I went home this summer and nobody heard of Jewel, so I made everybody listen to her, and everybody loved her. Since then, her CD came out, but I'm not sure it's a big success, hopefully it will be soon. Anyway, I loved to know if there is any EDA in Indiana, if so, let's do something, email privately. (Hey Alan and Mike!) Just last night, I was in a local Barnes and Noble Bookstore, and while getting ready to check out, I noticed some books that were in the new release section, but were discounted some, so I figured I'd go take a look. One that caught my attention had a white cover, with a woman's face on it, no, not Jewel's. But it was very unusual looking. The name of the book is Making Faces. Anyway, after opening it, and skimming the book, I figured out its a book about different make-up applications, and contained many photos of various models, celebrities, etc. Each section tells step by step how to "match" the celebrities make-up style. All of the make-up is done by Kevin Aucoin, a famous (I suppose) make-up artist. Next to each picture, it says who it is, because believe me, some of these you wouldn't recognize seeing what Kevin's done with their make-up....it's amazing. So, I continued to glance through the book, still waiting in line, and I stumbled across another pic, VERY close-up pic of a womans face...it looked familiar, but not 100% recognizable right off. So I glanced at the bottom to see, and YES, JEWEL!!!! Talk about a shocker! She would have been the last person I would have thought I'd see in that book. I had never heard of this before...or of her ever doing any type of make-up thing for a book. Everyone, this is the BEST picture I believe I've ever seen of Jewel. In many ways. Ok, it's a facial shot, so I'll limit this to the best close-up facial pic I've ever seen of her...this beats the HITS cover, all of the promo pics, everything! You'd have to see it to believe it...even the pic Nedra said she loved so much...I think this tops it...really! Mike and Alan, you guys need to obtain a copy of this book, even if just for this one Jewel pic...it's worth the price alone! It's a 1997 book, so I don't know how long it's been out...but have either of you heard about this? I haven't. Ok, here's a description of the book itself...it's a hard back, very good quality, about 160 COLOR pages. The size of the book is 9X12, and most of the pics, including Jewels are the full 9x12 size. The paper is very nice quality...heavy stock...heavier than the Crazy Sex Cool book. This is a top quality book. There are no markings, graphics, or text of any form on Jewels pic...just her beautiful face. I read the article on the opposite page, and Kevin states that he only had 15 minutes to do her make-up because of her tight schedule. He goes on to compliment her great skin, and how that made it possible to do her make-up so quickly. The book retails for $29.95, but it was 30% off so I paid $20. A great price for this book in my opinion. There are many other famous people in it, including Tori Amos, Janet Jackson, Nicole Kidman, Winona Ryder, Ashley Judd, Julia Roberts. Elizabeth Hurley, Demi Moore, and many more! This book puts Crazy Sex Cool to shame...the make-up and photography is outstanding! I'm sort of an amatuer photographer, and have read alot about photography, and it doesn't say what kind of camera was used, but it had to be something very good...some of the close-ups are remarkable in detail...including Jewels! The picture of her literally jumps out at you...over and over again...larger than life! You'd just have to see it to really get what I'm talking about here. Jewel appears in the "Dramatic" section, she IS the dramatic section actually, and that's on pages 54-55. It also tells how to duplicate the make-up style she's wearing in the pic. Ironically, the model on the page before her, Jaime Rashon, looks remarkably like Jewel did in the Foolish Games video...I thought that was interesting. The make-up is similar to hers in the video. Here's all the vital info: Title: Making Faces Author: Kevin Aucoin Publisher: Little, Brown, and Co. (in Canada as well) ISBN# 0-316-28686-9 Copyright 1997 While the book is $20, I feel it's well worth the cost. If not for Jewel alone, then for all of the other outstanding pictures...you should see what Kevin did with Drew Barrymore, and Courtney Love...unrecognizable is all I can say to describe their pictures. I found myself looking under the pics alot just to see who I was looking at! Make-up does wonders. I don't want to mislead anyone though, Jewel's pic DOES look like her, it's just the closeness of the pic that might make one think it's not her...but it is! And she's more beautiful in it than I've ever seen her before! Yes, she looks good with little make-up, Kevin even mentions how Jewel is the type who doesn't wear much make-up, but this guy knows what he's doing obviously. And makes it work perfectly. Have I said enough? :) I realize that everyone can't go out and spend $20 on a book with only one Jewel picture, but IF you can, or if you can even just go to a book store and see this, you'll realize what I'm referring to here. Mike and Alan, if you haven't already seen this, then when you do, let me know what you guys think as well...I'm curious. *I* think it's her best close-up facial shot ever...plain and simple. It'll be tough to beat this one. I'd think only Kevin could top himself...I don't see anyone else doing that. So, add this to another book Jewel has appeared in now. And to think, I just saw this by pure accident...amazing. But it's in my collection now! I'd love to get her to sign the pic...that would be THE ONE for her to sign if I ever see her again. Happy Holidays!
