[Scott Broughton Subject: New Jewel News moderator needed Hi Everyone, Well it seems that something called 'life' has finally caught up to Dave DiCicco and he has requested that someone take his place as a News Moderator. Dave has been one of the moderators since the inception of the Jewel-News list in September 96, and has done a great job. Hopefully Dave can hang around and still be a part of the lists. What does a news-moderator do? Well it's like this. Once every 4 weeks it's your turn to be the current moderator. You will receive all the email that has been sent to Jewel-News along with alot of list-administrative type email. You read the email that has been sent to Jewel-News and see if any of it is "News-Worthy". If so you forward that on to the Jewel-News list. You also read ALL of the mail that is posted to the regular Jewel list (either loose mail or digest) and see if anything needs to be forwarded to the News-List. Oh yeah, that administrative email thing I mentioned. You will receive all the "Bounced" mail that did not make it to it's original destination. This could happen for a variety of reasons. Someone closes their email account without unsubscribing, or their mailbox is full and no longer accepting new mail, or the real fun one - AOL decides that it doesn't want to cooperate at all and sends all kind of email back to you..... That's pretty much all I can think of right now as far as duties go. The only real requirements that I can think of, are: 1 - You need to have a stable email account - one that you have access to all year long. 2 - You need to have a big enough mailbox to hold all of your regular email plus all the extra Jewel-News email - which can be significant at times. It also might help if you had nice email program that can filter messages. It isn't necessary but it might help. I use Eudora lite 3.0x - which is free. If you are interested in becoming a moderator: Send an email to the address jewel-news-moderators@smoe.org and tell us why you want to be a moderator. please us the above address and not the regular jewel - list address. We will accept email until Jan 27, 1998 - approx. 1 week. Thanks - and a Big Thanks to Dave for all of his work over the past couple of years!! Hello all!... Earlier tonight I felt Java Joe's calling to me, "Come... Come..." Well, I was feeling a bit whimsical so I took a spontaneous trip to "Joe's" (as all of the "cool" San Diego local's call it... HA!) In any case, I am drawn into Java Joe's as if by way of some unknown force that seemed to radiate from beyond the slightly opened doors (I believe you human's call it HEAT!...) As I enter the coffeehouse I am encompassed by the sounds of Kelly Hoyer. I was impressed! Music poured from this girl's lips and fingers like a freshly shaken bottle of Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider on New Years! But, not only can Kelly sing, she can play a mean acoustic guitar... Her fingerstyle consistency was impressive for such a young guitarist. Needless to say I approached her after the show and was adamant in my praise. By luck (or fate?) I also caught Igor in the audience who was sitting next to Kelly's father. We chatted for a bit and Igor coaxed me to post this little ditty (which I believe I would have done anyhow) to turn all of you Angels out there on to another awesome, up-and-coming San Diego Songstress- Kelly Hoyer... Look out Jewel! Reporting live from Superbowl City!... I think that it is going to be pretty hard to get them. My roomies and I are going to NYC for a couple days over spring break and we were going to try and get on the show. They said to leave 8 to 10 months between the date you are requesting and when you are sending in the request. You may want to give it a try anyway because they also do standby tickets where you get there EARLY and stand in a line. They assign you numbers and then do a drawing. If your number gets called, you and one lucky other person get to go in! I was watching the Tonight Show last night and at the end, Jay said Jewel will be appearing in the next couple weeks. I was first thinking maybe it was a repeat, but the show last night was current, so I knew it had to be a new performance. I was at first doubting it because I hadn't heard anything on the list about it. Then this morning, I get Alan's letter. Yes, he sent it yesterday morning, but no EDA's got it until today. So I actually knew about it before the list did. How often does *that* happen? It's a first for me. That's cool she'll be doing new shows...I just wonder what she'll sing. She's out of singles now...although I don't think she ever sang Foolish Games on Jay's show, so maybe she'll do that one. And on Rosie's too. She's been on Dave's already, singing FG twice, once in a repeat this past Monday. Does anyone know when exactly she'll be singing this Sunday? I know it's pre-game, but isn't that from like 3-5 central time? I know kickoff is at 5:00 here. Or will it be closer to 5:00? I've never seen it in previous years, the pre-game, so I'm not sure. Also does anyone have any info on the previous treed Future Folklore tapes? I think there were two. I was just wondering what the track listings are and if someone would be willing to dub them for me. I missed out the first time around. E-mail me privately if you have copies. Thanks. They have been about list members possibly meeting up in New York City to try to get in via the standby line, or just meeting for the heck of it, and about methods of getting regular tickets. The truth of the matter is, Jewel will be on the first show Rosie is having on in her visit to Los Angeles (for two weeks starting Monday February 2nd). Also, according to the Rosie web site on the internet (not the AOL site), ticket requests for the Los Angeles shows had to be in by December 26th. So, it looks like the only way to get in to see the show is to show up very early at NBC Studios in Burbank California on Sunday February 1st (Jewel's appearance is being taped that day) and beg or bribe someone with tickets or be lucky in a stand-by line, if they have one out there.
