Where is Java Joes located in San Diego? Thanks, Steph...the celestial angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Dec 1997 20:17:31 EST From: MAXMOUZE Subject: SAN DIEGO GATHERING - 1/4/98 The first EDA gathering of 1998 will be taking place in San Diego, CA. (It is now untitled, but we'll think of a name later). We are aiming for the infamous Java Joes as a location, and the date will be January 4th, 1998. The gathering will be a place for EDAs to hang while they are in town because of the New Years Eve concert. But, entertainment will also be provided -- the first ever EDA music video to "Angel Needs A Ride" will be cast and filmed that day. Everybody attending can have a part in it, if they'd like (I will explain the plot of the video to those attending PRIVATELY). Later in the day will be the actual gathering at Java Joes, and after everybody has had a chance to get situated, there will be the first ever EDA concert. EDAs will sing covers of Jewel songs live. These songs will be used on the second EDA cover tape (which is in the works) OR on a new type of Angelfood which consists of live performances by the EDAs. This can happen if enough people record their performances and like it (If you would like to perform a song or two without being recorded, that is fine. We will have an open mic session). A lot of people are upset because they can't get to California and want a gathering in their area. Well, the cool thing is, this gives these people an opportunity to organize their own gathering. And, if you can, include an EDA concert in it and record selected songs. Then, they can be submitted for the cover tape (or, maybe a cover tape of live EDA performances). I am hoping someone in New York offers to arrange one, as a lot of people from that area have shown interest. We are also going to keep track of a carpool list. If you are coming from out of town and can take some other people in your car, tell us and we'll add you to the list. If you are an Angel who Needs A Ride, then we can note this too. And, if you are just attending, please give us your name as well. Also, if you are interested in performing either in the concert or the music video, please tell me this too. I need to get organized so I'm going to use the same format that the Las Vegas gathering people are using. I hope this isn't "plagerism"... If you're planning on attending, please E-MAIL me the following information... Your name When you're coming into town Where you're staying Do you need a ride? Can you give a ride? Thanks, and I hope some of you guys can make it. =) Mm__) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Dec 1997 17:09:16 PST From: "Kieran Kenan" Subject: concert vids Hello Everyday Angels, Is anyone out there willing to sell or trade Jewel concert videos or recordings of some lesser-known stuff? Hi EDAs, Don't worry I am not going to diss David Spade in this post, as I've read enough of it already, but I do want to comment on the latest argument surrounding whether to protect Jewel or not. First I agree that David Spade's comment was nothing more than a joke and I don't believe he has anything against Jewel, but since we are all fans of Jewel and admire her music as well as person(that's why we all subscribe to this list) it's good and natural that we become protective of her. Sure she is a ordinary person with extraordinary talent, blah blah, but being her fan is more than just listening to her music or there won't be EDAs. I don't want people in public to make fun of Jewel and next day there is silence in the list or people say "ha ha so funny I wish I thought of that joke." We should not diss other EDAs for saying things in defense of Jewel, but we shouldn't get carried away with it either. I think this type of argument is become repetitive, with one side strongly oppose the article/joke/comment that's rude toward Jewel and the other side trying to justify the whole thing. People should always have right to their opinion so each side should respect what the other side has to say and not belittle or put down those comments. Remember what Jewel said in her song "I am sensitive and I like to stay that way." Comments like that from David Spade may be just another joke to some people(and even make them laugh) but you never know how it would hurt the person the joke is directed at. Just something to keep in mind. Remember(from an EDA whose name I forgot) "Share publicly, flame privately." It must be that brain cramps really DO happen. I am sorry, but I must rescind my offer to give away 5 copies of "The Wizard Of Oz - Dreams Come True" (starring Jewel) for one simple reason. It's copyrighted. The ONLY reason I offered it was because the professionally made/"for sale" video is apparently out of print, and thus the Childrens' Defense Fund would not suffer/lose sales anyway....but for some reason the copyright infringement part escaped me. (FYI, proceeds from the sales of the CD and video went to this fund) Yeah, I know most of us tape copyrighted material for home enjoyment, but to offer copies of copyrighted material to *others*, even though it's only five copies, is wrong. It's no different than me telling you all to go ahead and go 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. Yeah, almost everyone does speed anyway, but it's still illegal, and cannot be condoned on this list. The same goes with *offering* copies of copyrighted material on the list. Someone may point out, "But people ASK for that stuff on the list all the time." Well, that's true, but I'm sure it's not illegal to ask in this case. (i.e I could get in trouble for offering to burn 10 CDs of Pieces Of You to sell at cost (or more), but I'm quite certain I could not get in trouble for *asking* someone if they had a home-made CD of it that they could sell to me at cost) Again, I am sorry, but I must rescind the offer. She then brought the Rugburns and played an extreemly awesome version, totally making up the words on the spot. They were amazing words! (all that i really remember was a line about "bleeding barstools") The next time i saw her, she played this song with her electric (looked like a Les Paul!) guitar. First of all, I'd like to say that I know I don't email you all that much(or at least I haven't been doing so recently). I've been busy with my job. I love it! I'm sorry about all the delayed responses and/or lack of email, and in the new year I hope that I can get better about that. Second, if some of you wish me to email more(or less if you prefer) to you, simply say the word, and you have my servitude. I know some people are bothered to see my name in the body of the email message, much less in the "From:" field. Finally, I'd like to ask that everybody enjoy themselves this holiday season. If you drink, as I'm sure some of you will, please do not drive. Be safe in all that you do. I'd like to be friends with all of you in 1998 and beyond. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
