My name is Rachel and I don't post very often but since I was hearing so much about Steve Poltz, I had to add in my story! Last year at about this time Jewel came to Minnesota and I was lucky enough to have tickets to see her! We had been taking pictures outside the theater where she was playing and we asked this stranger walking by if he would take some pictures of the whole group of us. He readily agreed and we even took some pictures with him in them, just as a joke. We didn't realize until the Rugburns came on stage that we had just talked and taken pictures with STEVE POLTZ!!!! It was the coolest thing and he was such a nice guy! We were so surprised but it was great! I can't wait until his new cd comes out! Anyways, I just had to share that story with you all because I thought you might like it! Also, I just want to take a moment to thank those angels that have helped me increase my collection of angelfood. I am SO appreciative- I finally get to hear songs of Jewel's other than the ones on POY!! Thank you all and everybody keep up the great posts! My name is Alex E. & Im *unoffically* handling(I've kinda brought the burrden upon myself) music questions. Workin in an instrument music store part-time for about a year now(the pay still sucks, but at least Im getting something out of my experience workin there) & full-time(Ugh!) college student here in not-so-sunny California. Now back to the question: >>I know there is one for guitar but is there a separate one for piano?<< Nope and probably never will be a POY songbook just for piano. Publishers don't want to jack up their prices any more than they have to. Songbooks are either: 1)PVG - piano, vocal, guitar 2)PV - piano, vocal or 3) GV - guitar, vocal. There also are MIDI versions of songs from POY. I have not a clue where they are though since Im not a MIDI user(just yet). For those of you who haven't seen it, I have a web page called the Philosophies of the Lost Brotherhood. This page was created under the concept the musicians are the great philosophers of our time. The main focus of the page is Canadian singer Lawrence Gowan. "What was the point of that?" you may ask. It's quite simple. I want to do a new page (tentative title: Philosophy of Angels) based on the same focus, but with Jewel. And this is where the EDAs come in. If you check out my web page, you'll see that I have song lyrics from Gowan written down. I wish to do the same with Jewel. So, what I would like is for people to e-mail me telling me which song of Jewel's they think is the most "philosophical." I will take suggestions until the end of the month, at which time I will do up the page. The top three requests will be placed. Now you're probably asking, "Why doesn't the lazy twerp just do it himself?" (I know you're probably not, really. But I have an... odd... sense of humour... :) ) The only Jewel songs I have heard so far are the ones on POY and a Real Audio file of "My Very Own God's Gift To Women." I only have the lyrics from POY. If you send me a request that is NOT from POY, could you PLEASE send a copy of the lyrics? If you don't want to type them out, no problem. I'll post again to the list requesting the lyrics. Otherwise, thank you all. :) Have a nice day. Keep smiling... :) David Loewen Angel of the Lost Brotherhood nitehawk@uniserve.com http://users.uniserve.com/~nitehawk ICQ# 870070 - ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 1998 07:24:15 -0500 From: EDAngel@webtv.net (Hemp) Subject: Walmart Cable Actually I was thinking... I just joined the list... I was one of the first people around here that heard of Jewel... back in October 1996... everybody was WHO?? while I rambled about how great YWMFM is! And that she's from Alaska... Two months ago people here finally heard of her and Foolish Games became one of the most requested songs... while me at home was playing it on my guitar for almost a year... and thinking how deprived I am... cause fellow Angels in USA can go to a Jewelstock and follow her around on tour... Of course now I'm a huge fan and I do what I can to monitor what's going on with her.... so I joined this... and found a tab of her song that I didn't have yet... I would like to thank Sebastien for tablatures for Here When Gone But as I tried to play along the version I have (Jewelstock)... I kinda got lost every now and then... so I listened more carefully and tried to figure out how she plays it... well it's impossible... but this that I'm posting at least works for me... As of the past couple weeks, I'm now receiving more e-mails per day from the Juliana Hatfield mailing list than I am from the Jewel list. Juliana who? Well, some of you may have heard of her anyway. No singles out since 1995, when her last album came out and didn't do near as well as Jewel's has. Looks like what was done to moderate this list has really worked! Just found this to be interesting. I think the # of Jewel posts is still slightly higher than the Tara posts per day...but Tara's catching up quickly too! Jewel's character, Sue Lee Shelley, should be quite a challenging role. It's an incredibly violent story, but such were the times. It also gives a whole other perspective on many of the senseless goings-on during the Civil War, that "US History classes" neglect to teach. After all the pain & violence the lead character (Roedel) experiences, Sue Lee brings back hope for the future, renewed strength & changes him for the better spiritually. Not unlike the effect some of Jewel's songs have had on many people here. It's obvious to me what attracted Jewel to this particular part, besides the opportunity to work with such a gifted director as Ang Lee. Hope everyone is doing well, MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 1998 17:57:46 +0100 From: "Ben (or Tom) Hall" Subject: Jewel On the Radio and UK FG??? Hi all! Well, just to tell all the people who live in Europe near British Forces bases (not in the UK), the British Forces radio station, BFBS, will be playing Jewel - Live at Shepherds Bush on Saturday morning at 4:00 am (C.E.T.)... I can't tape it since I'm going back to england for half-term (I just hate ferries! hehe) but if anyone out there will be able to get it this is probably good information. It is available in some parts of Germany, Cyprus, Holland, probably many more places including the Falkland Islands and God knows where else! ALSO! Does anyone know if/when Foolish Games is finally getting released in the UK? I have been waiting for my HMV Direct order for over a month now! I wish they'd hurry up. I've had to go to Holland to buy someone the single! Oh well... This is the only part that talks about Steve. = ) Carrie Chatty Angel Radio seminar proves bland pop formats need creative spark By George Varga February 11, 1998 'I kind of feel like I'm Cassius Clay when he was weighing in with Sonny Liston -- I'm running on complete fear," said San Diego singer-songwriter Steve Poltz. "I don't really know what I'm doing, but I know it's important." What Poltz, the erstwhile leader of the Rugburns, was doing Saturday morning was performing for an audience of perhaps 150 seminar attendees in a ballroom at the downtown Hyatt Regency. But this was no ordinary audience or seminar, as Poltz was acutely aware. The audience for his fetching four-song solo set comprised a portion of the 2,500 radio programmers, record company executives and promotion people, concert promoters, publicists and other music industry members attending the 1998 Gavin Seminar. And Poltz, who was promoting his upcoming Mercury Records debut album, "One Left Shoe," knew that making a favorable impression with his Gavin listeners could have a major impact on how well his album (due out March 17) fares with radio programmers across the country. So in the middle of his version of "You Were Meant For Me," the chart-topping song he co-wrote with Jewel, Poltz launched into an impromptu monologue that included the names and call letters of various radio station programmers he had met during a recent cross-country promotional tour. A few minutes later, he introduced his striking solo version of the TLC hit "Waterfalls" with another good-natured plug for his album: "Fourth-quarter profits have been down at Mercury," said Poltz, whose mini-set also included his debut solo single, "Silver Lining," which he co-wrote with Jewel. "We're looking for a crossover hit that will appeal to listeners (ages) 8 to 80."
