"behave baby" ahhahaha...anyways, moving on to hte non-Jewel parts, I think the Wu-Tang guy was funny! I mean I know it was annoying and stuff but oh well. It put some spunk into the show...along with our Soy Bomb friend...now that was a Kodak moment folks! Sure that was annoying...but you have to admit it was funny! In a demented sort of way....I have to agree with Kelsey Gramar when he said that we wouldn't be seing Maralin Mansons Bony white *** on stage! Hehehe. Waht's this? No Spice Girls!? The El Nino Angel ~~Richard~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 01:46:42 -0500 From: Burkeman Subject: Three years of Pieces of You and still going strong Well it's February 28, at least for those of us on the eastern half of the country. Three years ago today, the album that changed all of our lives was released, Pieces of You. Where was Jewel then, and where is she now? Technically, she was in New York playing a regular gig like she had been the previous couple weeks along the east coast, and I have no clue where she is right now. In terms of album sales, Pieces of You sold a handful on this day three years ago when it was released. Exactly a year later, it entered the Billboard top 100 and has stayed there for two years, or 104 weeks in Billboard lingo. The single Foolish Games/YWMFM was on the Billboard charts for 6 1/2 times as long as the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love." Pieces of You is pushing 10 times platinum worldwide in what was seemingly an exponential climb of sales. What's the point? First of all, congratulations to Jewel, on the third anniversary of the releasing of her blockbuster debut album. Congratulations to the EDAs who have been there from the beginning to support her. Three years ago there were roughly 20-25 members of this list. Now we're somewhere around 1500, I'm told. The more populous we become, the more support we are able to give Jewel! So Happy Birthday to Pieces of You. The twos were far from terrible, and we have a wonderful new chapter hopefully coming our way soon :) - -tim 'burkeman' ______ ____ ____ / ____/ / __ \ / | Tim Burke / __/ / / / / / /| | tb340297@oak.cats.ohiou.edu / /___ / /_/ / / ___ | /_____/ /_____/ /_/ |_| "I am a worm." -Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 09:47:31 -0600 (CST) From: mcg@umr.edu Subject: Re: Jewels new album A couple days ago, Dark Seraph posted a message wich says that he knows a lot of casual Jewel fans who may not buy FCS because they'll get bored waiting for new stuff to come out. While this is probably true, there is an easy way to keep them from getting bored--give them Angelfood! :) This will give them new stuff to listen to, and maybe get a few of them to become EDAs. Just a thought, Palantir the Trekker Angel 0:P PS If you don't have any angelfood, Re: privately and I'll help you get some. Jewel specifically says, on the rare angels tape i think, that there was a line from a Pablo Neruda poem that had a blue guitar in it, and that was what stuck out in her head, I never heard anything about Hughes, although you could be right. It looks like a quick biography about the lives of several musicians before they made it big. Jewel was mentioned, and they even showed her high school yearbook photo. The show airs tonight (Saturday, 2-28-98) at 9pm (pacific) on VH-1. Sinjin ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 17:18:47 EST From: VampSlayr6 Subject: NJC: KC Area EDA's Hi! Some others might want to know too, so if someone has a web page and wants to post a picture of him I can send you a snapshot(s) of him from the E! interview. I can snap some of Jewel too. Also, I can make a .wav file of the interview if you're interested. This way, those her missed the interview and who have access to the WEB can listen to it and see some pictures. I can't do movie files. I should make my own stupid little web page for stuff like this, but I'm too lazy. If someone has a web page and is willing to post this, please e-mail me privately. Thanks! Ok, I went to Camelot and was of course looking through their singles and looked extra close through the “J”s. I saw Jem, and it made me think back to the person who posted...Anyway, think of this as a review....heh. I really like club mixes and dance mixes A LOT.... This is a very good club mix of Foolish Games, in my opinion... People may not like it because they are impersonating Jewel, but if I was a good singer (yeah, right ;-) and I was mocked by Weird Al Yanchovik or someone, I would take that as a HUGE compliment that someone took the time to transform my lyrics...heh. I think Jewel gives Foolish Games more feeling to it, but Jem gives it a more upbeat...It is almost Ironic, because Jewel wrote it and it seems depressing, and Jem sings it and its upbeat and almost given a happy mood with the music beat.. Heh...Anyway, that's how I feel about it. BTW, I have a few questions.. 1. What are some good narative songs by Jewel? What about grudge...not grunge, but grudge...like Alanis Morissette...Does Jewel have any grudge songs? 2. Are Paula Cole's songs grudge, because I listen to them and they sound like it in the lyrics, and in most of the songs, the piano is played violently ("Throwing Stones") but then in "Where Have All the Cowboys gone?" it is like Foolish Games sung by Jem...it is about her being wined dined, and sixty-nined and left, yet it's given an upbeat tune...heh. Anyway...Reply if you want delete it if you want, just whatever ^_^.. Oh, and for the poll I did, email me if you want the results.... heh. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 18:28:28 EST From: LOVE1618 Subject: howdy all I feel like I am being a nudge, but I am a new Gal with questions on her mind! If you don't care what I think about this year's Grammy Awards than skip this cause it's rather long and I even shortened it in half! :) I just saw the short version of Grammys on our National TV... Lucky for me I knew all the winners, cause they left out some really important ones... it was about 1h 40min long, but still enough to see: "Soy Bomb" and laughing my ass off seeing it... I still don't know the meaning of that... I thought they cut off Shawn Colvin's speech when that WU TANG CLAN member started his - whatever that was... I think he said at the end..."Puffy is good but WU TANG is the best!"... when I realised he wasn't exactly planned to perform :) For god sakes it's the Grammys - how can they allow such anarchy :)) Also very much noticable was of course the beautiful image of our Jewel... WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT - Her hair looked WONDERFUL! In my opinion there was only one person that matched her beauty and that was Vanessa Williams... but that is actually reasonable since she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen and only her voice can top that... I wish V. perfored one of her songs... but then again I was sure Jewel would perform... :(... And another thing that was noticable--- Paula Cole didn't shave under her arms... :((... yet the dress she accepted award in (red) was WOW! Anyways... there were lots of great performances--- I liked every single one of them except that sort of medley of best female nominees... I think that was a waste of awesome songs cause I really love all three. There were some disappointments... Bob Dylan probably won too much... (Radiohead deserved that BEST ALBUM...) Jewel not winning anything as well as No Doubt... I was upset One Headligt wasn't nominated for best song and best record... CAUSE IT IS!!(so among the nominees Sunny Came Home was the best) But winning both Rock awards settled me down a bit as did the Radiohead winning best Alternative and Smashing Pumpkins winning an award this year too... this time for best Hard Rock song, their new album comes out in May so they'll be serious candidates next year as well! And one of the most beautiful songs ever winning best Country Song Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle... I wish he performed as well! Celine Dion got the crowd nuts, but she'll get a Grammy or two for it next year as will James Horner. Ok I think that's it... Grammys through my eyes... I was 100% sure only for one award and that was for Best New Artist... cause Paula Cole had most (7) nominations and was also among new artist nominees so there was no way it could lose. So that's my opinion on that... I'll be babbling soon on Jewel's new album release.... on that note just to mention (since some mentioned Alanis Morrisette) that Alanis won LONG FORM MUSIC VIDEO grammy for her Jagged Little Pill, Live :)) So she is still out there as much as she is still playing on my stereo quite often!!! :) bye - -- Dr. RomeAntic, an angel with the worse stroke of luck "I'm 32 flavors and then some I'm taking my chances as they come I'm 32 flavors and then some I'm nobody but I am someone!" I got my POY Vinyl in the mail from home after a six month wait while the store tried to track one down for me. Imagine my surprise when they called and said, "Hey, Todd, that album you ordered in August... It's in. We'll mail it to you." So, I got it and managed to track down a record player here on campus. And was I pleasantly surprised... I just sat there in the cozy library and listened and remembered the first time I heard POY on cassette. I also realized its been a long time since I really sat down and listened to POY in any medium. What a wonderful piece of work. So, I encourage all of you who are waiting on Angelfood, or even those of us that have Angelfood, put it away and listen to POY again. Really listen. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. And, in a side note, the Jewel webisode in Mediadome has been down for a while...
