But looking in my local record shops it was nowhere to be found, perhaps it'll appear next week. And on a related note I've found a couple of short UK reviews of Foolish Games: Music Week (December 27 1997) This 22-year-old Alaskan singer-songwriter has a voice that simply demands your attention and this song of emotional entanglement complements it wonderfully. A gem. Rating 3/5 Launchpad Channel 4 Teletext Page 483 Despite being mammoth in the States and having re-released Who Will Save Your Soul about 17 times in the last six months, this Alaskan female songwriter has yet to make it here. Despite being suitably sensitive and poetic, this is unlikely to change that scenario. If you haven't seen it, it's really great. And there's an extensive Jewel interview near the end. Also, I just saw the new magazine 'Teen People. There's a picture of Jewel at the Hard Rock in Barcelona, Spain. I'm on the lookout for Jewel articles and photos, if anyone sees them, please post! (I used to see more of this on the list but no one's been doing it lately...) There are other people out there as well who have contacted me about them, so you'll be helping out more than just me-- that ought to be enough incentive for anyone. ;) Well anyways, I've exceeded my posting limit for the year, so I'll make sure not to ask anymore if no one cares to. ;) Thanks a bunch... I have been noticing that the U.K has not been welcoming jewel too well and i think that a huge part of the reason is because of lack of publicity. Although i have looked, i have only seen her appear on one show (the national lottery), and i have only heard her on the radio once, in a brief snippet on a radio advert(!). I think it is our job to bring Jewel to the british public. Now is a ideal time to get a campaign going (what with the release foolish games). To start with a email to mark.radcliffe@bbc.co.uk or simon.mayo@bbc.co.uk (or both) would give the capaign a huge boost. I also think that a email to virgin radio would do a lot of good (sorry, i don't have the address) Also, it would get a lot better response if EVERYBODY did this. thx for listening MM p.s. Jewel was and is not mean, being in a bad mood is no crime (in the U.K anyway). ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 19:46:56 -0800 From: sp96@juno.com (Sarah Tong) Subject: Jewel in mag. and Dubbings Hey you guys, Jewel is the Best Female Singer (non local) in the 99X express's "The Best Of Whatever Awards" with Sarah McLachlan as honorable mention. When was she diagnosed with dyslexia? Was the Homer benefit before Jewel's first year at Interlochen? Does anyone have any Interlochen anecdotes? Anyone know about the piano bars she played at in Michigan? Also, what part of Hawaii did she live on and why did her folks divorce (is that why Atz was excommunicated from the Mormon Church?) Last night when I was getting ready to go to bed, I had an idea. I don't know if it has been done before but I thought besides T-Shirts and stuff why not have EDA bumper stickers so if we got together we'd know if someone was there- just by looking at their car. And how about just regular EDA stickers and Jewel Name stcikers just with Jewels name. The bumper stickers could have the angel with the guitar and say I'm an EDA and we could have some personalized with our angel names. And the regular stickers could be that way too. Maybe I'm just crazy and I don't even know how I came up with this but I thought it was a great idea- but I don't know how to get started or whatever. ok please E-Mail me privately if you could help or have any comments- wow!!!I never thought I could think. >From the "other" angel, *Natasha* ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #13 **************************
