If you are, I think you can agree(or maybe just nod your head) that I can't wait till Spring Break. And to top off my eagerness for four months, off I've got a headache cause I was laughing at some stupid Jewel jokes the guys at work keep annoying me with. =) Here they are, my top 5: 1) 1000 Miles Away -Ive got a short Lilith Fair story with it- 2) Morning Song -I really do want to sleep in whenever I listen to it- 3) Quiet Warrior -YES! Im the guy shes talking about in the second part of the song(maybe sp?)-BTW QW was my first EDA name(Who cares, right?) 4) Love Me Just Leave Me Along -I hopped almost frantically in my chair at the 9/20/97 show- & 5) 3 way tie!!! Passing Time-Im kinda waiting for my Marlo Brando too...uh...no, that ain't right...more like waiting for Marylin Monrow, yeah =) & YYMFM -I've kinda like playing my speeded up version(not too fast!) & WWSYS -Gotta play it blues style to make me feel good- BTW- that something else. ?: I remember Mike talking about treeing the FF3 & 9/20/97 Hospitality Point show, I see one is out...is the other soon to follow? Just to share a few thought about something: I remember awhile back looking through something on the internet & ran across a post from someone who(at the time) was subscribed to the Jewel & Alanis M. mailing lists. He/she made a comment about how small thinks heat up into big things on this list. Looking about on the last few digests, I think he/shes got a small point. This "Is Jewel patriotic" topic doesn't need to be discussed. There could be hundreds and hundred of posts responding to it, all of which are more speculation. Remember WAY back when(how far? like '96) when the 1st Jewel FAQ came out. The question about letting Jewel's private life be what she wants it to be comes to mind. I don't want to be the one putting the fuel on the fire, Im just saying what I see. Other than speeking my mind, are there any EDAs that work in an instrument music store? There the annual winter NAMM(National Association of Musician Merchants) show @ the LA Convention Center this coming Thurs through Mon.Im going for the 1st time on Friday(who cares, right?), maybe I'll post about after I recover from the migrain Im gonna get. At the NAMM show, well know(& probably unknown too) musicians show up to their endorcement booths. Maybe Jewel will show up at the Taylor booth(yes Mr. BB I agree its probably not gonna happen either). Im tired, but my headache is gone! Here are my top 5 Jewel songs so far... 1) 1,000 Miles Away. Was, is, and will most likely always be, my favorite. 2) You're In Cleveland Today. Too many stories to tell about this one... every line means something to me in some aspect dealing with Jewel or concerts, or, of course, EDAs :) This'll be here forever too probably. 3) Near You Always. It just gives me goosebumps! It's sooooo honest and truthful and totally... love, it's just soooo cool to feel like that. 4) Grey Matter. IMHO, the best chorus Jewel's ever written. And the rest of the lyrics are so poignant. Too bad, really, that she doesn't play it anymore. 5) I'm taking Hotel Angel (moon over austin) for my 5th favorite song.. it's haunting for some reason, a resonance in that song that you don't see often. I want to say Down here, heard it the second time it was ever played and it was captivating... but no. esp bc the lyrics have changed so much since then ;) I left out my fave poltz/jewel songs or else silver lining would be in there and ywmfm and my body is changing, and i thought i saw you last night, and impala... but that's another thread :) take it easy kids! - -tim 'burkeman' ______ ____ ____ / ____/ / __ \ / | Tim Burke / __/ / / / / / /| | tb340297@oak.cats.ohiou.edu / /___ / /_/ / / ___ | /_____/ /_____/ /_/ |_| "I am a worm." -Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jan 1998 11:59:35 -0500 From: pigs@swva.net (Erin Martin) Subject: dyslexia Hi! Sorry to bother regular discussion, but I'm doing a big project relating to dyslexia and I have 2 questions for anyone who's met Jewel or knows a lot about her... First, when she makes "o"'s or circles, does she make them clockwise or counterclockwise? Has anybody seen drawings or writings that show this? Second, when she writes, does she "hook" her hand over or keep her hand kind of flat? I know these seem really trivial and all, but I"d like to at least mention her in my report and use her case history to support my theory. Anybody out there who is dyslexic is also invited to write me to be psychoanalyzed and used in my report!:) Thanks a lot! It was a fun night and it was good to see many of you there -- along with seeing SDs hometown heroes Cindy Lee and Elizabeth. Promotion mogul Bill Silva even showed up for this one. It was also nice to see that the EDAs were mentioned by name on Steve's promo posters -- look out for those LRTs... - ----------------------------------- =09 =20 Steve Poltz=20 @ the Roxy Theater, Los Angeles 1/26/98 Some call him offbeat. Some call him erratic. Others wouldn't want to call him at all. But one thing you can't call him is boring. STEVE POLTZ is a one-of-a-kind singer-songwriter that never fails to impress.=20 His brand of say-it-like-you-mean-it love/hate songs have given his loyal followers both Goosebumps and grins for years. Now, taking a temporary hiatus from his San Diego-based band THE RUGBURNS to promote his upcoming solo debut "One Left Shoe" (Mercury) due March 17th, Poltz brought his delectable charm and his bag of pseudo-esoteric tunes to the Roxy. The night began with newcomer LISA SANDERS taking the stage with fellow songstress MARY DOLAN. Riding high on the mounting success of her debut album "Isn't Life Fine" (Cargo/MCA), Sanders packed an inspiring half-hour set of soulful, easygoing ditties. Filling the Roxy Theater with their pleasantly unrestrained vocal-harmonies, both Sanders and Dolan triumphed with "Shadows From My Eyes" and "Life's Funny That Way."=20 Look out for these two very talented artists=85 =20 After initial audio troubles -- which was quickly remedied with a crowd-warming, ultra acoustic version of "Cumbaya" -- Poltz began his set with the title track from his solo album. Like experiencing a mind-meld of PETER CASE and Dr. Seuss in one, Poltz (backed up by members of THE RUGBURNS known affectionately on this night as THE APOSTLES) rang out songs that were both heartfelt and true. Poltz & Co. continued to keep the crowd smiling with the easy-to-relate-to "98 Pounder" -- a confession of sorts about being omitted from his junior high basketball team only to be given a position on the school's wrestling squad. Fresh from her Super Bowl stint and a (very) quick appearance at the American Music Awards, JEWEL (who appears on several tracks on "One Left Shoe") delighted attendees by joining her long-time friend for a few songs they co-wrote together. But before beginning a rousing version of their popular local hit, "Silver Lining," Jewel graciously thanked Poltz for discovering her and then proceeded with the couplet "My muffin's in the toaster/I got my raspberry jam/My grandfather was a sailor/that came onto this land." Soon after, the crowd was captivated with the duo's other collaborative efforts "Old Lover's House" and "I Thought I saw You Last Night." Poltz finished off the night with more melodic, blissful numbers including the radio-ready "Kicking Distance From Your Heart," a duet with Sanders on the sweeping "Rainbow," and a worthy cover of TLC's "Waterfalls." With his boyish, good-natured onstage presence one could imagine the show being headlined by Beaver Cleaver if the kid ever put his childhood diary to song verse. Where it be laughing to his quirky yet truthful lyrics or relating to his candid tales of heartbreak, the audience was easily won over by Poltz. Keep on the look out for this one of a kind singer-songwriter. He's destined for greater things and it's about time=85 - ------------------------------------------ Take care, Gerard=09 ________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jan 1998 13:39:58 EST From: Poltz74 Subject: Wizard of oz Hi, I don't have cable so I was wondering if anyone would like to trade the Wizard of oz, I have the Jewel compilation video 1 & 2 and Hard Rock live, Unplugged and tapes, but I don't have duel cassette yet so i can only make copies of the VHS tapes. I decided to write about all of the recent things at once... My Jewel Story: I heard WWSYS and saw the video a lot, but really never had a response to it. I thought it was ok, but I wasn't wowed by it. Then, YWMFM became popular and I liked it a lot. I never really thought about buying the CD, but I still loved it again. In music class we had to choose songs to analyze and someone did YWMFM and I completely fell in love with it. It related to the way I felt about a special someone at the time. A few months later I bought the CD cause I had heard Foolish Games and liked it. I never really listened to the whole CD though until one rainy day when my mom and I were painting my kitchen. I put the CD on, but I still wasn't hooked. Gradually I started liking more and more of the songs and now I can listen to the whole CD without getting bored. Like others the CD kinda grew on me. My Favorite Jewel Songs: Well, I sure have a lot... Here's my top ten 10. My Own Private God Gift's To Women 9. Race Car Driver 8. Rocker Girl 7. Sometimes It Be That Way 6. Little Sister 5. Angel Standing By 4. You Were Meant For Me 3. Don't 2. Near You Always 1. Foolish Games About the Anthem: I wasn't really watching closely (sorry) so I don't have a real opinion about the lip synching. What I wanted to know though is are you sure that she lip synched it? My mom pointed out to me that in the interviews after the game there was a short delay in sound. I think she did a pretty good job either way. In the poll it said that 18 people other than me live in NJ. Can anyone whole lives in NJ e-mail me? Zaria2@aol.com. Thanks! And if someone has some info on the Future Folklore tapes please e-mail me also. I'm interested in getting a little more background on them. Well, that's it. Sorry for the long post!
