Ryan---- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 98 21:53:16 EST From: Jeffrey Kokosinski Subject: Jewel and Joni I agree, Jewel and Joni would be incredible, but nobody hold their breath. I was recently talking to a friend of mine, who keeps up with artists like Joni and what they are doing. Joni hasn't done a show or anything in quite some time, over a year if im not mistaken. Im getting this info second hand, so it could not be totally accurate. She recently found her daughter, who she never really knew, and has fallen out of the music scene. She even jilted the R&R Hall of Fame last year. JEFF ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 21:06:09 EST From: KNicky3116 Subject: Lilith Fair CDs/how I became a Jewel fan Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anybody has heard any new news on the status of the double Lilith Fair cd. Wasn't it supposed to be out already? Oh, and I think I should add how I came to love Jewel. A few years ago I never listened to music (stupid me), so I had no clue about any of the artists or their music. It wasn't until early last year when I became a Jewel fanatic. I absolutely loved You Were Meant For Me, and the only words I knew to it besides the chorus were, "picked up the paper it was more bad news". I bought the cd only knowing that song and Who Will Save Your Soul. Well, I actually didn't even buy it. My friend joined a cd club and let me have one of her free cd choices, so I chose Jewel. I listened to it a little, but didn't really pay attention to the lyrics for a while. I just kept on listening to it and I grew to love that voice and her messages more and more each day. Now it is my absolute favorite cd, just like it is for almost every other person on this list, and it's also my favorite music to sing to on my sister's karaoke machine. My parents are going crazy watching me make copies of the Angelfood I have too. I just wish I had listened to Jewel much earlier, but it's better late than never! I came up with an idea, and I need some input from you all... I was thinking that maybe we should have a Jewel Message board. I searched Inside The Web, the largest MB provider I know of, and it only came up with one Jewel board. Anyway, this could be an EDA/Jewel board. People that want to trade angelfood could go post what they have and what they want, and then everyone can reply. It might also be a good place just to meet other EDA's. I'll go set one up if you guys think it's a good idea, let me know :) Bradi ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 04:40:47 -0800 From: Jan Winters Subject: NJC: POETRY MAGAZINE hi everyone wow...that's all i can say. i never thought so many of you would respond! and i'm really glad. i want this to work. i heard that this happened sometime last year, i wasn't on the list then so i had no idea. apparently it didn't work out, someone warned me to about what i'm getting myself into. the last one was weekly, i'm planning this to be monthly, so that i get some time to work on it. also i would REALLY REALLY REALLY love donations from people. just afew $$$$ because stamps, and all of that begin to cost a lot of money after awhile. THIS WILL WORK THOUGH! the people who want to help me out with this please email me again and tell me exactly what you want to do to help. i think it would be easiest if i found one person who i could trust and who would work with me, so if you think you can find the time and you have the patience for something like this then please e me soon. another thing, someone mentioned copyrighting and all of that. i don't want to get into that at all, i'm trusting all of you to not put your name on others work. we are angels, lets prove it by not cheating someone out. what else? oh! please send me addresses and submissions NOW. i'm going to only pick a few submissions, i'm sorry but i know i can't pick all of them. i think i'm going to get my trusted sidekick (who ever that is) to help me pick them out so it's not based completey on my taste. the reason why i am doing this is since i know i can't put them all in, there would never be enough room (judging from the response). I REALLY WANT TO DO THIS, and i'm going to put my heart into it. i really hope all of you will help me out. thanks a million!!!!! kat imperfect angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 20:07:42 -0800 From: park.place@juno.com (Henry S Park) Subject: pedrini's (PoY piano book) To all that asked, here are the directions & phone # to Pedrini's: Pedrini Music 330 W. I thought that it would now be appropriate to share my own. To be honest: I wasn't too impressed with Jewel as a singer/songwriter upon first hearing WWSYS and YWMFM a few years ago. In turn I was a bit reluctant to even consider listening to POY when I came across the dusty CD late last year (an apparent casualty of my brother's often-changing musical tastes and collection). I was hooked after "Near You Always" (incidentally, the first time I had ever cried without being sad) and consequent to endless and repeated playings, I have gained a newfound appreciation of Jewel, her music and message. I've been arounds these parts for going on quite a long time. I know all the lingo and jargon, but I'm really very confused about something: What song is "You Were Meant For Me/Foolish Games" ??? Did Jewel somehow integrate these two songs into one? Is this some marketing genius from Atlantic to really stuff the chart ballot boxes? Am I seeing double? Have I been spaced all along and really been thinking that one song is two? Did I have too much MSG in my Chinese food tonight? =) Please help, I'm feeling discumbobulated. =) Crunch! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 02:53:54 EST From: Cressyda Subject: love at first sound For me, it was a ski trip. A friend of my brother's said "Hey pop in this tape". I had no idea how that tape would affect me. First there was "Who Will Save Your Soul" which sounded vaguely familiar to me. Then the lyrics to "Pieces of You" made me freeze. WOW. The rest of the bouncing conversation in the car faded away for me. I could not break away from the angelic voice that was singing such amazingly sincere and poetic lyrics through the speakers of my van. I tracked down the tape a few days later (I didn't even own a CD player yet). I saw her live with the Rugburns in a small San Diego theater called "Spreckels". Her quirky stories, awesome talent, and sincere spirit have held me breathless, and I have been a devoted and loyal fan ever since. I've seen her live twice since then, and each time was even more captivating than the last.(despite the fact that the venues and crowds got bigger). I eventually lost the cassette, replaced it with a CD, had to replace that CD when it got stuck in my player, and when I moved away to college, my Dad had to buy his own CD because he was hooked too. I didn't realize the resources of the internet for almost a year after that and did not find this list until last march or so. too bad, I would have moved heaven and earth to get myself to Jewelstock. But there is little to be done about that now. Now Jewel comforts me when I'm sad and celebrates with me when I'm happy. I'm always in the mood to listen to Jewel. =) Jessica the complicated angel (is that name already taken?) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 23:33:49 -0800 From: deanorez@juno.com (G D Perez) Subject: SJC: "Rumours Revisited"/Other Info ~"Rumours Revisited" (Lava/Atlantic) will be released on March 3rd. ~You can vote for the best artist/song of the 20th Century at: http://www.songofthecentury.com ~Also some notable Southern California dates are: 1/27 - STEVE POLTZ w/LISA SANDERS @ the Roxy (all ages) 1/31 - THE NEGRO PROBLEM w/GREGORY PAGE @ Java Joe's (9pm) 2/3 - WHISKEYTOWN w/MARY LOU LORD @ the Troubadour 2/4 - TARA MACLEAN @ Luna Park (21+) 2/5 - TARA MACLEAN @ Java Joe's (9pm) CINDY LEE BERRYHILL @ Genghis Cohen Cantina (all ages) 2/6 - MOONPOOLS & CATERPILLARS @ Moguls ($6) 2/20 - CINDY LEE BERRYHILL @ Genghis Cohen Cantina (all ages) There are other great shows happening but these are not to be missed. I am 23 and live in Canton, Ohio. I graduated last June from the University of Cincinnati with a major in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Mathematics (so I am not the guy to complain to about taking Math in school -- I think it is very important!) Currently I work at Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense Systems in Akron. Ok -- enough about me -- how did I "meet" Jewel?! My story is quite different than most of the others who have posted lately. Back in March 1996 I went to see Belly perform at The Edge in Palo Alto, California (near Stanford University.) I really love Belly's music and was sure to show up early to not miss any of their show. Well, as fate would have it Jewel opened for them. I arrived midway throgh her performance. To tell you the truth, I was pretty dissinterested until she sang "Morning Song." The only other song of the night from her that I remember was Jewel's last -- Chime Bells. "This is awesome" I though and promptly bought her album the next day. Not too long afterwards I joined this list. I've been on and off ever since (not because of content but rather due to my _dynamic_ life.) I really don't like to post too much -- lurking is much more confortable for me. So here is a hello to all of those EDA's who are "permanent" lurkers like myself! That's my short story. Thanks to all who have taken the time to read this. Any questions\comments are more than welcome. Bryon bcolley@ibm.net ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 19:45:58 -0700 From: "Rhino" Subject: Spread the word!! EDAs, Well, I was on Yahoo the other day, chatting away, and I mentioned Jewel. You wouldn't believe how many people said, "What's Jewel??". It was terrible. A few were like, "Yeah Jewel's good.
