I know that there are a lot of Sarah Mclachlan fans on this list too, and I just saw a commercial on VH1 advertising Storytellers on Sarah this Saturday . Storytellers is a 2hour special where the artist is on an intimate setting, talking and playing their songs. It definite is something everyone should watch. It's on this Saturday at 10pm on VH1. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 20:39:57 -0000 From: Dennis Winderbank Subject: Angelfood in the UK??? Hiya! I have read all the posts on angelfood etc, and I love the idea! But are there any EDAs in the UK willing to copy angelfood for a poor starving angel ??? All the addresses of angelfood "distributers" (we really need a name for them :-)); which I've seen all sound American, and as such, I can't really send postage etc to get the tapes back to the UK :-(. My E-mail is donna@ravenbridge.demon.co.uk; (I use my Father's address for the list cause he's taking a year off dead for tax reasons :-)). As many of you know, Jewel's favorite album growing up was "Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Cole Porter Songbook". Late last year Ella's label back then, Verve, remastered those recordings for the first time from the actual masters. Now, not only do they sonically blow away any previous versions, but both volume 1 & 2 of "EFSTCPS" is in a nice 2 CD package & includes a few alternate takes previously unissued. It's really a nice little package. I picked it up a few months ago & have been really enjoyiong it. Jewel & Lenedra both picked it up a few days ago. If you're already hip to Ella, you'll love the upgraded versions & if youre simply curious which album most influenced Jewel vocally, this is it. (It also contains the definative version of "Too Darn Hot") Previous inferior versions of these albums are still in stock at a lot of stores, so if you want this, make sure its Verve Records catalogue # 314 537 257-2. (Note: this is a Verve item #, NOT a phone # to order! Any respectible CD store can order it for you) Make sure its the 1997 Master Edition release with that item #. Hope this helps some of you. If you're in the area & can make it, you'll be awfully glad you did! This a great double bill for all Pop fans! The following Friday evening, March 6th, CLB will be performing in Los Angeles at Genghis Cohen on North Fairfax. She'll also be one of several great musicians participating in a "Songwriters in the Round" performance at Cafe de Nord in San Franscico on March 27th for area folks who want to plan ahead. I have no other info (& am on the opposite coast) so please call the actual clubs for more info. If any California EDAs still don't know why CLB is so incredible, here's more opportunities. If you go to Java Joe's Saturday, say hi to Sound-Wizard Wendy for me. :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 15:13:20 -0500 From: "Greg Brown" Subject: Jewel on Grammies In the TV guide it says Jewel will be performing at the Grammies... I personally thought it was dastardly horrible and I don't think the person should have tried to demote Jewel into "childish" terms. I mean ok maybe I need to clarify myself Jewel is deep.. the author left out a lot of Jewel things in there that make her herself. I also though the whole Gemini horoscope chapter could have been left out. I was rather disgusted that they turned the book into a teen magazine paperback and stuff. Not to mention they did name and numerology analysis. The only thing I thought was cool was that since I'm a Gemini too i learned all this stuff about myself I already knew Anyway a lot of it was pointless.. All the author did was use quotes from Jewel in other publications and used things from the FAQ. Her way with words was redundant "At the time this book went to press..." was used like 9,238,409,248 times.. (maybe not that much but i am exaggerating) Anyway, the pictures were great but I've seen them all before. In personal terms :) I think I would have written a much better biography. And hell, maybe one day I'll get to write the authorized version. In other Jewel news... or questions.. ANY NEW NEWS WHEN DISKIE NUMBER 2 COMES OUT? :) Oh yeah a cutesie experience.. today in adv. ceramics i was rushing for the tape player to pop in my copy of Ani DiFranco's "Little Plastic Castle" and found out the tape was broken :( And then me and this yuppie kid were arguing over Rap or Alternative and we decided on z100 which is in between Jewel came on... And I sang and he stopped me and asked "Who sings this?" and I said "Jewel" and he said "You should keep it that way" so what did I do? I kicked him hard where men hurt. The teacher laughed so that was good.. It isn't really a surprise that she ended up in a children's book, although I would prefer a more mature book. But think of it this way...Jewel brings forth a message of hope and inspiration. Well everyone, about a week ago, I posted inquiring about who was the youngest and who was the oldest EDA on the list. I did get numerous responses and it turns out that our youngest angel (that I heard from) is Christa the Sunshine Angel at a whopping 11 years old!!!! Now, I must say I am a little disappointed because I did not hear from any of our older and wiser EDA's. I remember a couple of weeks ago that a couple people posted saying they were in their forties. However, I heard only from our younger EDAs. Now, don't be bashful friends! Don't be ashamed of your age! I would very much appreciate it if some of you responded so we could see who is wisest among us! Also, if anyone is younger than 11 feel free to email me!
