From:ABershaw@aol.com To: Mad-Mission@smoe.org Subject:The Album is done!/Lilith CD/Iron Horse Hi, To elaborate a little on what Rachel already posted, Patty was wonderful tonight, as usual, & that incredibly beautiful song she said she wrote for her valentine is called "Go Now". And here's some very interesting info. The new album will be called "Flaming Red" & it was officially finished (as in final mix) today! Hoot! Cheer! Patty said hopefully a June release. And speaking of releases, on April 28th a two CD set of Lilith Fair 98 will be released & does include Patty. Her contribution is a Lilith performance of "Cain". More info on Iron Horse setlist, etc, after a good nights sleep. Lookin forward to hookin up with more of you on Saturday in Somerville! Let me describe to you what they look like: A light blue background. Across the top- "EDAs" in large white print. "maintaining our innocence" below that. Centered in the poster is the Jewelstock insignia that has become the stock and trade of EDAs. It is a geometric sketch of an angel (white) holding a similar depiction of Big Blue, the guitar Jewel used to use. (I'm still looking for an on-line pic of this!) Across the bottom- "JEWEL" in large print. =) This poster has been traditionally used at concerts to attract other EDAs and identify EDAs to Jewel during the show. Most EDA posters in circulation are charact- erized by Jewel autograph and inscriptions from EDAs worldwide! The posters are simple and bold to be easily recognizable. =) To get yours or ask questions, e-mail Larry for details at: =) Crunch! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 23:23:59 -0500 From: "Ron Williamson" Subject: Songs I relate to... I relate to anything Jewel sings. However, since the original idea behind this post was to get to know each other better, I'll try to explain why. I have been very fortunate in my life. I had the opportunity to get the education I needed to get the job I wanted. But my education was very technical and controlled, I even used to hate my liberal arts electives. After reading Jewel's bio, I was inspired. The fact that she risked everything to do something she loved is so strong, that I wanted to move into a van to try to gain that insight. I didn't. Instead, I listened carefully to her songs and interviews. I picked up on words like Baroque, Anais Nin, and Vonnegut. Jewel has opened my eyes to another world, and I have discovered that when beauty is combined with logic, everything is more interesting. So in closing, the reason I relate to all of Jewel's songs is because of the revelation she has lead me through. However, the reason I love to listen to her is a subject for another long post. Thanks Jewel. A person may do a good deed, such as donate time to the homeless, in order to feel that he has done his part to help the community. A woman may join the Peace Corp, but it will pay off her college loans. A boy may give away his lunch to the new kid that just got robbed by a bully, he wants a new friend. An old woman may give her liver to a young girl, and hence die, but she believes this somehow atone for earlier sins and get her into heaven. A young man becomes a missionary doctor to make his mom proud, and prove to the world that he isn't a doctor just for the money. =) The most extreme example is obviously this: A person gives his/her life to save another's. Any other reason aside, the purpose of this action is that the person giving up his/her life believes it is the right thing to do, he/she believes is is how his/her life can best be used. The gentle and honest point is that this personbelieves that it is the best thing that he/she can do, maybe for another, but also for him/herself. =) The fact is, noone does anything that they don't *want* to do. Sometimes life throws curves balls such as rape, catastrophe, terminal illness, etc. However, we always have a choice on how we are going to respond. And, we will always respond in the way we think is best for our short- or long-term future. In retrospect, sometimes those descisions could have been made more wisely, but at the time they seemed right. =) Believing in true selflessness is fine and dandy. It is a good starting point for children to learn about giving. But the realization of selfishness opens up new doors and opportunties. I am not condoning blatant acts of greed, not at all. I am suggesting quite the opposite: that by embracing the fact that we are, by nature, selfish, we can use that instinct to bring about greater good. The perfect example follows: "Those that add sunshine into the lives of others, can not keep it from themselves." By spreading love, good will, and generousity, we benefit ourselves because it will come back to us. By being selfless, we fill our selfish needs. By recognizing this we can begin to help the world become a better place with an attitude of truth and honesty. "I'm going to give this this because it will first benefit me, but it will also benefit others, everyone gains!" =) Jewel tries eagerly and passionately to share this message, in the manner that you suggested, Sean! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 22:36:26 -0600 (CST) From: 0blivi4 Subject: NJC: J-card programs for macs Are there any good programs for macintoshes that can create j-cards? I have the great pleasure of seeing folk singer-songwriter Brenda Weiler this Saturday. I've never heard of her before but was hoping someone had. She's going to sing in a local coffeehouse called "Emily's Harvest" and I have no idea why she's coming to a small town like Park Rapids. But I'm pumped anyway! :) So I'm asking, has anyone heard her sing? Her CD is called "Trickle Down" and I'm sure I'll buy it. E-mail me if you know anything about her.
