Before this thing about David Spade's joke about Jewel gets way out of hand I'd just like to say that it was a JOKE he was kinda making fun of her but thats what they pay him for, to make fun of all the people up for awards... Johnson" Subject: In praise of Radio Angels '96 (and more) I just got a great tape in the mail today (thanx Tony) called Radio Angels '96. The reason that I'm writing to the list is because their is good portion of an interview (on WHFS, Baltimore) with Jewel about when she sang the National Anthem at an Orioles game, and since she is singing at the Super Bowl, I just thought it was cool. The whole interview is great, (I love listening to her stories, anecdotes, etc.) and there are great songs on the tape. There are the songs from "Phyllis Barnabee Finally Gets a Bra", the really cool duets that she does with Edwin McCain, and a whole bunch more. I'd be more than willing to make copies for anyone who wants one. For more info on this, or if you want any of my other tapes, check out my tape trading page at http://chips.luther.edu/johnsoja or email me at johnsoja@luther.edu (the setlist for Radio Angels won't be up until tonight, though, since I just got it). On a different, but similar topic: I have a technical taping question. I have a double deck that has a special Copy function for dubbing tapes, but when I copy, the source tape always gets done slightly before the target tape, leaving some blank space on the target tape. I know I don't have it set on high speed dubbing , but I don't know what to do about it. If anyone has any comments or suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season and a great day! A little while into the program Jewel's divine face popped onto the screen!! They showed clips from the WWSYS, YWMFM and FG videos, and then they showed a view live clips. They talked about the normal stuff, living in her van, waitressing in a coffee shop, etc.. And they showed some clips of interviews and talked about the Lilith Fair. Very nicely done.. Also, I was browsing around the Lilith Fair web site and I was shocked at the lack of Jewel content! I went to the LF in Phoenix, AZ, and believe you me, she was the main attraction! But I checked out the the page about that specific place and date, and they didn't have any photos or anything! I found a few interviews in .mov format, but they had very few things about her... I wonder why?? Bye now, Ryan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Dec 1997 18:19:16 -0500 From: "Han J. Ahn" Subject: Special Jewel Item? Hey guys: Does anyone know about the following item? Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Dec 97 19:02:12 -0400 From: Tony Potts Subject: Ticket Available for New Years Concert with Jewel! Hi all you Angels!! A couple weeks ago, I bought two tickets to the Jewel' New Years concert, I figured one of my friends would like to go. The first friend I offered it to already had plans. The second, who was far more deserving than the first, was, unfortunately, unable to make it either. So, I have an extra ticket, row K seat 32 (one of those $150 tickets). And I'd like someone to use it. So here's my offer: I joined this list to hopefully meet new friends with similar interests and a similar outlook on life. I've already made one good friend (you know who you are, *smiles and hugs*), and would like to make more. So if you want this ticket, it's free, but please read the following blurb on who I am, and only reply if you think you could stand being next to me during what I'm sure will be a very incredible concert. I'm a 26 year old guy here in Michigan. I design computer systems during the day to pay the bills, but my real love is photography (nature and fashion photography for the most part). I've owned my own clothing business, designing surf clothing for Great Lakes surfers. Yes, I surf the Great Lakes, I've been on eight foot waves in the middle of April when the water is 33 degrees. I drive around all year with the top off of my Jeep (for those of you not from the cold north, it's alread down to 25 around here!). I chase thunderstorms. I started skydiving this year, I'm definately addicted, and can't wait till it's warm again!! I'm one of a few people in the world certified to teach Adobe Photoshop. I think there's more to life than meets the eye, and can't stand being around people who don't. I hate violence and confrontation, but won't hesitate to defend my friends and family. I'm something of an environmentalist, not perfect, but I try. So I'll give the ticket to the first person who wants it and thinks they could stand me. I can't get you to Las Vegas or put you up in a hotel or anything like that, but the ticket's free. E-mail me privately, tony@freshdesign.com. C'mon....how can someone say that Jewel did/does not belabor to no end the fact that she once lived in a van and stole food and washed her hair in a public restroom. I mention these because they instantly come to mind...there are others. I can't remember an interview that I've watched on TV or listened to on the radio with her that the subject did not come up. Some may say that this is the press' fault for always alluding to it...but Jewel never shies away from telling the same story over and over and over again. At least tell a different van story sometimes! If Jewel was going to be on TV giving an interview, my old roommate and I would make mental lists of points we knew Jewel would bring up and check them off when they did. Needless to say, our lists were usually (always!) fully checked at the conclusion of the interview...it got to be almost a game with us....who could think of the most cliched Jewel stories. So I think David Spade's comments were right on the mark....I only question why someone else hadn't told the joke much earlier!
