I remember this like it were yesterday. I was in college a week away from coming home for my summer vacation. The MTV Movie Awards were on MTV(like Duh! :)), and I saw Jewel on. I heard that one girl(her name's not coming to mind at this moment :( ) say something about being a fan and how she always is approached for Jewel's autograph because she looks the same, and then she introduced her. At the time I didn't know who Jewel was except for(and don't crucify me until I'm done)...and in my own words at the time..."some dumb singer whose demonic singing had enraptured my sister". Well, to be perfectly honest, when I heard her sing Foolish Games the way she did, I was sunk. But I was too busy packing to go home, so I didn't pay any attention to it. I liked it, but didn't care that much. (Ok, that should be the end of anything one might consider heresy...not that Jewelism is a religion or anything :)) Well, When I got home, my friend Dennis(who everyone including himself calls Denny) was telling me about a singer named "Jewel". I told him that she had sung at the MTV Movie awards and he was wondering what song it was. I told him(truthfully of course) "I don't know, but I know the song had the word 'damn' in it and was really emotional."...He's telling me about it and then, by some dumb luck, I was at work and at the time when I kinda got bored, so I listened more closely to the radio in the background "I know you love me...and SOOooon you will see....you were meant for me...and I was meant for you"...I asked my sister about it, who knows like every singer from here to Vulcan forward and backwards and she told me. I called my friend Denny up and I'm like "I am addicted. I have GOT to get that CD. What's it called?" He told me and that weekend, I bought it(against my parent's wishes because they thought I should use the money for college). Who'd have thought that 4 months later, my mom would be addicted to FG, YWMFM, and Angel Standing By :) Well, a couple of weeks later(during the week of July 4th), I was surfing the web trying to find the official Jewel Webpage(if it existed at all...which does now fortunately) to put onto my new webpage(which will be up in a few days!!) and I found the EDA mailing list page. I told Denny about it and he thinks I'm obsessed, but the next day I subscribed, and waited a few days before posting. If I didn't, even though I read the netiquette guide, I was clueless when I saw words like YWMFM, FG, POY, Angelfood, etc. But fortunately, it doesn't take Rocket science to figure them out. Plus, I went back to Mike's page to look at it again. Ok, I'm finished with "The day the Angel who thinks too much became an Angel" :) I'm sorry for it being so long. Take care all of you!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jan 1998 03:05:52 -0800 From: Jan Winters Subject: The EDA list I completely agree....I haven't been on this list long but i think what it is lacking is the personal touch that it really should have. Just that feeling of a strong group of people who care about each other; something that is rare and beautiful. I don't know what we could do about it, make more close bonds; maybe if we all get to know each other, ( I mean KNOW each other) then it would be more personal....just a thought kat imperfect angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 21:16:16 EST From: DewdropGrl Subject: GRAMMY's I totally love Jewel and everything don't get me wrong, but I'm pretty much in favor of Sarah McLachlan. Because it's like Sarah has done so much and has worked so hard just to get recognized for a long time and now she finally is and I'm glad because she deserves to win. Not that Jewel hasn't worked hard but Sarah has been gone unnoticed for some time. *Dew* Introspective Angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 20:51:37 EST From: Benoit4 Subject: Jewel in new Rolling Stone In a message dated 98-01-08 18:39:49 EST, you write: << jewel@smoe.org >> Hey has anyone besides me seen in the new Rolling Stone magazine that jewel was voted by the readers as #1 in Sexiest Female Performer she also placed second in another catagory i cant remember wahat that was but Fiona Apple was #1 i Just thought that it was cool that she got Sexiest Female ferformer WHO NEEDS THE GRAMMY'S!? i hope she wins the catagory she was selected in for the grammy award she deserves it well thats al for now see ya later angels Jesse {\o/} /_\ the chivalrous angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jan 1998 18:52:22 -0800 From: Leah Selk Subject: NJC: Hello everyone! Lately several people have been emailing me asking if I am still offering Rare Angels 95. So, I decided I'd just post this, since I know there have been a lot of newbies since I last offered. If anybody would like a copy of this tape, email me and I'll send you instructions. I'm sorry to say I can't dub for anyone outside of the US, I know, that stinks, but this is the first time I've done this, and it's just too complicated. Eventually I will set a deadline for you all to send tapes to me, because I'd like to start doing another tape, but that won't be for awhile. To anyone who has already received instructions: Please don't forget to send me a return mailer! I need a padded envelope to send it back to you. Also, some of you have been sending me money instead of stamps. PLEASE don't do that! If you do, I have to go to the post office to mail your tape, and I don't have time to go that often. If you send me stamps, I can just put your tape in the mailbox and you'll get it within a week of when I receive your tape. This is pretty simple for you to do, and it saves me the hassle.
