It was complete chaos. Four of us went to Vegas with no tickets only hoping we'd manage to find some tickets at the Hard Rock or from somebody selling. We were disappointed to only get "Standing Room-Main floor"....really bummed but still jazzed to even get in. Within an hour of the show, the HR casino was getting packed and crazy.(NOTE- HRC makes their drinks very stiff!) Somewhat reinforcing my earlier thoughts that a partying New Years Eve crowd wouldn't be Jewel's best venue. I found that this was Jewel's thoughts too as one of the first things she said to the crowd was that she had been nervous and scared about doing this show. Her fears were justified. We were standing center, behind the last row, in front of the bar area. Actually, very decent proximity to the stage as the place only seats 1200 to 1500(?). Surprisingly, the "SRO" was not over packed as I'd worried it may. We could not hear Jewel. The crowd was VERY loud and rude. Being talkative initially, Jewel made a few early attempts to lower the "roar" but with no results, it seemed her heart was not in it probably couldn't wait for it to be over. She spoke very little for the rest of the show. She said something to the affect, " I know you guys didn't spend all that money to talk" Our hearts went out to Jewel. There was a group of 4-5 right behind us that just yelled their conversation the whole time, never even looking towards the stage. I wanted to tell everyone back there to shut up but felt like I'd be taking on too many and end up getting in a fight. We did ask the 4-5 to stop yelling so we could hear and almost resulted in a fight. My nerves were shot. I didn't see anyone mention that during "Foolish Games", her pianist was terrible and screwed up quite a bit. At one point, he began to play chorus at the wrong time. I think the only people who really enjoyed the show were the ones who were completely blasted and didn't care if they saw Jewel or not. I was kinda surprised she even did an encore. Cheers to Jewel for persevering! I look forward to seeing her again in a "regular" concert and with better seats. I did see her last May and it will be the most memorable show I've ever seen. She captivated and enchanted all. Anyway, I guess I'd rather see Jewel under these circumstances than not at all. It was sad though to think how she must have felt. Bye for now..... This is the first time I'm posting something since joining the list some time ago. Well, I have this one thing to say. I noticed that everyone's been going on about Jewel being mean. Let me remind all those who stake so that she's just another person. Just because she's such a well liked artiste who exudes such charming and gentle behaviour doesn't mean that she has to be on her best behaviour at all times. We all have our bad days and we can all be rude sometimes. Besides, Jewel never said she was such an angelic person. Its what the fans make it out to be. And when she doesn't satisfy her fan's expectations, people go, "oh, she's a mean girl!!" I think its unfair! Try being in her shoes, living her roller coaster life. You'd probably slit your own throat! On a different note, I'd like ask if anyone knows when in particular her next album is scheduled for? See y'all around! To tell you the truth , I wouldn't be surprised at such a behaviour at that time. I've read several times that she gave out good performance in UK even though she was extremely tired. Jewel might have had a bad day or something or you can say she hates the British which I doubt. Anyway you take it, know for a fact that Jewel is extremely nice to her fans, I've been there. And from what I've heard, she spends a lot of time with fans. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Jan 1998 18:10:26 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: Jewel's articles Carlos wrote: > {snip} But, the bad thing is that i don't have acess to any article > about Jewel. But I have to argue. There is still an extrordinary amount of good deeds done on the list. All someone has to do is ask a question and many strangers spend time to respond and help in any way possible. Many offers are made to share Angelfood with newbies. Often these offers come absolutly free... just from one person to another. There is a huge amount of trust on the list. I think that the threads over whether or not Jewel is mean or her height or eye color or any other thing is only natural. We have an extreme interest in her. Its natural that humans are curious and want to know everything about anything and have a reason for everything. We have a quest for knowledge. I agree that the EDAs have gotten very preoccupied with meaningless bickering. But with 1000s of people on the list, it's expected. I think that we tend to be selfish... but we have to focus on the good of the list or it will all fall to pieces. And I don't think anyone wants that. -Michelle > From: "Matt Adler" > Subject: Re: angels > That is a good question. I was purely disgusted with all the rudeness of the crowd also and felt very bad for Jewel. When I had heard she was going to be in LV on New years I was bummed that it had to be that night..since I live there in LV I know how it gets...so anyway I hope this doesn't keep her away from LV in the future. She sang with so much emotion espiecially on the song "Daddy" I was just mesmorized!! I too hope some day to meet her and get her autograph...well I think the rugburns were good too....does anyone know where I can get some of the Rugburns CDs?
