She's with actor John Stamos and looks great!! :) Also, on page 152 it talks about the American Music Awards. There's no picture, but it says: "Even the usually dazzling Jewel wore a simple Helmut Lang leather blazer and black pants. 'I just didn't feel like getting dressed up tonight,' she said." By the way, does anyone have pics of her from the AMA that I could see? Thank you. Talk to y'all later. Bye. Peace, Priscilla. Hello all, For the people who caught the show a nite back, were you guys as dissappointed as I was? I just can't get over the fact that she said "music's been getting redundant." i mean what's up with that? I still love her music and the innocence and purity of it, but I just believe it was kind of cocky of her to say something like that. I know that my opinion is sort of dogmatic, but come on. Music was what got her to where she is, how can she double back and say something like that? Is she forgetting her roots? If you go back to how she became famous, everyone knows it's the fans. Which is what we are. I remember the WWSYS video and how she looked back then; the simple chick who was just starting out and thanked god every moment of her newly developed career. But now, she has conformed into the masses of the Hollywood/ pop famous crowd with the heavy make-up and the covering up of her true self. Is it just me or has she become a hypocrite of her own music and beliefs? She used to preach about the necessity of living your true self through her real songs. But what is she doing now? Oh well. These are mere points of my opinion. Please don't get mad at me for what I have said. I will forever love Jewel's music. But just not her present 'attitude'/ way of dealing with thing. Maybe all of this has gotten a little to her head. Oh well. Thanks for read all of this. Feel free to email a responce. Well, I think I've had it with Jewel. Last night on Leno, Jewel talked about singing the anthem and said she was proud to have represented our country with Bill Clinton as our President. "Leave Bill alone, I like Bill", she says. She's on a first name basis....now that's scary. I don't think I can ever listen to or watch Jewel again. I'm kidding of course. :-) About Jewel's singing on Leno. She really showed some great emotion. I really liked the sadness & anger expressions she exhibited during the song. Not that I'm into sadness and anger, I just thought she did a good job representing the meaning of the lyrics. She'll make a good actress. The camera close-ups were great. Hopefully, she'll sing a non-POY song on Rosie next week. Now something about the Super Bowl. If my eyes weren't deceiving me, I believe she was wearing a crucifix chain around her neck. Of what Christian denomination is she, I wonder. On MuchMusic I&I she talked about her spirituality by saying "When you're surrounded by beauty (talking about Alaska and her homestead) you can't help but feel you're part of something beautiful, that you have your place in that, and there must be a God. But then again it was never really religious. I've just always had a real feeling for myself. I've always known I had a spirit as well as a body. I've never felt much comfort in extreme, however. I've never felt much comfort in having to join a strict religion or having to be a hippie or new age person or any of those things. I think I'm all of those things." By this statement, I assume she really has no religion, but if she's wearing a crucifix I would assume she believes in Jesus as her Saviour, otherwise why wear one. Anyone like to enlighten me on this? - -Tom ______________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 18:01:49 EST From: Ginger16C@aol.com Subject: Jewel's Hair?? Hi Angels, I missed Leno and I have been reading posts about Jewel's hair. I heard that she had dreads or something like that...... huh? Is this true, or did she just have braids in her hair,(like at the Lilith Fair)? E-mail me if you know what I am talking about ~ Thanks to anyone who answers . Ginger * ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 19:32:15 EST From: Live4snow@aol.com Subject: jewel gone valley girl? Hey there fellow EDAs~ I've been a jewel fan since day one when i first heard WWSYS on the radio... Shes obiously very talented.. But over the last few years im beginning to decrease my love for her... She seems to be a lot more like other singers around.. It's dissapointing if thats the road shes taking.. The biggest reason i was so in love with her was her natural, beautiful, peaceful effect on me, and she seems to wear a little more make up every time i see her perform.. And then this qoute on Leno about "music becoming redundant" It makes sense because shes been playing basically one album for the last 3 years, but if you look at other great bands like the grateful dead, for say, they played music for 30 years and it never became a redundant thing for them... I hope that with the release of her new CD the music will ignite her love for music again... I thik that she'll always do music but I don't want to see her losing her soul that she puts in to it... because to me thats the most important thing...I still think shes a great woman and a very talented musician, but how long can she take the pressures of the media with out becoming one of the other celebs thats in the media?? ~Worried EDA ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 16:15:35 +0000 From: "Ryan Wyche" Subject: Tonight Show Appearance Hello Everyone! Well, I've noticed several people lately making their first contribution to this list, and after what I just saw, as well as the day I've had today in general, I think it's time to make one of my own... I'm sure I would not be the first to point out what an amazing performance Jewel just gave of Foolish Games. It brings tears to my eyes just replaying it in my head. That has certainly been one of my favourite songs of late, especially with some of the recent events in my own life. I was also very happy to see that they discussed the Superbowl without a single mention of, or even reference to lipsyncing. Now if the country could follow the advice of Jewel and others regarding Clinton, and just let that drop, we might get back on track of where we need to go for tomorrow, not just as a country but as individuals as well. There is certainly a lot we can learn from people "in the spotlight" if we look carefully, but you don't have to read the whole encyclopedia to get the information most valuble to you personally. Maybe I explained that in an obscure way, but at least I tried. Oh, if anyone wants to know a little about me, I'm a 22 year old artist and zookeeper from Spokane, WA. And I might be part of a minority for my Jewel Story... I actually fell in love with her Poetry before I really loved her songs. A friend was listening to her one day, and I just picked up the jcard and started reading. Anyhow, I'll end this before it gets longer. Hey EDA's~ Hi, I just recently joined, and this list is really great. I only just head of Jewel a year or so ago, and I think she's incredible! Her voice, her music, and her lyrics are amazing. :) All I have of hers right now is POY, so I haven't heard of most of the songs mentioned on here. I read about the "Innerchange Days" tapes, what songs are on that? Well, I'm gonna go, I just wanted to say hi, and tell y'all how great this is. :) Always, Naomi ~The Quiet Angel~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 19:51:40 -0700 (MST) From: moon Subject: Renaissance Angel Jewel Shows Another Angle hi everyone ! i just wanted to point out that although jewel may have said that music was becoming redundant, i don't think that meant she is tired of music at all. i am sure she is just tired of doing PoY songs. she was already weary of foolish games before they even released it as a single. and as far as not being true to herself by setting music aside to do the movie--this is the complete opposite of what she is doing. most artists are multi-media of some sort. jewel has never seemed to me to be a purely musical artist. i remember stories from a very long time ago where steve poltz (her very dear friend from the rugburns for the newbies) was talking about meeting her. he said something along the lines of her showing him pictures of sculpture she had made. and we all know about her poetry, and the tourbook from tiny lights is filled with little drawings. so we have covered voice, guitar, sculpture, drawing, writing, and the newest is acting. rather than being untrue to herself by stepping into a new arena, she is refreshing her creativity by broadening her horizons. and just think of the new songs she will have after the whole experience! i would also like to mention that by wearing make-up, jewel is not becoming hollywood. i do not connect the two. jewel seems very confident with her looks and is always willing to experiment (thus the braids or whatever we have been hearing about). if she is wearing make-up, we should see it as an expression of her, the same way we see the passion in her voice. jewel is a multi-faceted person. that is why she has sold 7 million copies of her album. well, i could be wrong, 7 million people *could* have the exact same opinion.... :-) she will not always be kosher to a specific taste. try to understand all the other angles of her scope. you will save yourself much heartache. love you guys! luna ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 21:45:45 -0500 From: "Robert V. I was listening to one of my tapes,(I must listen to Jewel for at least 12 hours a day), it's Jewel Rocks The Paradise (Boston, MA) and Foolish Games is the first song side B and it is almost the exact version she sang on Leno last night. So everybody that loved how much emotion she out into it last night, all you have to do is listen to Jewel Rocks The Paradise. Recently, I have been getting chainletters from EDAs whom I have never spoken too. However, I shall kepp these names withdrawn from this letter/complaint. I believe that when I signed on to this list, it said in the agreement that one should not send chain letters to the list. Although this may not be directly to the list itself, these people have been getting my name through the list to send my these pieces of misfortune and bad luck I would just like to announce this publicly in hopes of it not reoccurring.
