First, I never knew Jewel was dyslexic. How would that affect her acting? And what's this about her and Leonardo DiCaprio, I'm really not up to speed. Is Michel her boyfriend famous too? I think Jewel has a gorgeous voice and she is really talented, and I'm also glad that she so often shows that she is truly human, and very sweet. It seems through all her hard times she's kept a good attitude, and it's all paid off for the best, I sure hope she's happy. I mean, the internet, and remember it is the internet that gets this letter out, is not all that universal. It still is a means of sommunication for the priveliged. Not to say that everyone on teh interent is wealthy, or that everyone on this list is, but that for teh most part the assumption can be made that most people on the interent today have a comfortable, if not "rich" economic backing. Therefore the idea of a concert for members of a newsletter on the internet, or that is a concert only for the wealthy really would undermind Jewel's and our character, as well as being horribly bad press for Jewel herself. I think that this elitest idea should probably end, i mean we don't want Jewel looking like some capitalitic fascist elitist bitch. love from paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Feb 1998 23:36:23 EST From: Carter7630@aol.com Subject: Letterman wav May I please have the letterman wav? Oh yeah, my sister, who's studying in New Zealand, says that they play WWSYS ALL the time on the radio, so it's no surprise that it went four times platinum over there. (awhhhhh god, jewel wears nail polish now......just kidding guys!!!!:->) jewel gets me right between the shoulder blades. yup right there. a quick feeling like when you hit your funny bone. the lines "i am a woman, haunted by hands even though i'm alone, traces of pompeii across my skin, and an invisible map of where you've been" make me think, wow. this chick with the pretty chin and crooked teeth really is something. i go through days where i don't want to even think about jewel. but, you know what, i don't feel guilty. the same way i don't feel guilty when i don't wear that beautiful velvet dress my mother gave me for christmas everyday. jewel has given us a grand little package with pieces of you, and lots of stocking stuffers with all that angelfood. THINGS REALLY ARE GOOD, GUYS! because the topping on the cake is the eda's. lets stay tight-knit." This is all true. (And I'd reprint luna's entire post but I know that gets frowned upon as bad netiquette - but read it all along with the other posts in recent days that speak of the beauty and goodness that has come from our connection here, and from Jewel's artistry.) Many EDAs have e-mailed me with positive messages since my earlier post. Gee, makes it kinda nice to be in the land of the living. Jewel, in ways that can't be analyzed or counted, has added to my enjoyment of this existence. Life is the most precious thing we have - and when another person can touch us so profoundly, from whatever distance, that's something to cherish and respect. many special things have happened to us here, big and small, because of the music, the poems, the friends, the activities we've known through Jewel and this list; none of this can be bad and if one doesn't lose sight of the meaning of these things and where they come from, then it's only a beginning to the journey it's easy in this busy world to get distracted by the background noise - there's a reason we're all on this list, and it's not to poke or prod other people's lives, but to share things that enrich us I felt fortunate to run into Jewel and Michel today - in a city I rarely visit, and where, to my knowledge, she rarely, if ever performs in; such is life; the last words Jewel said to me as we split up was "keep having those living room shows". That's another unique way that EDAs have been able to enjoy music and friendship. And the season for travelling is soon approaching. If we participate, on any scale, in these sort of activities, we're regaining the original purpose that gave the breath of life to this list and to the dreams of millions. It's the Year of the Tiger (Chinese New Year has just been celebrated). It's going to be a big one. I've been sitting here reading all of the posts about the controversial changes of Jewel. I really do not understand why we can't just embrace the changes, instead of complaining. There are people who complain that they want more Jewel songs, more and more Jewel songs, when...aren't we really, really lucky to have what we have? Angelfood and the abundance of it seems amazing and a wonderful opportunity to me...I don't think we should complain when there is less new material than before. And for those people who complain that Jewel is doing a movie...are you the same people who get excited when Jewel is on TV for 5 minutes? Now you'll get to see her for 2 hours! And for those of you who complain that all of this is going to Jewel's head...imagine how you would be if you were thrust in to superstardom. I think Jewel is handling it better than a lot of people. Maybe she makes mistakes now and then...but so does everyone. If anyone out there who has gone on and on about how great Jewel is and how it was amazing that not that many people liked her initially....if there is anyone out there who claimed they loved Jewel and her music and now are complaining because she's not living up to the image of her they created...I think you need to step back and breathe a little bit. I've been considering quitting the Jewel list that was so wonderful when I joined a year ago. It really felt like a little community. And I think its sad that the more people who join this list to spread their APPRECIATION of Jewel, the more fights and arguments there are. I don't feel like I should quit...I still like Jewel, I still admire Jewel, and for anyone out there who says "I used to like Jewel but now she's a primadonna" or something... .maybe you should quit. I don't know...I just wish that the list was made up of more people like...Jewel... A number of Canadian EDAs have asked me where Jewel is playing tonight (February 5) in Victoria, B.C. I've done some checking and the answer, I think, may be of interest to all EDAs. Turns out that it's a private party for about 200 people - no tickets are being sold and the location of Jewel's concert is being kept secret so that it remains intimate. If it can happen once, it can happen again... eh? I do sympathize with stars in not being able to go anywhere unnoticed, but in some ways I don't feel sorry for them. With all due respect to Miss Kilcher, she knew what she was getting into, fame wise. You have to take the good with the bad and people want to try to make it in the limelight, then they've got to expect that they're giving up a lot of their private life. That's the price of fame. Granted their is the fact of paparazzis, which I definitely feel for the stars. Just my opinion. I'm sure Jewel hasn't forgotten her fans, after all, without the fans, she would be nowhere. We're the ones who buy her CD's and made her millions, we're the one that buy her tix, etc, as with any fan to any stars. Bye now.
