I would have to say that it's this: "in the bible only angels have wings, and the rest must wait to be saved. A dry tongue screams at the sky, but the wind just breathes words in as a strange bird tries to fly" I know it's a little long, but I love that entire piece. DayGlow Angel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "We are each of us Angel's, with just one wing, and we can only fly embracing each other." ~Liciano De Crescenzo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "We are EveryDay Angels, be careful with me, cause I'd like to stay that way." ~Jewel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 18:50:09 -0700 From: "Rhino" Subject: NAPOYLM Hello, I was listening to the song that is allegedly titled "Need A Piece Of Your Love Machine". I want to ask a question and clear something up about this song. First off, does anyone know if this is the correct title?? Also, contrary to the popular misconception, the lyrics are NOT "a piece of your love machine", they are --> "need a piece of your love...MACHINERY." Listen to the lyrics and you'll see that I am right. It just hit me, and I was like, wow everyone else is wrong! Well, I'm sure not ALL of you were wrong, but still.... Johnson" Subject: "To Live On" I jsut got a copy of Daniel Woodrell's "Woe To Live On", which is the book on wich Jewel's movie is based on (thanx duff!!!!), and I have just read half of it. And although the character which I suspect Miss Kilcher will be playing (Sue Lee) has just been introduced, she seems like the perfect character for the Precious One (of course, that could be becaus I am envisioning her in the role, but oh well). Anyways, there is an order form for an English publisher that includes the book. I'm not sure as to the availiblity, but I would be happy to look into it, if enough people were interested. It is a very good book, besides. Email me if interested. I can't wait for the film. and hey, have a great day, everyday!!! I know its been quite a while since I've posted. I've just kinda been sitting back, and watching all of this craziness. >From time to time we continually get these kinds of, umm, disputes on the list. I've participated in many of them, and have learned in the last couple of months that its best to just let them pass. I generally don't even address them anymore. Maybe it would be cool if we just ignored the posts we don't agree with, and let bygones be bygones. I don't know if i spelled that right or not, but oh well.. I just want to remind everybody that although we are EveryDay Angels, we are also EveryDay humans! joe ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 22:25:48 EST From: DmBear978@aol.com Subject: Reminder about the *EDA Gathering*in California (long) Hi All, Before I stand on my soapbox & speak my opinion about all whats going on.... Monday Febuary 16th @ Disneyland whenever the doors open(more on exact time later) EDAs who have that day off or for some other catastrophic reason have too much free time, lets mean over far left of the ticket booths/entrance close to were the locker building is. Wear your EDA shirts -- we're gonna mob the happiest place on earth!! During the off season (i.e. right now) Disneyland is $28 to get in instead of the $30 -something every other time of the year. And the timing is before all the college students get off for Spring Break. That could be a good thing and a bad thing. STIBTW, I guess. =) My 2 cents: *If someone, something, somewhere gets offended by what Im sayin. Flame away on me....I've gotten a bit tired of the same old mail.* >Wed, 4 Feb 1998 20:34:28 -0500, you wrote: > I DONT KNOW JEWEL. and I doubt that any one else on this list does.< Strike one. There are a load of vets. that know Jewel & have gotten to hang with her for awhile. I haven't gotten that privilege yet, but I have read the stories of the past. >Society is very curious, and that goes along with human nature< Uhmm....almost. Im not gonna give a whole lot of jargin jibberish, but, I think that the media has enhanced our want to know more about anything/everything. Curiousity isn't in human nature, but interest is(in SADFISH). If you know what Im talking about, good. If you don't, well....its a nonverbal human behavior thing. :) On at different topic: >And second, just try and find one person who wouldn't want another Jewelstock< Tough decision! =) Who would want a JewelStock II? See, my point exactly! Id like to see this complaining end, but I know it will be back again someday in the future. Lets keep ourselves content with what we've got. So far, so definatly good. GpA Alex BTW --- If El Nino is still around when Feb. 16th hits, Im still gonna show UNLESS the rain is too much. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Feb 1998 23:05:03 +0000 From: Gerry Lipnowski Subject: One more popularity comment Hi everyone, I think the debate about whether Jewel's popularity has changed her, and the potential negative or positive effects thereof, has been a stimulating and civilized one. There have been some excellent posts and diverse points of view expressed by Adrian du Plessis, Thomas Bass, Sean Hooks, Ray Wong and the always appreciated Mr. BB, and others. Here's my two cents. First, I'd like to cite an insightful quote on this subject. "There is this strange belief that we can't enjoy something once it's popular. This seems cowardice to me. We should have the courage to exalt that which moves us." >From which source of wisdom is this quote derived? Someone named Jewel Kilcher. She wrote it in one of the mini posters available from her web site, as well as in her 1998 calendar (October, if I remember correctly). I think her point is, and it's one I share, that popularity does not have to diminish the importance of someone's artistry. The example I always bring up, and many of you have heard this from me before, is the Beatles. They were not only arguably the most popular musical act of all time, but also the most creative. It's true that popularity may diminish certain aspects of a performer's interaction with their audience. Sean is right when he says Jewel's popularity may forever hinder the possibility of a Jewelstock 2. Just as the Beatles - because of the larger scale of their popularity - were forced to stop touring altogether after 1966. However, the music they shared with us in the four years following was simply the most creative, influential and artistically inventive ever recorded. The fact that POY sells sells more copies each week than Jewel expected it to sell in her lifetime has not dampened for one moment the emotional attachment I have for her work. Seeing her in concert with thousands of other fans has been just an inspiring experience for me as the first time I saw her in a club with about 50 other people. Has her popularity and millionaire status changed Jewel? Probably. Has she handled this change with grace and respect towards her fans? From eveything I've seen, I'd say yes. Does her popularity allow her to explore new facets of her creative self? Definitely. Will she continue to produce work that moves me to the point that I exalt her artistry? Absolutely! Will I ever end this overly long post? Uhm...yup. Gerry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Feb 1998 19:55:35 -0800 From: Jeremy Mull Subject: It's amazing how much we all know (or so we think) Hi my name is Jeremy (for those of you who didn't read the addressing) and this is my first post. I appreciate everybody's input from time to time, but I'm surprised at how much we allegedly know. Do we honestly know why Jewel did this or did that? I assume not, at least I don't. Yet it seems a lot of you do. By the way this isn't directed only at the people who have been "disappointed" with her but those who feel the need to defend her at a moments notice. Don't assume too much when it comes to Jewel. In my opinion, Jewel still appreciates her fans, but she's enjoying what is going on at the same time. Of course, I don't know for sure. One of my favorite musician is Garth Brooks. He's known for his relationship with his fans (millions) and of course his music. I think if Jewel wants to she'll be in a position similar to him, although maybe not quite as extreme. I mean that in the most complimentary way. Win or lose, failure or success, I'll always appreciate Jewel. Thanks for your time everybody, Jeremy ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #90 **************************
