I was wondering if it was just me, or if other people who signed up right away have not gotten insturctions either. >> The problem was that the production of the J-Cards took longer than expected. I wouldn't expect anyone to get instructions until mid-week(latest being Thursday, we hope.). Sorry to inconvenience anyone, but in our strive to make a perfect recording we got ahead of ourselves in releasing it. But don't worry, it will be here before Fitz Creek Store is on store shelves. :) JonBoy911 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 20:37:55 -0500 (EST) From: Sean Hooks Subject: Of COURSE music is redundant to her, whats wrong with yous? This is in response to anyone who is claiming that Jewel has forgotten her roots by claiming that music is redundant to her now on the Tonight Show. Well, wouldn't it be to you too?? I mean, that is like the 5th TV appearance she has done Foolish Games on alone. I am sick of hearing it, I can only imagine how sickly uncreative and bored she must be with performing it. After you play a song hundreds and hundreds of times it gets old and stale, no matter how old it is. That's why artists often abandon hit songs for long periods of time, or change them signifigantly, which Jewel began to tinker with in the many versions of WWSYS she performed live over the years, as well as the many different studio versions of YWMFM that she has. Saying that by taking a break from music a while is forgetting her roots is absurd. The woman is tired. Tired of TV appearances, tired of annoying crowds at her shows that don't know shit about her music and she always has to ask them to be quiet, tired of playing the same songs, tired of Atlantic holding back her new album, tired of being "Jewel the Rock Star." Now most of you weren't on this list back when it was any good but a long long long time ago I predicted that popularity and mainstreaming of her music would hurt Jewel. Maybe it has. But to me, a true fan I see absolutely nothing wrong with Jewel pursuing another avenue(acting) of expressing her creativity, artfulness, and talent. She wants to challenge herself, experiment, try something different. She'll always be a great musician and now it has paid off for her and exhausted its commercial potential. She can now live comfortably off her millions that she made from her music(not that it was music alone that made her famous, I'm sure her appearance and Atlantic's continual promotion and the trend towards female singer-songwriters in the market didnt hurt) so why shouldn't she put it aside for a while and pursue that which will make her happy? Is that forgetting your roots or your fans? Hell no. It's artistic creativity and the desire to conquer new goals and objectives. That's all for now. Later, Sean Hooks ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 17:49:28 -0800 From: "Marc S. Lafer" Subject: Spread her wings I have been on this list but a short time but feel compelled to respond to some of the concern about Jewel on Leno. Mind you, I don't really have a clue but these are my thoughts. Jewel is an incredible talent, not to mention a free spirit. I get goosebumps when I listen to her music. Be that as it may and whatever direction she takes, Jewel can write and sing beautiful music whenever she so desires. If she were to take five years off from the music scene, I have no doubt on her "comeback", she would start almost where she left off. She is a natural. Like it or not, most of us probably don't have the talent to make it to the top of the "industry". Jewel has it. I think one of life's great pleasures is to experience all that life has to offer. Let Jewel "spread her angel wings" and fly as high as she so desires. She will always be with us, one way or another. She has affected us and we affect others. As to her "attitude", as some have described it, cut her some slack. Let her breathe. Just like what she said about Bill. Shouldn't she enjoy the spoils of her work? While some, if not most, let "celebritism" go to their heads, I doubt Jewel is one of them. She is a different breed. I suspect she will always follow her own instincts. I hope I haven't offended anyone. Just cough it up to my age (40), an olster. I don't want to make this cheesy but it's gonna be, I write to Jewel every single week, I never get responses or advice or anything. Well the last week i skipped writing her for about a month and a half, because i was starting to think why am i doin this? She doesn't care.but then one day i was goin through bookmarks form the internet and i came across an interview Jewel did. It said something like I get so depressed on the road and i get so happy when i open up the email account and see that people appreciate me and they like what i am doing! That right there made me write this sappy letter to Jewel and it all came from the bottom of my heart. I waited two days or so and i got one of those automated things visit my page blah blah blah. But then after that auto greeting at the bottom it said Thanks Kate! No lie it said that and I bet it was her email checker but still it made me realize how great Jewel is as a performer and person. Thats it. Don't lose faith in her!! But to people who say that they're tired of FG... why? I mean, it's Jewel... which makes it automatically good. I agree that it's overplayed, but still... FG was huge before and lots of people like it... so why don't you guys still like it?! Sorry to post again so soon! :) - -Jenny, The Angel With Silver Lining ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 23:19:48 EST From: DGlowAngel@aol.com Subject: stuff...again (again) > I think Jewel is going downhill a little bit, but she's always going to > be her beautiful self. Her new cd should ignite her love for music > again. I hope it does also. She's always been top on my list. The > soul and passion in her music touches me every time I listen to it. I > love her voice and how she's natural but beautiful. I look at it this way: we have to remember that Jewel also has a passion for acting and poetry, but ever since the release of POY, all of focus has been on her singing. I think now that she's releasing books and doing a movie, her soul will feel balanced again, and she'll be more than happy to continue furthering her music. Just my take on the situation. I have had Pieces of You for a little over a year now, and have been anxiously awaiting the release of her new album, which someone - I can't seem to recall who - told me would be sometime in Febuary? If someone could, would you send me some information on this please? It would be greatly apreciated. I have been going by the on-line name DayGlow Angel for a while now and have gotten a lot of nasty remarks about it (people calling it "unholy") so you can imagine the kick I got out of meeting you guys. My real name is Crystal, I'm 15, and adore the music of Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Lisa Loeb, generally the whole Lilith Fair gang. I'm sorry if you get a lot of newbies asking about this, but what is this tape? I love to sing and would be blessed if I could make it my career, but I'm just a little to shy and my songs are always just a little to off-beat. I would love the chance to sing a few Jewel songs, though. DayGlow Angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #75 **************************
