In it is an article discussing what artists/bands will be succesful in 98. I'll just type up the part that talks about Jewel... "Jewel will suffer the dreaded sophmore sales jinx-- similar to those suffered by Sheryl Crow and Hootie & the Blowfish-- with her 1998 release. Alanis Morissette and Hanson, however, will not." Hmmm... I don't quite understand this. They are expecting Jewel to be a one album wonder and not Hanson? Am I missing something? Also, on another subject... I'd just like to clear up some confusion. Just to let you know, I am a female, I know my name is misleading. I thought I'd mention it, since within the past couple of weeks I've received a ton packages containing tapes for the dubbing of Rare Angels, and a few were addressed to "Mr. Bradi Powell." I actually find it comical, but I just thought I would let you all know that I am a female:) There was something else I wanted to say, but now I can't remember. Dontcha hate that? I was just in the Mushroom (that's a record store) and while browsing through their catalog I found two albums listed under jewel--the familiar POY and something listed as "best, vol.1" or something similar. It's only available on cassette, and there was no track listing. Does anyone have any clue as to what it is, and what tracks are on it? - -s p.s. I didn't order it b/c I don't own a tape player. Ya know, I just realized that a steadfast EDA tradition has been slipping lately, if not dying :( Websites featuring pictures from EDA gatherings/events. I can't recall any mentioned on the list from last summer's Living Room Tours (tm) and I know there weren't any permanent websites mentioned with pictures from the EDA Thanksgiving weekend shows in San Diego/Java Joe's. I know we had some webmasters at the event and it's obvious that pictures had to have been taken. There HAVE to be some incredible pictures of the EDAs, Jewel & the other artists. Come on folks, we can't let this tradition die! Kris? Dennis? Larry? MrBB? Tom & Nancy? Anyone? It would be nice to be able to see some pictures up on the web to go along with the VERY soon to be treed tape of the event (Future Folklore #3) Mike :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * If you have list related questions, feel free to email me * at Ducksoup@spectra.net * * DuckofPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 1998 20:54:40 -0500 (EST) From: Rachel Subject: Re: "vol.1" I've never seen this but I think I remember at CD Now they have it and it's a karaoke album of Jewel's songs, if it's what I think it is. rachel On Sat, 24 Jan 1998, Sean wrote: > Hey y'all. (i paid the 8$'s) then walked in and right next to the stage there were three reserved tables and the middle table i saw a man and lady talking hummm.... who that guy STEVE!!! well, i went to get my seat first then a few minites later i got up and made my way towards him but by that time eveyone was there and swarming him (arrrr!!) well, i got to him with my camra in hand but first i told him i am a huge fan and my name is Josh and i use the screen name rugfan21 on irc (i think he is internet eliterit, in a goood way! :) well, after that i asked him if I can have a picture with him (if you know steve) yeah sure you want a picture now? YES! so i got a picture with him. then i asked him if he could slip in the "abc song" on his setlist he said YES! so from there umm... i went and sat down until he went on he said he was going to do mostly new stuff and did (my favorite: 98 pounder :) very cool! but before he went on there was a camra guy there CNN so i asked him if he could dubb me a copy after the show he said "no" hey he only works for CNN he gets his pay check from Ted Turner well, he forgot abc :( so after that he jumped off stage and *again* everyone swarmed him so,first tom grabed a setlist from the stage then one for me!! Tom first got his "taking the world by donkey" insert out and about a minute or two later he turned to us and signed Tom's insert then it was eric's turn (picture) then I GOT MY "MOURNING WOOD" INSERT SIGNED YESSSSSS!!!!!!! then amy gave steve a picure he LOVED (i think that was the order, oh well :) then, everyone just mingled a little and about five minutes later he pushed through everyone going towards the stage again hummm... had/got his gutair i started towards the stage he bent down on the side of the stage and i sat on the edge of the stage and he started stumming the abc song he started singing along with myself and after an little bit i stood up on stage and started singing no, (yelling the song) and he just stood back and laughed at me b/c i knew every word. then, after we were done they say everyone in the room clapped i don't know i was in the abc and steve zone :) true! but before i hoped off the stage i got a second picture by Tom. then, i hoped off the stage and just was gioing to mingle around so i started walking forward i took three or four steps and (left to right) steve, a man, and a lady swarmed ME hehe :) but before anyone said anything (warning: launge, sorry) steve looked at me and said that kid/guy knew every f***ing word to that song. ok, then the man and lady(sorry i forget who they were :( asked ME! JOSH for my ADDRESS!!! b/c they what to send me (sp's)(songs that are not on his albums) YESSSS!!! then, earlier in the bar part there were posters with him featreing his "one left shoe" cd (comeing march 10th i am going to be the first PA person to get it:) so i asked him if i could take one and he said sure so i took one back and asked if he could sign it and in a heart beat he pulled out his marker and signed it so now i have two autographs AWSOME!!!( i was the first to get the poster b/c i remembered :) and the ONLY person basides steve and the band to even just be on stage) so, then it was almost over so he went for a beer :) and we all packed up everything and started out. then when we got to the door steve, john and james were together talking and i kinda butted in again and shoke all three of there hands an said good job! and last thing i said was next time your in the area IM THERE!!! so, thats about it. we left and walked amy home! :) - Josh thirza and abel you missed a GREAT show. if anyone has not seen Steve Poltz live yet please do its worth it! really. sorry for the loooooooooong JOSH story. hoped you enjoyed! if ya wanna know more instant message me at EDAJosh i hope ALL this gets through to the list? This thread regarding "How I Got Into Jewel" or whatever has been going on for some time now, & I think it's a good thread, so I guess I'll post mine :) It's actually very simple--it was her appearance on "The Late Late Show With Tom Snyder" one night last winter. I was channel-surfing late one night, not really looking for anything in particular, when I saw that she was going to be the next guest on that aforementioned program, which that night was being guest-hosted by Jon Stewart of MTV (et al.) fame. I knew who Jewel was, I liked the two songs of hers that got radio airplay, WWSYS and YWMFM, but I wasn't really "into" her or *a fan of hers* or an EDA or anything like that, but I decided to watch & listen anyhow... wasn't anything else on, didn't have anything better to do, etc. So Jewel comes on as the next guest. HELLO !!!! Whoa, who is this?!?!?! ?? Where did SHE come from?!?!? !! What?? Wait--I didn't think guests on these shows were supposed to act like this, answering questions and stunning their interviewers into smiling silences like this. What? Woe, alas, not on network TV you don't do that!!! Who is this person ???? Where did she learn all this stuff ???? It was both the *content* and the *manner* of her answers to the questions that she was being asked that made such an impression on me--I mean, like, people on these shows just don't answer questions like that or (for the most part) think along the lines that she seems to be thinking along. (I also got the feeling that Jon Stewart, the interviewer, was also impressed by/unprepared for/pleasantly surprised by Jewel & the way she conducted herself that interview). Not that there's anything wrong with that, I guess, but ...well, but...well, this doesn't seem to be the typical type of person who gets to be interviewed on these types of shows because they are rock stars. WHO IS SHE???? Well, I've answered at least some of those above questions that I'd asked myself that night when I saw her on that interview (like, "Where's she from?" "Where'd she learn all that stuff?" "What does she read?" etc.), beginning the very next day, when what had been planned to be a perfectly productive day of studying at the library turned out to be a completely ruined afternoon of Web-surfing centered around the topic of this "Jewel"person I'd seen on TV the night before & who'd so completely blown my mind. That's OK, had an awful lot of fun ruining that day :) Turned me into an EDA--joined this list that very day, too :) Saw Jewel in concert a few times since then. Some serious dangers of late-night channel-surfing here, huh--never know what you're going to find there, could actually find something that's worth getting into :) :) Adam's "Pieces Of Jewel" web site (http://jewel.zoonation.com) has a Jewel Performance Chronology, which lists that interview as occurring on Jan. 24, 1997, which makes this my First Anniversary as an EDA :) :) {I was saving this post for a couple of weeks now, hoping that this thread would continue as long as it has...especially since all of the posts that I had planned for the Pittsburgh Steelers' "absolutely-certain" appearance in pro football's Kilcherbowl tomorrow afternoon now wouldn't make a whole lot of sense:) } So, the moral of the story is: Never channel-surf on late-night TV unless you are prepared to get yourself heavily involved with a large group of angels :) :) :) :) Sincerely, Greg ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 1998 22:35:15 -0500 (EST) From: YOEST4244@duq3.cc.duq.edu Subject: Time of National Anthem @ Super Bowl Hey Angels !!!! Just as a brief reminder for those watching the Super Bowl tomorrow, even if it's only to hear Jewel sing the National Anthem :) -- The game is officially scheduled to start at 3:18pm local (Pacific) time (6:18 Eastern time) [yes, that's how precisely the National Football League likes to schedule things], which means that Jewel will probably be on sometime between 3:00pm-3:25pm Pacific time//6:00-6:25 Eastern time. I would guess that it's safe to use those parameters for VCR timing--or maybe add in 5 min. to both the start and the end times just to make sure :) Alan's (Mr. BB's) post from earlier this week mentioned that the arrangement calls for her to begin the song a capella, then be joined by several instruments as she progresses, building up to a great & grand finish. I very much am looking forward to hearing this! From a very big football fan who was actually going to make a serious effort to try to maybe get to the game had his favorite team scored four more points just two weeks ago, I believe that there's a definite chance that the game's greatest moment may come even before the kickoff :) National Anthem: probably between 3:00-3:25 Pacific time//6:00-6:25 Eastern time, NBC-TV Sincerely, Greg (go...Broncos) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 1998 21:59:08 EST From: MAXMOUZE Subject: Jewel compared to Renee and Joey Lauren Awhile ago someone asked what issue of "Enteratinment Weekly" had the Renee Zellwegger/Joey Lauren Adams/Jewel comparison. I was in Hollywood today and I got a whole bunch of "Entertainment Weekly"'s. One I put in my "reject pile", I decided to buy 'cause it said "MARIAH CAREY" on top and my friend loves Mariah Carey.
