walkman. However, let me also add that give or take 5 years ago, I listened to Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Cat Stevens, and a whole mess of other oldies/folk bands my mother brought me up on.. :) I really don't care to consider myself a true fan of Jewel even though I can't resist her music ;) I love her music. I love a lot of music. I consider msyelf to be a fan of music as an artform, as a means of expression, and also a means of obtaining a psychological natural high... who needs pot anyway? :) I don't think any of us are more special than any other on this list. We are all here to come together to enjoy each other's 'net company and to share a common interest... and that is Jewel. There's one other thing I can say, however, about everyone on this list... ... you all have great taste :) So let's lay back, listen to someone I strongly feel who is excellent for our souls, someone whose voice warms our hearts, someone who is not only cute and beautiful on the outside, but also very cute and beautiful on the inside... And the name of this someone is... Jewel Kicher. All You Need is Love, Jason Keis aka DRulz ******************************** From: Chaplain Dan Subject: Re: Early Tickets In terms of early tickets, so far I have seen that it doesnt matter if you are a true fan(of course that depends on your definition). What does matter in some cases is internet access(which a lot of people do not have). I have a feeling that for fans or a groups to get early tickets, teh artist or band has to be well established in the record business and have the power to tell there record company what they would like to see happen. To give you an example the group Styx this past summer offered Golden Circle tickets through their web page. These tickets were for the first several rows at each concert. They were offered only through the official web page of the band. (mind you I missed out on this deal because I didnt know about it until to late) These were prime seats for a very good price. Now Styx has been well known for over 25 years and has a well established fan base. They have also been very strong with their record companies in terms of getting deals that they want. Jewel on the other hand has been around since '95 and was struggling for the first few years of her career. Jewel has also only produced one album while these other groups have several. Styx has about 11 or 12, Bush I believe 2 or 3 and so forth. Now I (my humble opinion) dont think that Jewel or Lenendra have the power to dictate to Atlantic quite yet that they would like to see special deals for the Everyday Angel mailing list. Considering how easy it is for people to join it is not that hard to understand why Atlantic would rather not give special deals. Look how much they would have to pay to get these specials at every venue. While Jewel has done very well with the single album she has recorded(even though another one has not been put together as of yet) and had on the market, for the early tickests and other deals, several albums need to do well. With only one album out there, she just does not have the drawing power that we know she has. We did get a special time in the summer of '96 with Jewelstock, and I am not sure of the exact details of how it came about, but that was a special occasion. THe pros of being an EDA are the free tapes of live performances of Jewel and artists from around the country, the community of people that we have gotten to know through this special connection, and the experiences of helping are fellow man with little smiles and services. Examples are the EDA Foundation which we started, the guy in San Diego we helped(Forgive me but I forgot his name) and the plant a tree project we started in each state. For what we do, I can understand that you would like a freebie of seeing her in concert, but remember that the actions we do are not in expectation of repayment. When you do a selfless act of service do you expect a reward or is the actual act good enough? It ought be able to fill you with a sense of well being for just the act. So in essence what I am saying, Jewel does enough for what she can do. With all the we do, we should not expect anything for at least a little while longer. If you feel that this is wrong email me privately and take it off the list. We have had enough posts on this subject already. Thank you and good day.
